Bob Bromley passed in mid-August after having a stroke that led to other complications from a fall due to his stroke. I never had the pleasure of meeting Bob Bromley, but from interactions with his family and the many great stories I’ve heard about his contributions I can truly believe he was another hero of our sport.

Again like the Texters, Bob and his wife Jean started a motorcycle dealership in Trevose, PA, in the late 1950s. They carried brands like Royal Enfield, Benelli and Zundapp back in those days and eventually evolved to carry brands like Suzuki, KTM, Polaris and Victory motorcycles. The dealership celebrated its 50th Anniversary this past April, and Bob at 85 years was still active around the dealership.

Bob was born and raised in Trevose and was actually almost as old as the town itself. In talking with his son, Bill, he mentioned that when the historical committee there needed a question answered, they’d call on Bob because he was one of the oldest citizens in the community.

Bob was a dirt track racer and competed mostly on Indian motorcycles wearing # 20 A. He would race at the local Langhorne Speedway and would eventually introduce his three young sons to the sport of motorcycle racing. I couldn’t tell you how many national dirt track championships have come out of that crew, but I do know you’d probably need all of your friends’ fingers and toes to total

them up.

Bob was also one of the founding fathers of AMA District 6. The district was formed back in the late 1960s out of the Middle Atlantic Motorcycle Dealer Association, and Bob was the first vice president, of which he served a 10-year term. Bob’s son, Joe, is a past president of the district, has served on the AMA Board of Directors and currently holds the office of Director of Racing for the AMA.

Bob stayed active both at the dealership level and was involved in our sport throughout his lifetime. Again, we’ve experienced another huge loss for both the Bromley and our district family; commitment like this does not come along often. These two great men will be missed, and I would ask you all to please remember them fondly. Without their past contributions, things just wouldn’t be the same.

LOCAL RACING LEGENDS PASS IN 2010LOCAL RACING LEGENDS PASS IN 2010In Memory OfSadly in August of this year, our racing family lost two of its greatest supporters to the heavens above. If you are involved in any form of racing here, in either District 6 or 7, you’ll recognize both of the names. Matter of fact, if it wouldn’t be for the Bromley and Texter families, racing might not be the same here in our region.

In the late 1960s, both families helped form AMA District 6, and over the years both families have and still do dedicate themselves to the motorcycle industry and the sport of racing motorcycles. You’ll see these families working in their dealerships six days a week then spending most weekends of the year at a racetrack either local or national. You’ll find them working for the AMA or a district body, you’ll find them sanctioning races and building racetracks, and you’ll find them willing to help any racer at any time, whether it be a part you need or support to reach the next level.

In one case, we lost an elder, and in another we lost a second generation member, but in both we lost two of the most outstanding and dedicated individuals around. I’d like to offer both my thanks and my condolences to both of these fine families. I’d like to ask them to carry on the traditions of both Bob Bromley and Randy Texter and remind them that there is no better torch they could carry.

Randy passed in late August after a long battle with heart disease. Texter battled his illness as he did everything else in life, with intensity and passion and even up to the very end was certain he was going to win the race. Unfortunately for us, it was his time to move on, and he passed on his own terms surrounded by both friends and family.

Texter’s heritage dates back to the early 1950s when his parents opened a little Harley Davidson dealership in Willow Street, PA. Randy grew up around the shop and spent his years racing motorcycles both locally and nationally. He had many great accomplishments along the way, both in the flat track and road racing disciplines.

Randy started his career racing the Grand National circuit through the 1980s, with his best finish being in the top 10 at the Indy Mile in the mid ’80s. He then moved onto the road

race circuit, racing in the U.S. Twins Series and won the Twin Sports Title in 1990 aboard his H-D 883 at Daytona International Speedway in the fall of that year.

Texter continued racing into the late 1990s when he scaled back his efforts to run the family’s Harley Davidson dealership. Lancaster H-D has sponsored many greats over the years, including former Grand National Champion Chris Carr and Randy’s children and current AMA Grand National competitors Cory and Shayna Texter.

This is a great loss that both Randy’s family and our racing community have experienced. Please remember Randy with thanks and respect, as he was one of the all time greats. If God would build just 1 out of every 10 of us with Randy’s care and grace, the world would be a much better place.

