CHRISTMAS 2014

Our signage design and wayfinding consultancy projects have been

particularly noteable; including re-branding for ZSL at London and

Whipsnade zoos, continued work for Commonwealth Wargraves

Commission delivering signage solutions for their war cemeteries

worldwide and the ground-breaking interactive Heron Riverwalk

marketing suite in London.

We have also continued to work with clients to develop their branding;

marketing collateral for The Chelsea Pensioners, digital solutions for

the Accor Hotel Group, event design for BlackBerry, to name but a few.

Looking to 2015, we are excited about our expansion plans.

As a visual media design agency we continue to produce branding

solutions for signage, wayfinding, environment, exhibition & events,

digital and print. We will continue to evolve

as a company, aiming to use the latest

technological advancements, creative

trends and production techniques to

enable us to offer our clients the best

possible service.

2014 has certainly been a busy and productive year for Symbius. The company has continued to grow, taking on exciting work with new and existing clients.

A look back on 2014 and plans for 2015

#LestWeForgetTo help commemorate the centenary of the two World Wars, the Commonwealth War Graves

Commission has developed an exciting new app. It allows users to discover the 23,000

worldwide Commonwealth locations commemorating the fallen, in the two World Wars.

To promote the app the Commission asked Symbius to design an interactive exhibition stand.

The Symbius design team delivered a stand with four open sides to accommodate the different

promotional elements and deliver maximum visual impact from every angle.

The stand was further enhanced with four

totems housing iPads to allow the

Commission to maximise the app uptake. The

Symbius design team successfully gave the

Commission a visually stunning stand that

clearly defines what they do. The stand is

lightweight, simple to erect and is easily

transported meaning it can be used time

again, giving the Commission maximum

return on their investment.

WHAT’S YOUR FUNNIEST CHRISTMAS PRESENT EVER?We asked the team here at Symbius what was the funniest Christmas present they have received and compiled a list of the top four.

1. Waking up on Christmas morning and finding that you are still married!.... (to your ex wife!)

2. Two cardboard cylinders with string through the top purporting to be stilts. Would have been great if I was 5, unfortunately I was fifteen and looking forward to my first punk album!

3. Food Poisoning!

SYMBIUS DIRECTORS CELEBRATE TURKISH PROJECT WINWe are very excited to have recently won

a key project with the Turkish banking

giant, Ziraat Bank. Symbius will provide

wayfinding consultancy, signage design

and branding implementation for a new

multi-occupancy complex which has been

designed by a leading US architect.

SUPER-SIZED GRAPHIC FOR THE UNIVERSITY OF WEST LONDON The University of West London commissioned

Symbius to design and implement a huge

80 x 3 metre wall graphic for their student

services. The stunning graphic was used to

theme their student enrolment day, where an

impressive 20,000 students registered for

courses at the University campus. We cleverly

integrated the location of West London into the

design to carry the messages of the social and

financial needs of the students. Symbius also

spent time developing the branding to echo

the umbrella branding of the University. The

final solution, which included integrated

information screens and bespoke desktop

furniture, was incredibly well received.

I started in the signage industry in 1987 for the world’s largest system solution company operating as their first and only business asset trainee. I worked in Denmark and then in the UK taking up the role of Account Manager before I left in 1992.

I was approached and accepted the role of Sales Manager for a young and very aggressive northern manufacturing signage solution provider and quickly won the key accounts of BBC, BT, Norwich Union and Siemens. Winning these key accounts and acquiring other companies within the group were instrumental in building the business. I then went on to successfully run my own signage company for several years. My career highlights have been meeting the Queen on two occasions as well as working with the Ronson family and sharing a lunch with Ron Haslam at Goodwood.

Five years ago my brother approached me to become a business partner at Symbius and let’s just say ‘we have not looked back’.

DESTINATION REPORTS – 2014ROTTERDAM AND THE HAGUE During a recent trip to Holland I was able to see the appeal these city destinations have to offer for groups. Rotterdam is a vibrant, modern city, with contemporary architecture and striking skylines, whilst The Hague has a historical background amongst green and leafy boulevards.

