In her heart, Julie McIntosh knew her baby boy had already died. She hadnt felt Xavier move all night and all morning.

In a panic, the Melton South mother raced to Bacchus Marsh and Melton Regional Hospital on a Saturday in March, 2010, where midwives attempted to nd a heartbeat using a monitor known as a Doppler.

ey couldnt nd a heartbeat, so they told me to wait until Monday morning and go to the ultrasound place in Melton because the hospital didnt have the equipment.

At a subsequent ultrasound, sta could not nd a heartbeat. Ms McIntosh was referred back to the hospital and was unsuccessfully induced several times over the next three days.

By the Wednesday, Ms McIntosh, who desperately wanted to have a caesarean, gave birth to Xavier. She cradled her long-awaited son, stillborn at 37 weeks.

When the grieving mother asked for an autopsy to determine the cause of his death, she says the midwives and nurses played on her emotions.

ey said hes deteriorated so quickly; we dont recommend it you dont know how theyre [the coroner] going to treat his organs; he looks so perfect, Ms McIntosh said.

ey were just messing with my head.Reluctantly, she chose not to go ahead

with an autopsy but, deep down, she always believed poor care from hospital

sta may have contributed to her sons death.

At the time of her pregnancy, Ms McIntosh weighed 103 kilograms and was on a controlled diet for gestational diabetes. However, Ms McIntosh said the hospital rarely monitored her insulin levels, she was seldom sent for extra ultrasounds, and she claims her concerns about her pregnancy were almost always dismissed.

At 36 weeks, when she called the hospital to say her insulin levels were higher than they had been during her pregnancy, she said midwives told her not to worry and wait for her next appointment.

She claims her concerns were brushed aside, time and again. But just a week aer that call to the hospital, Ms McIntosh was holding her dead baby son.

As a mother, you dont want to go through anything like that.

Now Im having another boy and my anxiety levels are so high, its scary. Am I going to come home with a child this time?

Ms McIntosh is one of a number of women who have approached law rm Maurice Blackburn for help aer revelations the deaths of up to seven babies born at the Bacchus Marsh hospital between 2013 and 2014 may have been avoided.

A spokesman for the hospital said they could not comment on individual cases or individual claims.

And he told them a primary school is not a battleground aer a Star Weekly report of tar Weekly report of tar Weeklyplans for an Islamic primary school at Victoria Universitys Melton campus drew an angry response.

Following the article, an online petition and a Facebook page opposing the school has attracted more than 1000 likes. Comments on social media urged the state government to stop facilitating the spread of Islam by

approving mosques, Islamic schools and Islamic centres all over our state, including Melton.

e Facebook page, which declares its allegiance to the United Patriots Front, a far-right-wing group opposing immigration, multiculturalism and Islam, called on readers to contact Mr Nardella to air their concerns.

e Facebook page was set up on October 12 because the administrator claimed to be scared of Muslim leaders being elected to Melton council and did not want Islam growing any further in our community.

Melton council has been lauded for its support for new business development in a growth area. At the recent Australian Property Institutes awards night, judges said they were impressed with the councils support for the Western Business Accelerator and Centre for Excellence (BACE) and the buildings six-star environmental rating.

Construction of the business incubator nished a year ago, and the centre is providing workplaces to support edgling businesses, promoting sustainability, providing training, and researching and developing ways to boost employment in Melton.

Mayor Sophie Ramsey said it was a great thrill to win the institutes Local Government Property award.

ere was a lot of competition for this award, with innovative projects from all over the state vying for the honour Cr Ramsey said.

e Western BACE, in Ferris Road, Melton South, has been open only a few months but has been successful beyond our wildest dreams as a business incubator. It has also set a benchmark for sustainable design and construction, Cr Ramsey said.

e federal government contributed $14.62 million towards the $21 million building, which formally opened in May.

Western BACE has won a number of awards since construction nished, the latest being a Keep Australia Beautiful Victorias sustainable cities award.

No jobs at least none residents are qualied to do and a dearth of training explains Meltons 7.6 per cent unemployment rate, peak body Leadwest claims.

While overall unemployment in the municipality seems less because of lower numbers in Caroline Springs (ve per cent) and Hillside (4.6), the rest of Melton is struggling.