Middleford Speedway in Seaford, DE, hosted its first Supercross on Saturday, Aug. 21st. Eighty-eight riders signed up to race under the lights. The track was shortened slightly to ensure that there was sufficient lighting. Right after the holeshot, the track had a hairpin turn that took riders toward the big double. A few riders seemed to forget about the turn and hit it with too much speed, causing some to overshoot it, but they quickly got back on track and into the action.The first class to take to the track was

the 85’s, with Tyler Kirshner #44 taking the win in both motos and Shane Desell #71 putting up a good battle for second. Race 2 brought out the largest class of the evening, with 17 riders starting in Open C. Cory Callaway #2 took the

first moto, but Andrew Leforte #0 took the second and the overall win with finishes of 3-1. Mark Mercer #221 finished 1-1 to win Open B, with Chuck Vane #89 finishing 2-2 to take second. Vane also went on to win both motos in the Collegeboy class, with TJ Irvin #52 taking second. Lawerence Mantua #5 ran

unopposed in Quad A, while Quad B and C combined to make one class, with Tanner Marvel #22 taking both motos and the win. The fifth race consisted of the 50 class with six riders. Jack Rogers #35 went 1-1 to take the win, with Dakota Robbins #525 finishing

second. Robbins also earned a second-place finish in the 65 class behind leader Dean Caudill #4, who finished first in both motos.J. Tyler Custer #2 went 1-1 to take the

win in Schoolboy, while Tyler Kirshner #44 and Garrett Reynolds #88 battled it out for second. Kirshner finished 3-2, while Reynolds finished 2-3, giving Kirshner the overall second-place win.Vet A, B and C combined to make

up the eighth race, with David Sites #34 taking both wins and Mike Farmer #17 finishing second. The ninth race

consisted of Quad Youth with six riders. CJ Haase #75 took the first moto but finished a

disappointing 6th in the second, giving Dillon Toomey #10 the overall win with finishes of 2-1 and Broden Carney #17 third with finishes of 3-2.Josh Willin #271 and Michael

Sweeney #129 battled it out in Open A, with Sweeney taking

the first moto, but Willin came back to take the second and the overall victory. Racing under the lights was a first-time adventure for many of the riders, and spectators lined the track cheering on their family and friends. Complete results follow. With afternoon thunderstorms in the forecast for the area, Distrct 7 riders hit the track at Middleford Speedway in Seaford, DE, to continue the race for the championship in the 2010 Gold Cup Series. One hundred seventy-five riders lined up for their turn at a round of practice before the main even started.

The first gate brought up the Quad 4-6 LTD class, with Jake Williams Smith #11 splitting wins with Kobe Vanfossen #60. Smith also split motos in the Quad 6-8 class with Owen Curtis #6, with Smith taking the overall win in both classes. Jack Rogers had a great day, winning all four of his motos, two each in 51 7-8 and 65 7-9, with Todd Crosby Stith #94 taking second in the 50 class and Ryan Ganoe #38 finishing second in the 65 class. Shane Desell #71, was not to be outdone and won all four of his motos, as did Keith Rose #86. Desell took all in Jr. Mini and 85 9-11, as Rose won all in 250B and Open B. Christian Pinto #274 went 3 for 4 in the largest class of the day with 16 riders by taking the first moto in 250 C, while Austin Puckett #121 bounced back from a 4th place in the first moto to win the second but still giving Pinto the overall win. Pinto also went on to win both motos in the Schoolboy class, with Cory Callaway #0 finishing second. Matthew Orr #138 went 3 for 4, taking both wins in 85 12- 15 and finishing 2-1 in Supermini for the win.

Riders winning both motos in one class are Broden Carney #17, Quad 6-11, and David Sites #34 in 30+B. Andrew Leforte #0 won both in Open C and also finished 3rd in 250C. Jesse Snyder #73 won both in 65 10-11 and finished 3rd in 85 9-11 and 3rd in Jr. Mini. Mike Farmer #17 took both in 50+, with Doug Wentzell #810 taking second. JT Elliot #152 once again swept the Quad A class, with Michael Iverson #184 finishing second. Jason Allport #424 won both in Quad 30+ over Shane

Foxwell #142, who finished second, and Dalton Brandt #610 ran unopposed in Quad 13-15 to take the trophy. Zachary Grunden #415 took Quad C, with Stephen Elburn #259 following in second. David Elburn #991 won both in Quad 40+, with Anthony Capuano #11 finishing second.

