BOWEN THERAPYHow often do I need a treatment? This is a very common, yet relevant question and it depends on many factors.

Many of my clients make an appointment every month to six weeks to stay on top of an injury, for relaxation or to have a “tune up” so to speak. Others return once or twice a year.

For ongoing treatments everyone has different requirements and if you have a long standing issue then three or more appointments may be necessary to achieve the desired result.

Everyone has varying healing times and depending on the type of work you do, re-injuring the area can sometimes occur when we begin to feel better.

As we cannot always stop work for an indefinite time, it is important to manage and look after the injured area as much as humanly possible.

I have treated many sore backs, shoulders, necks, carpel tunnel and other pain and discomfort issues with excellent results where the client has had to return to work. Sometimes it may take a bit longer, but then in some instances results have been achieved with only two to three treatments. Everyone and every issue is unique.

As the old saying goes “If it feels good... do it.” Enjoy.

Welcome to this month's industry update. Who says that the Current Real Estate Market is slow! I am finding an enormous amount of buyer enquiry and another 2 Gordonvale properties have sold this week. We have just had Rick Carr, one of Cairns' leading Economists, speaking with our office today. The good news is that the market is slowly mending and we should see steady

improvement over the next 12 to 18 months.

Did you know that Tenancy Vacancy Rates are at 2%, causing the rental market to "Stress". With fewer properties available we are finding weekly rents are rising by $20 to $30 per week with tenants deciding to buy, creating even more rental shortages and buyer activity in the market.

If you are ready to move up, down, sideways or away from the Cairns Region, there has never been a better time to sell. Please don't hesitate to call me for further details and a confidential sale or rental appraisal. Robyn - For Results You Can Trust - 0488 071 007.

DRILLING TO COMMENCE

PYRAMID RACE DAY PROGRAM

Cairns Regional Council advises that investigative drilling works will commence along Moller Road, adjacent to Behana Creek, Aloomba on Monday, July 23.

The works will include drilling of several ground water monitoring bores that will measure ground water level fluctuations during the dry season and assist investigations into the feasibility of the Mulgrave River Aquifer as a supplementary drinking water supply for Cairns.

There will be no disruption to traffic, however there may be some low level noise while the drilling takes place between 7am and 6pm daily. The works are expected to be completed by August 10, weather permitting.

Council thanks residents for their patience and cooperation during these necessary investigative works.

TOTAL ECLIPSE IN GORDONVALEA total eclipse of the sun will occur over Gordonvale in the early morning of 14 November 2012. The eclipse will commence at 5.45am and the total eclipse will be at 6.38am and last for a period of 1 minute and 47 seconds. The last total solar eclipse in Cairns area was in 710 AD and the next one won’t be until April 25, 2237.

An eclipse of the Sun occurs when the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun and completely covers the Sun. This casts a shadow that moves across the Earth's surface in what is called the Path of Totality. You must be in the Path of Totality to see the total eclipse. The Cairns region is in the Path and is perfectly located to experience the full awe inspiring event.

At the time of the Total Eclipse, the sky will go very dark with a glowing light around the horizon, planets and bright stars will be visible and the Sun's spectacular outer atmosphere (the Corona) will appear. Scientists have warned never look directly at the Sun or you may cause serious and permanent damage to your eyesight. The Queensland Government has provided advice on safe methods to observe the eclipse.

A 140 kilometre wide shadow will be cast across the Cairns region, blanketing everything in darkness as the moon passes in front of the sun for a brief moment in time. The exact time of the start of the total eclipse will depend on where on the shadow path you are.

Councillor’s Corner

WHAT’S HAPPENING AROUND THE REGION

Welcome to August and the new layout of the Councillor Corner. I will try and keep folks of the Mulgrave updated with council news and in conjunction with Mark Edwards maintain updated information from the Hub.

As always, the latest information about the goings on in Gordonvale are posted on the website: http://www.focusongordonvale.com. This website is the best site for all community activities in the area. You can also subscribe to a weekly e-newsletter. I would encourage all to have a look and even send in your posts or updates if you are a community organisation trying to get your voice heard or event details known.

Now orientation is complete, my aim is to try and work out of the office attached to the Gordonvale library on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Often I will not be just sitting there as visits to folks places are often the best way to get a handle on issues, so I will be out and about. If you would like to catch up with me call on 0488 148 778 or you can leave a message with one of the crew in the library.

One recent activity held on 11 July was a Community Forum. I wanted people to have the opportunity to ask questions on wide topics in regard to Council operations. The obvious one was the Council decision to vote against the Woolworths development on the Highway. I was not trying to defend the decision so much as explaining the rationale behind it and I was glad for the opportunity. Since this meeting, a court date has been set for 28 November 12. Two days will be heard in Cairns and the rest of the court case will be held in Brisbane in the Planning and Environment Court.

Several topics were discussed at the forum including: Gordonvale an RV friendly town, Alley Park development, fixing up the Green Patch and the needs of Norman Park to name a few. You can see the full transcript of notes Mark Edwards took at: http://www.focusongordonvale.com.

One key question I wanted to ask was "What sort of town do we want Gordonvale to be?" A crafty town, a historic town, a tourist town? In the end those assembled came up with: "A friendly town that is suitable

for tourists, able to maintain its history." Well, that says to me people want to maintain the ability to be a "Country Town."

One of the key areas that people thought has been lacking of recent times from our country town is a little self pride. Pride in our community, our streets and our town centre. Certainly Council needs to do its bit but so do the traders in town and so do residents. For my part there, I will ensure Norman Park is mowed and cleaned before each market day and streets are swept every week as they are now.

The Mulgrave and District Chamber of Commerce have decided to host a Town Centre working bee on 5th of August from 9am. They are encouraging all landlords, business owners and members of our community to come along and help spruce up the town and inject a little enthusiasm. There will be lunch and drinks provided. Call the chamber Secretary for more info: Paul Campbell 0418 783 283 (and well done to Peter Dall’ alba for leading the charge and getting his Surveyors office repainted already).

A key outcome of the forum was the creation or re-creation of the Gordonvale Focus Group. It is to be a progress type group of citizens that will meet every 6 weeks and have council staff attend as well as myself - the Councillor, to be able to work with the community first hand. We all agreed many hands make light work and we will only take on projects one step at a time. It was decided to tackle Norman Park first. So we aim to prioritise a plan for Norman Park and will include the options for the water tower, footpaths all the way around, BBQs and the like.

Paul Gregory has told me an old plan can be found in council records so I will dig that up. We would love to hear from you or have your input so come along to the next Focus Group meeting on Saturday 18th of August at 9am at the Hub. Aim is for one hour only. If you cannot make it but have suggestions, please use: http://www.focusongordonvale.com to leave you comments or suggestions.

It is our town, lets take ownership and make it ours. -Steve Brain”