At June 30 this year, unemployment at Melton itself was 12.2 per cent, 11.2 per cent at Melton South, 11 per cent at Rockbank, and 9.5 per cent at Melton West.

do not have. According to the data, Melton had the highest rates of unemployment aer Brimbank (9.9 per cent). Maribyrnong (7.3 per cent) and Wyndham (7 per cent) followed.

Mr Rowley said more jobs were urgently needed in the west, while access to workplaces in neighbouring regions needed to be improved and working-age people needed to be equipped with the skills to do those jobs.

Melbournes west has a growing and increasingly qualied workforce, he said.

But the current rate of population growth is outstripping the creation of local jobs.

We need the three tiers of government, the

Leadwest chief executive Craig Rowley said there were much higher rates of unemployment in particular hotspots because of housing aordability. Housing contributes to the clustering of unemployment rates as disadvantaged workers seek cheaper housing, he said. Data on tenure of housing and average weekly rent prices in Melbournes west suggests that the clustering of unemployed people is related to housing aordability.

Mr Rowley said there werent enough jobs being created in areas where there were unemployment clusters, while those jobs that are available require skills unemployed locals

regions businesses and the communities here all continuing to work together to facilitate investment in Melbournes west that will grow the number of local jobs for local people.

Mr Rowley said that while there was major investment in the region and new infrastructure projects under way, a greater variety of jobs needed to be created in the suburbs.

Mr Rowley said job creation in the west could grow the economy, relieve transport congestion and increase livability for everyone.

We need to encourage investment and showcase what Melbournes west has to oer to potential employers, he said.

Nineteen years ago, Jo Ballard was involved in a serious car accident at Bacchus Marshs Avenue of Honour. She broke her kneecaps and suered several other injuries.

For a long time aerwards, walking was painful for the Long Forest woman.

But now shes not only as t as ever, she and husband John have taken part in 10 RACV Great Victorian Bike Rides.

I needed rehab aer the accident, so I gradually began going to the local pool and gym, and to continue building my strength I started riding a bike locally, Ms Ballard says.

And when John encouraged her to do the 500-kilometre, 10-day cycling challenge in 2004, she says she was apprehensive and fearful at rst.

But since then she has embraced every opportunity to combine sightseeing with cycling and has ridden her bike through

Cambodia, France, Italy, Western Australia and Tasmania.

If I see an 84-year-old lady riding her bike up those hills, I think to myself, if she can do it, I can do it, Ms Ballard says.

While she still hesitates to ride her bike on busy roads, Ms Ballard says she enjoys riding through back roads and taking in all nature has to oer, especially the kangaroos.

In this years event, cyclists will ride 500 kilometres in pairs through Victorias historic Goldelds region from Saturday, November 28, to Sunday, December 6.

Meeting the same people every year is wonderful, Ms Ballard says. Its lovely to hear what theyve been doing for the past year.

One patient in three in Melton waits longer than the target of 15 minutes for an emergency ambulance, according to Ambulance Victorias annual report.

While responses to life-threatening situations in Melton improved 14 per cent in the past year, ambulances arrived in under 15 minutes only 67 per cent of the time.

e average time for 6700 calls was just under 14 minutes.

In nearby Brimbank, where paramedics responded to 10,700 emergency calls, 77 per cent were answered in under 15 minutes.

e state target is for 85 per cent of Code-1 emergencies to be responded to within the 15-minute mark.

Ambulance Victorias regional manager, Simon omson, said while paramedics were doing their utmost to provide excellent service amid growing demand, he acknowledged they were failing to meet their targets.

We acknowledge we can improve and are working closely with the government and paramedics through the ambulance performance and policy consultative committee to improve the services we provide to Victorians, Mr omson said.

Recent steps have been taken to improve the timely transfer of patients to emergency departments, including removal of the hospital bypass system, so paramedics and ambulances are more available.

Mr omson said that as part of some of

the changes to Ambulance Victoria, the role of the communications centre had been expanded to improve the distribution of ambulances across the system.

Earlier this year, the committee, headed by Health Minister Jill Hennessy, released an interim report, which noted the need for better integration of ambulance services and the broader health system, better support for paramedics at Ambulance Victoria and an improvement to ambulance call and despatch.