TJ Irvin #52 and Josh Willin #271 put on a great show battling it out in both 250A and Open A. Willin took first in both motos in the first round, but Irvin came back strong in the second set to take both wins. Dungey Sweeps and Clinches as Rattray Wins Southwick National MX

Rockstar Makita Suzuki’s Ryan Dungey won his ninth consecutive 450 MX National, clinched the 450 Class Championship and had some luck as he swept the overall in the sands of Southwick.

The championship was a great present for team manager Roger DeCoster’s 66th birthday. The 20-year-old Dungey became the first rider in AMA MX history to win both the Supercross and the premier Motocross titles in his rookie season on the big bikes.

Tyla Rattray snared his second 250 Class overall aboard his Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki with a pair of seconds.

Brett Metcalfe started strong on his Geico Powersports Honda in the first 450 moto

and set a blistering pace. Dungey charged to second with Tommy Hahn third on his Rockstar Energy Drink Canidae Suzuki.

Dungey began pushing Metcalfe at mid-moto, and the pair battled for several

laps. Metcalfe held Dungey at bay until the last lap, then his Honda ran out of gas not far from the finish line. Hahn was a distant second, with Jagermeister KTM’s Mike Alessi third.

Honda Red Bull Racing’s Kevin Windham nabbed the second 450 moto start, but was soon passed by Ben Townley on his Troy Lee Designs/Lucas Oil/Red Bull Honda and Dungey. Dungey closed on Townley after nine minutes of racing, grabbed the lead on the next lap and pulled away. Townley held second. Matt Goerke, last year’s Southwick winner, charged to third on his Motoconcepts Yamaha.

Dungey swept overall, as Alessi placed second with his 3-4 day, and Goerke grabbed third with 6-3 motos. The modest Dungey said, “It takes a lot of people to make this happen.”

New Jersey’s Bryan Wallace went 30-26 for 31st overall on his Mt. Holly Racing KTM; No Fear, Dragon and Pro Taper also sponsor Wallace.

Delaware’s Tyler Wozney; Pennsylvania’s Kyle

Sidle, Ronnie Stewart, Garret Toth and Richard White; and New Jersey’s Ryan Gainey and Anthony Roth entered and attempted to qualify.

A large crowd was at Southwick for a perfect day for motocross in New England; bright sunshine, blue skies, warm temps with a slight breeze.

Will Hahn holeshot the first 250 moto on his Troy Lee Designs/Lucas Oil/Honda, with Trey Canard second on his Geico P o w e r s p o r t s Honda. Hahn led past mid-moto until Canard got by in a sweeping bowl-shaped turn. Rattray raced to second and closed on Canard. Canard barely held off Rattray with Hahn third.

Justin Barcia absconded with the second 250 moto on his Geico Powersports Honda. Hahn held second with Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Christophe Pourcel third. A few laps later, Pourcel then Rattray passed Hahn. Then a few laps later, Rattray got by Pourcel, charged after, and closed on Barcia. Barcia held on to win over Rattray with Pourcel a distant third.

Rattray’s pair of seconds took the overall. Barcia snared second with this 4-1 day, Canard captured third by going 1-9.

Pennsylvania’s Darryn Durham went 32-39 for 38th overall on his Honda of Troy.

Maryland’s Tony Archer, Eric McKay, Thomas Mudgett Jr. and James Palmer; Pennsylvania’s Chris Lykens, Steve Roman and Richard White; and New Jersey’s Dakota Kessler, Frank Lettieri and Todd Stavac entered and attempted to qualify.

So we’ve been blessed with another sunny weekend, and what better place to be spending it than at Budds Creek Motocross Park for the MAMA Aug. 28th and 29th eleventh race of the season?!

Saturday’s spectators got to see the Women’s class: #293 Amanda Brown, #129 Chelsa Newbold, and ##125 Kara Groves finish in the number one, two and three spots in both motos and overall for the day.

