History of Hip Hop

The music genre Hip Hop began in 1970s. This was originated in the underground and was first developed in New York City

This type of music was not listened to much at the start but increased popularity 10 years later and then in 2010 it was the most listened to genre of music in the world!

This type of music was considered to as rap music but involves more MCing, and DJing. These are a few of the elements in hip hop others involve: b-boying and visual art which is more physical.

Hip hop music is based on rhyming and wordplay with a beat to go with it.

Controversy is one of the many things that come with hip hop, this is mostly due to the lyrics from the artists an example of this is when N.W.A offended the FBI. The lyrics were:

"F--- tha police, coming straight from the underground/ A young n---a got it bad cause I'm brown," from N.W.A's "F--- Tha Police.

These lyrics suggested that the N.W.A group were offended by the police because they were getting racially attacked. Some of the members of the N.W.A group suggested that these lyrics came from a real life scenario and were just explaining what they saw.

Hip hop is one of the most listened to genres in the world. This is because people like the style of the music.

Also many Hip Hop artists have made the genre more popular by creating songs that have been listened to all over the world.

This is because these artists such as Kanye West and Jay-Z are known worldwide, not only for their music but their personnel life. This will increase more people to listen to their music because they are interested In them as a person.

Hip Hop music is very popular because of the difficulty of making popular songs. This is because it takes many skills to create a successful song like; making the beat rhythmic and flow with the song, also the lyrics need to be in context to the whole song and make sense.
