Linux SDK for HPE NVDIMM (Persistent Memory) HPE Servers is enabling NVDIMM technology with the Linux Software Development Kit for NVDIMM. The objective of NVDIMM is to achieve memory performance with storage-like persistence. The SDK is a collection of kernel modules and OS components that can be installed over an existing OS installation enabling Type-N NVDIMM technology. With this SDK early adopters and application developers’ now have access to and can develop on NVDIMM technology. The SDK will be discontinued when NVDIMM-N support is available in the upstream Linux kernel. This SDK is NOT for production use and is offered on a limited support, “as-is” software basis. The Linux SDK for NVDIMM-N should only be used on HPE hardware with Non-Volatile Memory (NVDIMM-N) DIMMs installed. For more information on the HPE NVDIMM-N Beta program go here. Enterprise Group Frequently Asked Questions

HPE Servers I am trying to quote HP-UX licenses and perform a trade-in with the correct licenses, however it seems the skus for the trade-in are no longer available. Could you please provide me with the replacement skus? The Trade-in skus are obsolete for all HP-UX licenses and they have not been replaced, you must contact your HPE Account Manager to discuss the different possibilities for the new quote. Is it possible to upgrade from Essentials to Standard in Windows Server 2012 or Windows Server 2012 R2 without formatiing the server? Yes, it is possible. In any case Microsoft recommend to backup all the data prior the update. You can find the guidline for each version below: Transition from Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials to Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard Transition from Windows Server 2012 Essentials to Windows Server 2012 Standard Can RMRR (Reserved memory region reporting structure) be disabled in ProLiant Gen9 servers?

Yes, it can be disabled in the UEFI System. You can follow the instructions included in the HPE UEFI System Utilities User Guide for HPE ProLiant Gen9 Servers (Page 25).

Can Exchange Server 2016 be installed in a Windows Server Essentials or Foundation? According to the Exchange 2016 system requirements it is necessary to have a Stadard or Datacenter version of Windows Server 2012 or Windows Server 2012 R2.

Is it possible to order an HC250 platform without VMware or Windows Server licenses? It is only possible for customers with VMware ELA, vCloud Air Partner for VMware vSphere or Windows customers with a Microsoft Volume License Agreement. In both cases they could order without licenses and use the current ones in the HC platform. How can I connect physically to the KVM of a single Blade server without the use of the Onboard Administrator? Blade servers come with a SUV port. You can connect the SUV adapter with PN 676277-B21 and use the USB, Serial and video connectors that this connector provides. Is it possible to use SATADOM devices in HPE ProLiant servers? Currently this disk form factor is not supported by HPE ProLiant servers. HPE supports M.2 SSD drives that can be used for the same purpose, like booting device for example, in many HPE ProLaint Gen9 server. Can the new Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter with Re-assign (854550-071) be installed in non-HPE hardware?

No, although these licenses can be reassigned to anoher server if the customer needs it, the server must be a ProLiant server. Can I use Device and User Cals to access to the same server running Windows Server? Yes, Windows Device and User CALs can be use on the same server.

HPE Storage Is it possible to connect multiple arrays with the 3PAR StoreServ Management Console? Yes, the 3PAR SSMC 2.3 allows you to connect up to 32 3PAR arrays, all monitored storage arrays are available in a single pane of glass.

Is VMware Site Recovery Manager supported in 3PAR Synchronous Long Distance setup for 3PAR 8000 and 20000 series? 3PAR Remote Copy Synchronous Long Distance mode consists in 3 Sites setup where Site A and Site B will be replicating synchronously , Site A and Site C will be replicating in an Asynchronous Periodic mode and a 3rd Asynchronous Periodic standby link is configured between Site B and Site C . VMware SRM/SRA is supported in a 3PAR SLD Remote Copy environment with 3PAR 8000 and 20000 series, SRM/SRA is configured between HPE 3PAR StoreServ Storage systems A and C.

Regarding 3PAR File Persona features, how the capacity utilization Quotas are managed, are the users notified when the Quota is reached? There is no notification sent to the end user when the hard Quota limit is reached. 3PAR File Persona software allows administrators to set hard and soft capacity Quotas at File Store level to better manage the space utilization. The soft limit has a grace period during which it can be exceeded and users can continue writing. The hard limit is immediately enforced after being exceeded and once enforced writes are not allowed anymore, in such case an “Over threshold” 3PAR event is sent to the storage administrator which will inform the end users that the hard quota has been reached.