Super Senior Open: #620 Kevin Mesiah grabs both first-place moto wins. #17x Mike Farmer is second in moto 1, third in moto 2, and captures second place overall. #84 Greg Voell finishes third in moto 1 but 4th behind Farmer in moto 2. He finishes third overall. #62 Todd Smith just misses third overall with 6-2 finishes.

Super Senior Support: #976 Bobby Wilson from Springville, TN, takes first in moto 1. #418 Rich Hutchins grabs first overall with 2-1 finishes. #529 Jonathan Kennedy with 3-2 wins takes second overall. #45 Roy Craig, with two solid fourth-place finishes, gets the third overall spot. #203 Mike Atkinson just missed third overall with 6-3 finishes.

Senior Open: Just as he did in the Super Senior Support class, it’s #976 Bobby Wilson that comes across the finish first in moto 1. #25 Brian Bouma, 2-1 finishes, grabs first overall. #378 Nathan Juergens, 3-2 finishes, takes second overall. #464 Joe Caruso II, two solid fourths, and he’s the third-place overall winner.

Senior Support: A solid day of racing for #761 Wayne Hall III, who goes 1-1. #75 John Chambers was riding strong and set himself up for two second-place wins. Moto 1’s third-place winner is #52 Thomas Postles, but it’s the 4-3 wins for #916 Johnnie Parker that awards him the third overall spot.

Collegeboy 14-24: Moto 2 is a replay of Moto 1, as the top five winners stay identical, in order: #343x Stephen Stella, #454 Randall Everett, #177 Joshua Stein, #34 Nicholas Lane and #125 Michael Groves.

OK, up bright and early Sunday; it’s a beautiful day. I hear the four strokes getting ready! Off to the races, as the 250 A & B classes start the day!

250 A class: 9 racers, racing for the $. It’s the strong performance of Tony Archer #285, with two first-place finishes, that welcomes him to first overall. #343x Stephen Stella, 2-2, wins second overall. #128 Tyler Webber was third in moto 1, but #398 Robert Kraft and his 4-3 wins is awarded third overall.

250 B class: 23 at the gate. #58 David Bonant, first in moto 1, third in moto 2. #2, J Custer, second in moto 1, improves to first in moto 2 and grabs the overall #1 spot for the day. #80 Cole Robbins finishes third in moto 1, but it’s the 4-2 wins of #14 Anthony Smith Jr. that grab third overall.

250 C class: #313 Ronald Perry, the proud

taker of first in moto 1, unfortunately finishes 7th in moto 2 and just misses a spot on the podium. #525 Chris Hayes comes across the finish second in moto 1 and 6th in moto 2 and proves good enough to grab third overall for the day. #21x Kenny Hadry, 3-2 finishes, grabs second overall. Moto 2’s winner #946 Nicholas Mayberry, 4-1 finishes, is your #1 overall winner. CJ Garrett finishes third in moto 2, but his 6-3 wins were just not enough to win him a podium spot today.

250 C DIV II: #274 Cristhian Pinto, going 1-1, just loves that top podium spot! #241 Ryan White, going 2-3 for the day, is third overall. The #529 of Gregory Hoffman, 3-2 for the day, gets second overall.

250 D class: #927 Kyle McNab is first in moto 1. #529 Tyler Cricchi goes 2-2 for the overall win. Justin Bennett #29, 4-1 wins, grabs the #2 podium spot. #916 Tyler Smith finishes 3-5, third overall. #12 Shane McKeown is third in moto 2.

Mini women Open 7-15: The consistency of #31 E Wernig, nice to see. Her 1-1 wins earn her the top podium spot. #44 Brooke Steinberg, with two strong second-place finishes, gets second overall. #24 Haleigh Jowett is third in moto 1. #817 Diamond Bailey grabs the third overall with 4-3 wins.

Mini Women Support 7-15: Two first-place finishes for #360 Kaitlyn Kaczka, and she’s your #1 overall winner. Anna Sheubrooks #101 finished second in moto 1, third in moto 2 and third overall. #962 Nicole Garrison was second overall with 3-2 finishes.

