A MESSAGE FROM THE CALL COMMITTEE
On Saturday, August 19th, the Rev. James M. Krach declined the call to be our permanent Pastor. He cited a few personal reasons but in the end God’s Holy Spirit knows the reason. The Call Committee will continue our efforts to be servants to the will of the Lord and trusting this process we are so humbled to be a part of. We continue to pray that we are inspired by the Holy Spirit to make good decisions, remain faithful servants, and provide the congregation with the answers to any questions you may have. There will be more to come very soon. God bless you all.
CALLING ALL BAKERS!
We're looking for items for the Crafters' Marketplace being held on September 30. Breads, cookies, brownies, jams and jellies, snack mixes, whatever your specialty, there's a place for you! It's also a great way to showcase a recipe you may have in our cookbook, which will also be on sale. Beginning September 10, there will be a sign-up sheet in the breezeway or contact Cindy Keyser or Lynne Steinbeck for more information.
The featured film will be “SING”
GETTING TO KNOW OUR TEACHERS! Hi! I am Gabrielle Liebertz and I am a VPK/Pre-K4 teacher at OSLS. This is the start of my twelfth year teaching here. I was born and raised in New York City and went to Redeemer Lutheran School in Glendale. My parents are from Germany and I was fortunate to have spent every summer from first grade until I graduated High School in Germany with my grandparents. I am fluent in German and love celebrating my heritage every chance I get. I met my husband, Wolfgang, in college and we have been married for 20 years. We have two daughters, Kyra and Riley, who are both graduates of OSLS. As a family, we love to go to concerts, attend sporting events and watch movies. I love to travel and have visited 43 countries. Next on my list is to visit all 50 states...I am half way there.

This year's CRAFTER'S MARKETPLACE is unique. Aside from crafter's there will be
community resources that will show and provide information about their services. This will include: Covenant Village, Life Net 4 Families, and Operation Christmas Child (Samaritan's Purse), Police and Fire Dept. and Mental Health Services. The Bible Brunch ladies will have their Mission Haiti Project for Goats that will, again, showcase those beautiful greeting cards, only this time, all Christmas cards (They will blow your Santa's Socks off)...and added to that they will have the miniature paper village houses. Remember your parent's or grandparent’s Christmas village under the tree? Well, we have replicated that. Each house is crafted differently, so you can build your collection to make a village. Each house also has a flameless battery operated candle inside. In addition to the Haiti Mission effort, you will have the opportunity to support our "own" (by adoption) Anna Moore (the daughter of Pastor and Lisa Moore) as she plans to enter the mission field of Wycliffe Bible Translators. She will be developing an alphabet and translation of one of the books of the Bible in the Solomon Islands. To help support her, the Women's Group has committed the proceeds from the "Hot off the Press OSL Cook Book". And, of course, we have a very unique collection of handcrafted items for sale from several vendors, some vendors returning and some new with very different craft items. Keep SEPTEMBER 30th open for a pleasant day of browsing, buying, lunching and....purchasing
those great homemade pastries from our bakery.
The labor to which we're called In words attributed to Mother Teresa, “Many people mistake our work for our vocation. Our vocation is the love of Jesus.” As we celebrate Labor Day, what does such a distinction mean? Vocation comes from Latin for “calling.” Christians understand vocation as that for which God created you, involving activities you do well, enjoy and feel good about doing, and that serve others. If you’re blessed to earn a paycheck doing something that fits those categories, then your profession or occupation — your work —likely is your vocation. Other people work a paying job because an opportunity presents itself and the income is needed, even if it isn’t their favorite thing to do. Perhaps they live out their truest vocation during non-employment hours: singing with a choir, raising children, building houses with Habitat for Humanity. Christians in any capacity, paid or not, can live out Jesus’ calling to love God and neighbor with our whole being (Luke 10:27). When God is “CEO” of our lives, it shows in how we treat our fellow laborers.