Both of these cities are easily accessible with a short flying time of 45 minutes from London Heathrow to Amsterdam’s Schipol Airport.

I stayed at the Nhow Rotterdam, a new boutique hotel. This modern venue focuses on urban art and photography with great views over the city. Other good quality hotels include the World Bel Air Hotel, Hilton Rotterdam, and Hotel New York. The latter a very quirky venue offering something a little different.

The World Forum Convention Centre in The Hague and The World Trade Center in Rotterdam both offer great spaces for larger scale conferences. Holland also has many activities to offer, such as The Hague’s lovely sandy beach, fun-jet water boats for a high speed adrenalin rush, The Louwman Museum – Europe’s largest private car museum and The Mauritshuis Museum home to the famous painting of ‘The Girl with a Pearl Earring’ both offering private dining options. I would definitely recommend both cities as they may not always be ones that first come to mind.

CAPE SOUNIO - GREECE We recently had the pleasure of running a 4-day incentive trip to Cape Sounio for a group of 60 individuals. Sounio is located approximately 40 miles from Athens on the most southern tip of the Attica peninsula. With regular direct flights available from London Heathrow to Athens taking only 3 ½ hours and great all year round weather with highs of 35°C in the summer months, Cape Sounio makes for a fabulous incentive destination.

Our group stayed at the Cape Sounio, a Grecotel Exclusive Resort and from the minute they arrived, guests felt like they were in their own little paradise. The venue offers a unique location, facing the stunning temple of Poseidon on the edge of a nature reserve. As well as the beautiful spa, the venue has numerous leisure facilities available so our group could choose to do as much or as little as they wanted to!

Some of the activity highlights were a full day sailing regatta along the Athenian Rivera with beautiful swimming stops along the way, a tour of Athens city, a visit to the Acropolis and a trip to the Vouliagmeni Lake with its amazing healing powers.

Our last evening was a stunning gala dinner held at a private coastal house with fireworks and a live band, a superb finale to a fantastic incentive trip.

It has been another exciting year for us here at Lime Blue Solutions.

From the Top....We’ve organised and run some fantastic

events around the world in 2014 including

Monte Carlo, Istanbul, Cape Sounio,

Copenhagen, Durban and the Shangri La at

The Shard to name but a few. London and the

Home Counties are still popular choices for

our venue finding clients and we are

delighted to say that we have been awarded

some prestigious new contracts in this area of

our business.

When we are not busy running events, it’s

important for us to keep up to date on

what’s happening in other destinations, so

2014 has also seen at least one of the team

visiting Dubrovnik, Brussels, Rotterdam and

The Hague, Finland, Gibraltar and Cesme.

As always, we welcome many venues into our

offices to update us and we attend EIBTM,

IMEX, Confec Red, The Meetings Show and

Square Meal.

We are in our 11th year and early indications

show it will be a busy year ahead.

Ali Buchanan is now off to have baby number

2 and Jo Potkin will be returning shortly after

her maternity leave. Emily Smith also rejoins

the team early next year. Emily had her event

management placement with us in 2012 and

has since gained valuable event experience at

the Southampton and London boat shows.

From all of the team we thank you for your

support in 2014 and wish you a fantastic

year ahead.

CHARITY EVENTIn September, Nicola and Karen from Lime

Blue along with Clive from Symbius and

some friends and family completed the

50km Thames Path Challenge, from

Runnymede to Henley. It wasn’t easy, but

they had been preparing by cycling to work

and walking for miles at the weekends.

Whilst exhausting, the sense of

achievement was overwhelming and

between them they raised over £2500 for

their chosen charities which included Able

Child Africa, Parkinson Disease, Cancer

Research and Help for Heroes.

Richard from Symbius, incredibly did the full

100k challenge – maybe that’s something we

should think about for next year!

A unique take on leadership skills courses, run

by ex army officers and journalists. One of the

many sessions is called “Hostage”. Your

colleagues are in a room with a table and a

phone, the phone rings – let the drama unfold.