But a Melton paramedic, who asked to remain anonymous, said while much had been done to improve ambulance response times, resourcing remained a signicant issue in the triangle of death: Bacchus Marsh, Melton and Sunbury.

Its an expansive area and one thats still growing and were just trying to play catch-up, the paramedic said.

If one of those three areas are out of resources, then the next closest resource is at least 20 minutes away, even with a fast drive.

e paramedic said while he didnt want to discourage people from calling an ambulance, paramedics were sometimes tied up by patients who should have visited a GP.

Its not every day you get to shave your teachers bushy beard.

But Kurunjang Secondary College students have spent the past month gearing up for the big snip.

Last ursday, students shaved their teachers heads and beards in front of the entire school to raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation.

Event co-organiser Daniel Homburg said the Worlds Greatest Shave day was about raising awareness of leukaemia, as well as funds for the foundation. e impact of the disease was brought home to students with the diagnosis of a former student.

Kids dont realise anything about the disease until it hits home, Mr Homburg said.

So when they realised how important this cause was, it made them think about it more.

Mr Homburg said it was great to see the whole school come together for one of their peers and get behind the fundraiser.

And while it was the schools senior students who pushed for the event, the juniors were just as eager to volunteer their time and jump on board.

e school raised more than $3000.

Melton and Moorabool have been identied as among the highest-risk areas for grass and bushres. Emergency management commissioner Craig Lapsley said both shires had to be listed as shires of signicant re risk as soon as possible. Its time to act now, he said. Mr Lapsley said the real damage was caused when res started in, and spread to, areas close to homes and buildings. Melton and Moorabool are both very dry and have grass and forest, as well as lots of people, homes, major roads and highways, Mr Lapsley said.

His warnings follow an early start to the re season.

Earlier this month, emergency services across the state had to battle more than 100 blazes, which damaged countless properties.

A preliminary investigation by the Bushre and Natural Hazards Cooperative Research Centre pointed to an above-normal re season across most of Victoria.

Minimal rain, drying conditions in eastern-central Australia that aect north westerly air patterns, and rain that dampens but doesnt soak soil are some of the factors that indicated an earlier start to the season.

Mr Lapsley said that despite small pockets of rain, Victoria hadnt had soaking rain since last month and a Bureau of Meteorology forecast indicated below-average October rainfall.

Were already dry and its going to stay dry, Mr Lapsley said. e only thing they havent been able to predict is wind, and strong winds and dry conditions are the recipe for re.

Mr Lapsley said the fact the Melton

and Moorabool municipalities were predominantly open, at land with signicant forested areas made the area a lot more dangerous for both grass and bushres.

A lot of people dont see grassres as that dangerous, he said. But they can be extremely fast moving and will move up to peoples back fences really quickly.

e biggest dierence between grass and bushres is the intensity. With bushres there are higher ames, more heat, and they can spark embers.

But he urged people to be equally vigilant about grassres.

A grassre raged close to houses on the Calder Freeway at Taylors Lakes on Tuesday, October 6.

And the Metropolitan Fire Brigade issued a watch and act alert for a fast-moving grassre near Calder Park underdome.

Matthew Spiteri and Billy Metters are inspired and inspirational 16-year-olds.

For the past seven months, the Melton teenagers have been involved with the Western Bulldogs Whitten Project, which instills leadership skills in teenagers between 14 and 16.

And at their recent graduation ceremony, Billy received the projects peer-nominated You Inspire Me Award from the rest of the 44 participants.

I was kind of proud of myself because everything I put in during the seven months was recognised, Billy says.

Its not that I wanted to be recognised, but it was nice to be noticed for doing what youd been doing.

Billy says the Whitten Project has helped him network within his own and the Western Bulldogs communities.

Schoolmate Matthew Spiteri, who was a runner-up for the award, says he was amazed his peers had perceived him as inspirational.

Ive grown as a person because of the Whitten Project, Matthew says.

I have more condence to speak to people; Ive learned how to approach people and speak to them; and Im more professional when speaking to authority.

Matthew says he would denitely recommend the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for his peers.

Lawyers acting for the beleaguered Bacchus Marsh and Melton Regional Hospital have been asked to show compassion and fairness towards families harmed by alleged negligence.

Last Friday, state Health Minister Jill Hennessy said she had asked the states independent insurer, Victorian Managed Insurance Authority (VMIA), to behave as a model litigant and not engage in a David-and-Goliath legal battle.