Do B-Series non-embedded switches require all “Port on Demand” licenses to run in Access Gateway mode? Prior to Fabric OS 7.3.0 version , the HPE 8/24 Base SAN Switch , HPE 8/40 Base SAN Switch , SN3000B 16Gb and HPE SN6000B 16Gb Fibre Channel switches required all POD licenses to run in Access Gateway mode . Starting from Fabric OS 7.3.0 versions and above, all POD licenses are not required to run those switch models in AG mode, however there are some considerations to take into account:

- By default, configured N_Ports will come up as disabled because a PoD license is not installed for those ports.

- All F_Ports mapped to the default N-Port will come up as disabled with the "N-Port Offline for F-Port" message displayed.

- You must manually configure N_Ports in the AG device using the portcfgnport command, and move the cable connections accordingly

- You can update the N_Port-to-F_Port mapping using the mapdel and mapadd commands - You must install all PoD licenses to downgrade from Fabric OS 7.3.0 to any previous release.

Can you tell me what versions of NFS and SMB protocols are supported by the StoreVirtual VSA software?

The StoreVirtual VSA is a software defined block storage appliance which supports iSCSI. File serving protocols such as SMB or NFS are supported through the addition of a NAS gateway to the VSA; HPE StoreEasy 3850 Gateway Storage for example. This product supports SMB (2.0, 2.1, 3.0 and 3.02) and NFS (v2, v3, v4.1). For more information please see Quickspecs.

We are looking to purchase a DC powered MSA2040 with an expansion enclosure that is also DC powered. What are the options? There is a DC powered MSA 2040 array head (SFF) and a DC powered expansion enclosure (also SFF). For specifications, PNs and other information please see Quickspecs (From page 5).

We would like to create a StoreVirtual VSA cluster with two servers. Will one 10TB license be sufficient here or do we need to purchase two? You will need two licenses. Each VSA requires its own license and each license will license a single instance of VSA software. In other words it is not possible to “split” a single 10TB license among multiple VSAs (servers).

Do you have any guide on installing new SSD as read cache in MSA 2040? For information about using SSDs with the MSA 2040 please see chapter Best practices for SSDs on p. 31 in the

HPE MSA 1040/2040 Best practices.

Additionally, to help you with installing SSDs to the MSA you might want to take advantage of our HPE Flash Advisor Program. This program is based on the collection of performance data from the MSA array (firmware GL210 or above), to be uploaded to HPE along with a ‘Log Traveler Sheet’ of information regarding what applications are being used etc., where both are analysed and suggestions returned. These suggestions will be whether or not the observed workloads will benefit from the addition of SSDs, and if so whether they would be best suited as Read Cache or as a Tier, and how many of what size drives would make the most sense. For more information about the program please talk to your HPE Account Manager.

If I have 21TB available with StoreVirtual VSA on three nodes (7TB per node) how much usable capacity will I see if I use Network RAID10 across three nodes? Network RAID 10 always keeps two copies of data across the cluster. That means that half of the overall usable capacity is available. With three 7TB nodes in a cluster in NR10 you can expect the usable capacity to be around 10.5TB. Please note that the resulting net capacity may vary since network RAID is applied on the volume level and each volume may use different network RAID levels. For more information please see the HP StoreVirtual Storage User Guide, chapter How data protection levels work from p. 158.

HPE Networking Can you clarify which 5700 models support both 650w and 300w PSU models? The 5700-40XG and 5700-48G supports both the 300W and 650W PSU, the 5700-XGT only supports the 650W PSU. Can you confirm if the 527 HPE Aruba AP can work as a sensor for WIPS, like the 425 AP can? The 527 AP has the capability to run as a sensor. We confirm the 527 AP supports the following WIPS/WIDS features: White lists / Static and dynamic blacklists / Rogue AP detection Please provide information about upgrading the Aruba 3810 switches. Specific: when connected in a stack how is the firmware process? Will the entire stack go down when upgrading or is it possible to upgrade switch by switch without breaking the configuration and getting issues like split brain? The process of loading a new software/firmware into a stack is similar to the process for a standalone switch. It does require a reboot of the entire stack. To load the new software: a. Load the new software onto the Commander via TFTP, USB, or Xmodem. b. Once the new software is loaded, establish a console session with the stack and enter the following command: Switch#: boot system This causes the entire stack to be rebooted. Each unit is booted from its image unless you specify otherwise with options to this command. Make sure that you boot from the image to which you downloaded c. Confirm that the new software has been loaded on each stack member More information at HPE ArubaOS-Switch Advanced Traffic Management Guide K/KA/KB.16.01 Can we setup sending syslog messages to an external syslog server on a HP SDN VAN Controller? This configuration is not supported. One customer will be able to export the Controller’s Audit logs using REST APIs while the Support logs are exported through the GUI.