Open A class: Tony Archer #285, unbeatable this weekend,

grabs both first-place moto wins and another overall for the day. #343 Stephen Stella, no stranger

second in moto 1, fourth in moto 2 and second overall. #14 Anthony Smith Jr. finishes third in moto 1. William Knott #132 finishes third in

moto 2, but his 9-3 finishes were not good enough to make the podium today. It’s the 4-6 wins of #101 Brian Funkhouser that grab the third-place

overall.Open C: All the way from Lodi, Ohio, it’s Mario

Testa #27 going 1-1. Ryan White #241 grabs both second-place finishes. #88 Garrett Reynolds wins third in moto 1, and #529 Gregory Hoffman gets third in moto 2. It’s the 4-4 finishes of #61 Anthony Hall Jr. that award him third overall.

Open C Div II: The solid riding of #946 Nicholas Mayberry gets him two first-place finishes and the overall. #996 Robert McFarland finishes second in moto 1 and his 2-4 wins mean he finishes third overall behind #99 Brett Tomich, going 3-2, sitting in the #2 podium spot. #199 Deric Stubbs comes across the finish line third in moto 2, just missing the podium with 5-3 wins.

Schoolboy 12-16: No one has more first-place wins today than #274 Cristhian Pinto. He grabs first overall by finishing first in moto 1 and 3rd in moto 2. Alexander Frye #28 is second overall with 4-1 wins. #286 Austin Toskov took third on

the podium with 5-2 wins. Unfortunately for #31 Charles Wernig, finishing third in moto 1 and fourth in moto 2 was not enough to take an overall position. #244 Tyler Kirschner took second place in moto 1, DNF in moto 2.

Moto 2 saw #58 Justin Rodbell take the win, going 2-1 for the day and winning first overall. #449 Kyle Henderson grabs second in moto 2 and with 4-2 wins for the day earns third overall. George Frye #99, third in moto 2, going 1-3 for the day, is second overall.

80 C 9-11: Two first-place finishes by #38 Ryan Ganoe, and he’s your first-place overall winner. Second overall went to #826 Christopher Doering, going 2-3 for the day. Two fourth-place finishes earn #17 Connor Neumer third overall. Erich Friedrich #07 grabs third place in moto 1.

60 B class: Two first-place wins by #100 Jarrett Frye and the overall win! #314 Tyler Stepek grabs second in moto 1, DNF moto 2 and leaves the door open for #125 Cody Groves to grab second in moto 2, going 4-2 for the day and taking the #2 overall position. Moto 1’s third-place winner, #6 Michael Lacore Jr., just missing the podium, goes 3-7 for the day. It was moto 2’s third-place winner, #271 Martin Mundo, going 5-3 for the day, who was awarded the third overall position.

60 C class: For the second time today, #38x Ryan Ganoe goes 1-1 and wins the overall. Two second-place wins by #7 Dillion Curry, and

he sits in the #2 overall position. #121 Kyle McAllister finishes third in moto 1, is edged out in moto 2 and finished fourth, giving the third overall position to #50 Bradley Harding. Bradley went 4-3 for the day.

60 C Div II: #94 Todd Stith rides to two first-place wins and the overall. Benjamin Carroll #568 gets two second-place finishes and second overall. Moto 1’s third-place winner was #82 Chris Calvy, 3-7 for the day. It’s moto 2’s third-place winner, #62 Colin Walker, grabbing third overall with 6-3 wins.

50 A class: Both motos a mirror of each other, with all four riders finishing identically each time. #13 Gavin Blue, first; #605 Charles Canter Jr., second; #172 Hogan Cassell, third; and #29 Seth Walker, fourth.

50 B class: Two top place finishes again for #94 Todd Stith, and he earns his second first-place overall of the day. #135 Gage Beatty comes across the finish second in moto 1, third in moto 2, and gets second overall. #48x Logan Miller finishes third in moto 1 but fifth in moto 2, just missing the #3 podium spot; he gives third overall up to #14 Jake Boteler, who goes 6-2 for the day.

Baldwin, Maryland’s Joey Alexander took a pair of wins as the Baltimore County Trail Riders hosted a doubleheader weekend at the Mason Dixon Fairgrounds. The name is very appropriate; as you leave the facility, turn right and you see a “Welcome to Maryland” sign; turn left and you see a “Welcome to Pennsylvania” sign. Alexander topped the 250 B and Adult 150 and led the 250 Sportsman into turn three only to over-cook it and drop to fourth.