Its very dicult, given the VMIA is an independent body, that we dont have direct legal powers, but weve certainly communicated our expectation that people are treated fairly and with compassion, Ms Hennessy said.

Earlier in the week, law rms Slater and Gordon and Maurice Blackburn, conrmed lawyers acting for the Bacchus Marsh hospital had contacted them oering to discuss patients complaints while under the hospitals management.

I have been practising in this area of law for over a decade and what we have seen with Bacchus Marsh is unprecedented and of great concern, said Maurice Blackburns principal lawyer Dimitra Dubrow.

Meanwhile, Slater and Gordon principal lawyer Anne Shortall said dozens of families had contacted them.

Cases will be lodged separately, but families could receive up to hundreds of thousands of dollars in compensation from the state government, she said.

Dozens of people have raised concerns with the Health Services Commissioner as investigations into infant deaths at the Bacchus Marsh and Melton Regional Hospital continue.

Commissioner Grant Davies is encouraging people to come forward with their complaints and concerns about obstetrics or midwifery services there over recent decades.

Dr Davies said many of those people who came forward in the past week had either decided not to complain at the time or were unaware of their rights to complain about the care they received.

Whats important for people to know at a time like this is that everyone has the right to raise concerns about their care and to have those concerns addressed, so that quality improvements can be made, he said.

is really underlines the importance of people having their voices heard in healthcare, especially when things go wrong.

Earlier this month Health Minister Jill Hennessy said a state government investigation had found the deaths of seven babies born at the hospital between 2013 and 2014 may have been prevented.

Dr Davies said his oce received very few complaints about the Bacchus Marsh hospital in 2013 and 2014, and none had raised concerns about infant mortality or about professional malpractice.

Dr Davies said it was important for people to air their grievances and feel heard.

When incidents like this occur and people are aected, they need to feel heard by the health services and feel heard by organisations like mine, he said. We oer alternative dispute resolution services.

    Tragic stories still untold

Bacchus Marsh and Melton Regional Hospital. (Paul Jeffers) Inset: Commissioner Davies. (Supplied)

We use mediation and conciliation to repair the relationship between the person and the service, so we can oer a range of outcomes such as apologies, explanations, compensation and sometimes a change, he said.

Its been such a long time for some people and causes such a deep hurt, so it may never be

resolved satisfactorily, but maybe we can help them ease the pain.

Anyone with concerns over the quality of obstetrics or midwifery care they have received at the Bacchus Marsh hospital should call the Health Services Commissioners oce on 1300 582 113.

Southern Cross Grammar School is celebrating aer successfully buying back its school and achieving 11th place nationally in a global maths competition.

On October 9, the school conrmed it had paid back its white knight, the Zig Inge Group, returning about $8 million to the saviour who bailed out the school when then-parent company Independent Colleges Australia went into voluntary administration in 2010.

While it took four long years to reclaim its sovereignty, principal Andrew Ponsford grandson of Australian Test cricketer Bill said the incredible bounce-back came down to two things: generosity of the Zig Inge Group and strong enrolments following the bailout.

Enrolments have risen rapidly in recent years, and there are waiting lists for places in prep to year 8. He said its the enrolments that have helped bankroll the building of a new junior school and sports eld.

With 386 current students and 465 conrmed for next year, Mr Ponsford said the school was hoping to break the 700-enrolment mark by the time its new $4 million senior campus opens in 2018.

We now have our students holding their own against the best from the best schools, he said.

e school is racking up the runs at year 7 level, with 13-year-old Liam Giacchi having been crowned the 2015 Perfect Maths champion, placing in the top two per cent of 20,000 global competitors in the Perfect Maths competition. e school had 40 students take part and nished second in the state and 11th in Australia among schools of similar size.

Year 7 student, Stephanie Merry, produced a chapter of author Allyse Nears new book, Fairytales for Wilde Girls, published in August.

Friends of Iramoos Helen Rzesniowiecki said the EPA needed to be proactive, not reactive, while Cairnlea Green founder Graeme Blore said there needed to be an EPA oce in the western suburbs.

We need a genuine 24/7 service, he said. It needs stronger research and development.

