THANK YOU!! M.O.P. and the Knights of Columbus wish a great big THANK YOU to all who donated to our recycle event this past Satur-day. The event was extremely successful! M.O.P. raised about $3500 on the rummage sale to help fund the Par-ish school’s technology fund. A super job by all! Thank you!!

PRAYING IN SONG By John Raymond (April 1998)

It has been said many mes, “In singing God’s praises, we pray doubly.” The human voice is the most perfect musical instrument. It requires nothing but one’s self to make a musical tone. No horns, no drums, no bells, etc., are needed. God surely knew what He was doing when He designed us. The breath that propels our voice comes from our lungs which surround our heart. It travels through our voice box—our vo-cals chords—that are located midway between our heart and brain, the sources of thought and emo on. When we are asked to sing at Mass or some other solemn occasion, do not hesitate. Whether we sound like “Caruso” or a crow, remember that we are giving back to Almighty God that which He has given us. How we sound is not so much for the ears of our neighbors as for the heavenly altar of God. Be neither ashamed nor haughty as you pray in song. God judges us not on what comes from our lips but from our hearts. When available, open a hymnal and read the words con-tained therein. They are poe c prayers o en expressing our deep-most hopes and desires, our admira on and adora on. Perfec on is rarely required save for those who are asked to lead the singing as Cantors or choir members. Even they must do so with humility and thanksgiving as it is stated in the fol-lowing prayer:

“Dear Jesus, thank you for endowing me with a pleas-ant voice and for calling me to use it in your liturgical rites. Let me never be puffed up by my singing in church but ever give the credit to your gi . Help me to lead the singing in such a way that others will be brought to fuller par cipa on in the celebra on of the Eucharist. Keep me aware that by helping celebrate your Paschal Mystery, I am helping to bring your redemp on to the world and the world to you.” Amen.

Tom’s teaching will open you to a clearer understanding of this Sacred Text. $15 per session or $60 for all six!

SAVE THE DATE! Minister’s Apprecia on Picnic:

Sunday, Sept. 7, 2014...details to come in upcoming summer bulle ns.

F T T ….

Last Friday Parishioners via the MOP (Maintain our Parish) Ministry began placing numerous treasures on the front lawn in an cipa on of Saturday’s Rummage Sale. Announcements were made via the Parish Bulle n along with signage in an effort to encourage all within the community to come, peruse and purchase items they might be missing at home or for someone else! On the same day the Knights of Columbus held their RECY-CLING event to help resolve your E-waste and SHREDDING problems to assist with elimina ng “clu er” within our house-holds. This too helped create a li le more traffic for the Rum-mage Sale. On behalf of OMMS we would like to extend our hear elt gra tude to all who helped, donated and/or pur-chased the treasures on the lawn as these proceeds will be added to the Technology Fund to help us hopefully reach be-yond our ini al goal of $16,000 for improvements/upgrades to our Technology Program for the students at OMMS! At this point with the proceeds from the Rummage Sale plus the generosity of individual dona ons we have received ap-proximately $5450, held in a Parish account for the school. WOW, that is truly incredible and it means that we are that much closer (minus $2550) to receiving the matching grant to move us considerably closer to our ini al goal!! As men oned in a previous bulle n if we reach $8000 then a truly generous, anonymous donor will match our $8000 bringing us to a total of $16,000; these funds will assist us in comple ng the Smart Board Technology project this summer to be u lized in the fall. As many realize, Technology changes rapidly and in order for our students to move forward in the 21st century we must con-

nually provide improvements and upgrades to our technology program and with your con nued generosity these funds will con nue to build assis ng current and future students! We are so very blessed with the on-going support from our Parish family, a family that values Catholic Educa on, just as we do at OMMS! Again we extend our gra tude and apprecia-

on to MOP, Knights of Columbus, and to our parish, for with-out your support these upgrades would not be possible.

With deep respect and gra tude, Wanda S. King ….your parish school Principal

—Fray Gilberto Cavazos-Glz, OFM, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