As has been the case all year at these small, created ovals, the leader of the 250 class out of two is usually the winner, with several riders evenly matched. Alexander and Colton Smith ran side by side for the first two laps, with Alexander on the inside. By the end of two, Alexander had taken the lead with Matt Langrehr, Samantha Bergman and Brian Nuse fighting for third. Alexander put some distance on the others, while Smith, Langrehr, and Bergman fought closely for second.

The Adult 150 were different machines, but a lot of the same riders. This time Alexander started pulling away from Langrehr, Bergman and Joe Dragunas. Bergman and Dragunas got by Langrehr off two on the third lap, while Jason Cole did a good job of coming from the penalty line to take fourth at the start of the sixth lap.

Alexander led the 250 Sportsman into three but slid wide, giving Smith, Bergman and Langrehr another position. Smith put a little distance on the others, while Alexander took third off four on the fourth lap and tried to get under Bergman in two on the seventh lap, but he was too low and got caught in the dirt berm on the inside and fell.

After falling in the heat, 125 dominator Smith had to start from the penalty line. Not a problem, as he was in second behind Jason Cole, with Dragunas, Jeff Standiford and Sean Simmons following. Cole and Smith put some distance on a lonely third-place rider, Dragunas. Smith kept trying, but had trouble on the slick spots on the track, only to drift further back.

Anthony Crabbe took his first win of the season in the Open B. He went to the front off two from Kevin Bills, Greg Lerch, Albert Cook and Jason

Cunningham bringing up the rear. Crabbe and Bills put some space on the Lerch/

Cook battle for third. Throughout the ten laps, Crabbe rode perfectly and made his

wide body wider, leaving no opening for Bills. On the ninth lap, Cook saw a slight opening into three and executed a bump and run on Lerch to take third.

Brandon Price scored a pair of wins. In the 65 he was a full straightaway in front of the Chris Thomas/Nathan Reichert battle for second that went to Reichert late.

In the 85 (7-11), he and Cameron Smith pulled away in a tight battle for the lead over Ken Kolsovsky. Chase Smith and Reichert. Reichert slipped under Chase for fourth into three on the fourth lap.

Brett Friedel jumped in front of Don Mullen Sr., Scott Mullen, Jack Stedding and George MacNeill at the start of the 40 +. In the middle laps, the Mullens engaged in a little sibling rivalry, swapping second several times before Don took control on the seventh lap.

Only three 450 A riders entered, all members of Donnie Mullen’s posse. He made things interesting in the heat by jumping the start, then taking the win late in the race. In the final, he didn’t jump, but he, Steve Lerch and Gary Jenkins traded positions in every turn. After playing with the other two, Mullen took the lead on the final lap, leaving Lerch and Jenkins to fight for second.

Patterson Prevails at Steel City Women’s National MX

Jessica Patterson overcame a horrendous start to capture her sixth overall win on her DNA Shred Stix/Star Racing/Easton EXP/

Bull Racing’s Ashley Fiolek, the defending champion, snared the start of the first moto, followed by Tarah Geiger on her Honda and Mariana Balbi on her Motoconcepts Yamaha. Patterson crashed on the start and charged from last (30th) to 8th by the end of the first lap, as Fiolek extended her lead over Balbi. Patterson worked her way forward and passed Balbi on the final lap of the 15-minute plus one lap moto to close within ten seconds

of Fiolek.Patterson absconded with the

second moto, followed by Fiolek and Alexah Pearson on her Yamaha. Fiolek

closed on Patterson near the nine-minute mark and cut inside for the lead. Patterson returned the pass less than a half lap later. Patterson held a two-second lead at 14 minutes into the moto. Fiolek closed on the last lap, tried to jam inside Patterson in the final turn, made contact and went down.Patterson stayed upright and

motored across the finish line for the win and overall. Fiolek remounted for second and

second overall. Pearson was third in the moto, while Balbi was fourth and third overall.B a l t i m o r e ,

Windham Wins While Canard Sweeps Steel City National MX

The penultimate round of the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship saw arguably the best American motocrosser to never win a championship take another win in his long career. Honda Red Bull Racing’s Kevin Windham put in impressive 1-2 motos to win the 450 Class.