Highlighted as key issues by the groups were improving operating standards of Brooklyn industries, giving the EPA more teeth, more power, the heat build-up due to lack of tree canopies, and groundwater pollution.

Stop the Tip spokeswoman Mia Marevic said the EPAs lack of consultation on a tip extension at Ravenhall loomed large.

Landlls and communities dont mix, she said. ere is a lack of follow-up from the EPA about odour complaints.

e EPA also needs to build stronger relationships with schools. I feel they favour industry over the community.

With new suburbs like Rockbank and Plumpton popping up, we need adequate parklands. ere is a clear lack of parks and shade cover.

e inquirys chairwoman, Penny Armytage, welcomed the feedback.

e Australian Services Union has described the state governments Fair Go Rates bill as a dogs breakfast.

e union representing public servants has called on the Parliament to reject this idiotic policy, saying the bill leaves everybody with more questions than answers.

Among some of the changes proposed is the capping of rates at the consumer price index, giving the local government minister powers to suspend councils in instances of continued and deliberate non-compliance, and giving the Essential Services Commission (ESC) greater oversight of council spending.

Local Government Minister Natalie Hutchins said the move came as new data revealed Victorians had faced average rate increases of an unsustainable and unfair six per cent every year for the past decade.

Our Fair Go Rates cap wont cut existing budgets and it wont stop councils providing much-needed services and facilities, she said.

What it will deliver is greater value for money and councils that listen and respond to the needs of their community.

But union branch secretary Richard Duy said he was deeply concerned about the state governments new policy.

Frankly, its a dogs breakfast we wonder what the government will do to stop councils

Rates cap not the answer: union

from running down infrastructure, cutting services and slashing jobs, Mr Duy said.

A monitoring regime may detect these events aer they occur, but the Andrews government is silent about what it will do to ensure councils correct their ways.

Mr Duy said capping rates at the CPI was no dierent to cutting funds to health and education.

If the Labor Party believes funding cuts to

health and education are bad, then, equally, cuts to local government are also bad for similar reasons, he said.

In Melton, the average rate rise over the past decade was four per cent one of the lowest rate hikes in the state.

Melton chief executive Kel Tori says he believes the current bill provides greater exibility than the ESC recommended.

Council will have to deal with the challenges that rate capping presents, much as it has with all other requirements and regulations imposed on local government by other levels of government, Mr Tori said. I am condent that council will do so in a positive manner that minimises any impact on the community.

Discover a oating By Charlene Macaulay

Weve all had holidays where you spend so much time running around seeing the sights that you need another holiday when you get home.

Well, if you want to avoid that and youre looking for a holiday that combines overseas travel, fun and relaxation, try a cruise.

Ive been on three in the past four years so I can say with authority that cruising oers the best of both worlds and is great value for money.

But for those trying cruising for the rst time, selecting the right company is vital.

If youre young and like to party, a P&O cruise is for you.

Carnival Cruise Line is family-friendly, with many of its ships featuring water slides for little kids . . . and big kids.

Princess Cruises caters for a much older (think 60-plus) crowd. It can be lacking in nightlife but is great for on-board activities.

Another thing to consider is your cabin choice.

e cheapest fares can be found for interior cabins, which can accommodate between two and four people but have no natural light.

Ocean-view rooms include a window. e next step up is a balcony room, and for the ultimate in luxury, a mini-suite or suite is the way to go.

I recently tried a 12-night cruise around Fiji and New Caledonia on Dawn Princess, one of the eet of Princess ships.

It le from Sydneys White Bay and covered two New Caledonian ports, Noumea and Isle of Pines, and three Fijian stops: Dravuni Island, Port Denarau and Suva.

With 12 nights and ve ports, there are a lot of sea days, giving you plenty of time

to enjoy onboard life. e Dawn Princesshas a spa, gym, art gallery, sports court, duty-free boutiques, theatre, show lounge, outdoor screen for late-night movies, a casino, nightclub and bars galore.

My personal favourite was the Sanctuary, an adults-only area, and a small splash pool

    world of luxury

Cruising in the Pacic is a world of relaxing, excellent and sometimes exotic eating, and visiting some of the regions beautiful islands. (Charlene Macaulay)

where you are waited on hand and foot by the attentive crew.

Dining options are numerous from the buet-style Horizon Court to pizza restaurant La Scala Pizzeria, the balcony grill and the formal Florentine and Venetian dining rooms.

eres also an ice-cream bar, patisserie,

aernoon tea and 24-hour room service. One of the best parts of cruising? Everything

is done for you. A cabin steward is assigned to your room from your rst day and, apart from keeping your room clean and tidy, is always the best person to ask for advice or tips.

And every evening, your steward will leave

a copy of the following days events in your room.

Activities include everything from Zumba classes to bingo, trivia quizzes, dance classes, table tennis tournaments, martini demonstrations and a nightly array of shows, dances and comedians.

Or if you just want to relax, there are sun- lounges galore to pop your feet on.

On land, there is just as much (or little) to do.

Trying to do each port justice is hard, but here are my top tips for the islands: For snorkelling, you cant go past Dravuni Island. Its surrounded by the Great Astrolabe Reef, the worlds fourth-largest barrier reef and teeming with a vast array of brightly

coloured sh. Isle of Pines is also an excellent option for keen snorkellers. To walk off some of that excellent food, hike Dravuni Islands highest peak, where youll be rewarded with great views of the surrounding islands. Youll need sturdy shoes for this one; thongs wont cut it. Port Denarau is full or resorts, restaurants and shops. For something dierent, head to the Sleeping Giant mountain where, for $65 per person, you can try out ziplining. Try an off-shore excursion to really experience Suva and Noumea. You can cover most of both cities on foot in an hour, but re-walking, traditional villages and aquariums await those willing to travel farther out.

Between and among the culinary richesse of Watton Street at Werribee and Barkly Street at West Footscray, there are lots of Indian or curry restaurants hidden away in all sorts of places.

In the case of this Hoppers Crossing nd, its an oering ostensibly of Afghan food.

On a cold week night, Woodville Park shopping centre presents a rather bleak prospect, but the glowing lights draw us in.

e series of events that have brought us here post-school volleyball, guitar lesson, trac congestion nd us also with robust appetites, so were happy to be in a warm, cheap eatery.

Given the location and lack of research, its a throw of the dice, but we are not disappointed.

e place is done in typical, basic suburban ethnic, and were the only customers. But we are re-assured by the number of locals coming and going for takeaway there is something worthwhile going on here.

While we await our meal, we are greatly entertained, not only by the Bollywood music clips on the telly but even more by the cornball old-school adverts that accompany them.

e pricing on the menu is attractive and theres a range of the usual korma, koa, vindaloo, masala and other curry dishes.

But we choose the breads and kebab oerings.First, though, onion pakoras ($6) are rapidly

devoured, a well-fried treat. Potato bolani naan ($5) is fantastic and almost a meal in itself.

Garlic naan ($3) shows scant traces of garlic but is good, too.

    CONSIDER THE SAUCE

Instead of having to select from the kebab-tandoor line-up, we go straight for the Sizzler Special ($22).

e menu says it consists of kebab items numbers one through six and comes with salad and dips.

Were not sure about that and there are no dips. But were more than happy anyway.

Were not about to pretend this is the best or best-cooked meat of this kind weve had, but it does the job for us.

e minced-lamb sheesh kebabs have a bit of a bitter avour to them. e chunks of lamb kebab could be a bit more tender.

But the chicken tikka pieces and two chook parts of tandoori chicken are really good.

Were happy to have paid only $36 for a satisfying meal.

It was a visit to a small town in South Australia that inspired Performing Arts Headquarters directors JohnPaul and Mai Pyin to build further on the musical journey they have planned for their community.

Weve been running music, dance and drama classes for students from two to 102 but understood our next step was to provide access to the right musical equipment to help them on their way to further enjoyment, or even to head towards a career, Mai Pyin said.

On our trip, we were impressed by this seemingly small town where every shop, caf or boutique had a chic style including the music school and shop.

We knew this was what we wanted to give to our own Bacchus Marsh community, so we opened our music shop in the foyer of one of the towns landmark buildings, the Impresario Theatre.

The shop is chock full of musical treasures, from quality books to instruments and equipment.

Its the go-to place to nd a gift for a budding musician, something special for an enthusiast or professional-standard equipment for industry veterans.

JohnPaul and Mai Pyin are proud retailers for Yamaha Music Australia.

Our Yamaha Australia range includes upright pianos and pro drumkits, and were also the exclusive providers in western Victoria of Yamaha woodwind and brass instruments, JohnPaul says.

We are very excited to be given this privilege and to know our customers will access the best.

JohnPaul believes their music shop can only spur on the richness of the culture already found on their turf.

I also think that every family should have a piano in the corner or a guitar knocking about the house, he says.

Accolades for Ginger Club dont get much better than this Indian and West Indies cricket teams, during four international tours, have called owner Rajesh Wahi to request curry deliveries to the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Id head to the MCG, loaded up with curries, then hang out with the players in the dressing room and watch the match, Rajesh says. The Australian lacrosse team is another high-prole customer.

Now Ginger Club is proving it deserves serious foodie attention at Melton, having already won over The Age Good Food Guide(recommended as the best indian in Zone 2), which refers to Rajeshs dishes as some of the best Indian food in town.

A native of Delhi, Rajesh has already made an impression in his home country, the UK and New Zealand, along with eateries in Carlton and Fitzroy. Its this breadth of experience that gives him the edge, he says, in serving what diners want authentic, fresh, avour-laden food.

His clay tandoori oven from India pumps out some ne fare. Take, for example, his chicken malai tandoori, tender pieces in a cream cheese (malai) marinade and sauces, for $12.95. The tandoori prawns is another hit theyre marinated overnight in yoghurt, ginger, garlic and ground herbs, then smoked over charcoal.

The Ginger Clubs feast, $34.50 a person, is a great way to get a taste of India by sharing entree selections (think pakora, samosa), three different curries, daal, raita, rice and naan, along with a dessert, which could be a traditional celebratory gulab jamun (milk dumplings in rosewater syrup).

If a good hit of chilli is desired, try the prawn vindaloo ($16), a ery dish from Goa,

with freshly ground spices and potatoes. Another treat is the milder lamb palak ($15.90) in a thick spinach sauce blended with ginger and spices.

And theres a startling range of vegetarian dishes, breads (check out the pashawari naan, stuffed with dried fruits and nuts), rice and multiple side dishes.

Eynesbury may be one of the newest towns in Victoria, but within its grey box forest milieu can be found Eynesbury Homestead, a magnicent double-storey bluestone built in the 1870s in the Georgian style.

Today, its a restaurant, a community events hub, function venue, a weekend brekkie destination for locals and out-of-towners and is nished off with a renowned golf course.

Manager Frederic Blevin says this fantastic establishment plays an important role in town and further abroad.

We have the kind of place that people love to come to for a 9am to 11am weekend breakfast, lunch and dinner and bring their kids along, says Frederic.

They love running around in the beautiful gardens. We also have a beer garden, the spot to enjoy our Sunday sessions with pumping live music and a billiards room for the big kids, a fun gathering point in itself.

Our restaurant has plenty of options, from light snacks to substantial meals and, of course, sweet treats to go with our coffee label of choice, the grand Dukes.

But its not just our great restaurant that draws people here. Its the sense of neighbourliness thats enjoyed, our special nights: Tuesday curry and trivia, Wednesday steak and poker and Thursday parma.

High tea is also proving popular and what a perfect venue to indulge within, surrounded by history and in an atmosphere that speaks of a gracious past. And the same applies for holding a wedding or christening here, all catered for with personalised packages.

    A stunning setting combined with

dedicated staff on hand to assist with planning will ensure your special event is a lasting memory.

For something different there are monthly lantern ghost tours, beginning with dinner at 7.30pm followed by a lantern-lit tour through the homesteads nooks and crannies and along a terric walking trail which is also an interesting daylight journey.

Previously known as Melton X-ray, Lake Imaging has been providing radiology services to the community for more than 20 years, the longest serving provider in the region.

With a commitment to ensuring people in regional Victoria are not disadvantaged, from the beginning there has been a focus on providing the most professional services on the best equipment, including the installation of the rst CT scanner in the region, ensuring that patients no longer needed to travel to Melbourne for their imaging.

Since its introduction, this scanner has been replaced by several versions of constantly improving technology.

CT scans performed on equipment currently located at Lake Imaging take an average of 20 seconds per body region, and have a much lower radiation dose than previous generation scanners, which could take anywhere up to ve minutes for one area of the body.