Trey Canard kept his 250 Class Championship hopes alive and swept to his fifth win on his Geico Powersports Honda.

Honda Red Bull Racing’s Andrew Short snagged the start of the first 450 moto, with Brett Metcalfe on his Geico Powersports Honda and Ben Townley on his Troy Lee Designs/Lucas Oil/Red Bull Honda in tow. Newly crowned champion Ryan Dungey was sidelined with a broken front rotor on his Rockstar Makita Suzuki.

Metcalfe motored by Short to end the first lap, while Justin Brayton moved to third on his Muscle Milk/Toyota/JGR MX Yamaha, with Windham fourth. Windham soon passed Brayton, then 12 minutes into the moto passed Short. Windham nabbed the lead near halfway.

Metcalfe retook the lead just before the finish line, 24 minutes into the moto. Windham challenged Metcalfe

33 minutes into the moto, then made the pass and held off Metcalfe for the win. Townley recovered to third

Short snared the second 450 start too, followed by Dungey, Windham and Brayton. Windham charged past Dungey, then three minutes into the moto diced with Short and grabbed the lead. Two laps later Dungey passed Windham, while Brayton moved to third. At the 22-minute mark, Metcalfe began battling Brayton, then the pair closed on and pushed Windham.

Dungey won the moto, followed by Windham, Metcalfe and Brayton.

Windham was atop the podium, with Metcalfe second (2-3) and Brayton third (5-4).

New Jersey’s Jason Lawrence, J-Law, finished 19th by going 28-15 on his self-

s p o n s o r e d Yamaha. Lowell S p a n g l e r scored 16-20 and snagged 20th on his Monster Energy Team Green/Pro Circuit K a w a s a k i , while fellow Pennsylvanian Ronnie Stewart scored 29th on his Ocean C o u n t y Powerspor ts /

Delaware’s Tyler Wozney; Maryland’s Daniel Corbin; Pennsylvania’s Roy Holt, Daniel Horton Jr., Kyle Sidle, Broc Streit, Garret Toth, Richard White and Ryan Zimmerman; and New Jersey’s Ryan Gainey, Anthony Roth and Bryan Wallace entered and attempted to qualify.

Fall was in the air, as the weather was unsettled, overcast, breezy and cool, although there were

brief periods of sunshine. Then it cleared off for a beautiful late afternoon.

Tyla Rattray led the first 250 moto on his Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki, but was quickly passed by his teammate Christophe Pourcel. Trey Canard was third on his Geico Powersports Honda, then

nabbed second. Canard battled and passed Pourcel, and the pair swapped the lead, with Canard prevailing before halfway. Canard stretched a four-second lead at the 20-minute mark, but

barely held off Pourcel at the finish. Rattray was third.

Budd’s Creek winner Dean Wilson started strong in the second 250 moto aboard his Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki with Geico

Eli Tomac close behind. Wilson led for most of the moto as Canard and Pourcel charged to the front and were second and third just after mid-moto. Canard nabbed the lead near the end of 30 minutes and held off Pourcel, while

Wilson dropped to third.Canard was atop the podium. Pourcel

was second overall with a pair of seconds, and Rattray went 3-4 for third.

Darryn Durham nabbed 10th on his Honda of Troy with an 8-10 day! Fellow Pennsylvanian Shane Durham snared 20th on his Honda by going 16-24, while Steve Roman raced to 23rd on his Hillview Motorsports/Pro-Action Suspension Yamaha with a 20-28 day. Maryland’s Tony Archer went 30-33 for 32nd on his Coleman Powersports/O’Neal/Dunlop/Shoei Suzuki.

After a few weeks off from the racing action, the D6 PA State Harescramble Championship series returned to Evansville MX Park in the beautiful scenic mountains of Berwick, PA., Sept. 5, 2010.

With plenty of sunshine, partly cloudy conditions, a steady wind gust from time to time and no rain in sight, the track was very dry and dusty for the racing event.

Evansville had another great turnout, with more than one 100 riders coming out for this event looking forward to the always challenging five-mile course.

The 201 open A of the adult bike class had Obermeyer/Yamaha rider Charlie Mullins came up from North Carolina to do a battle with some of our local riders. Meanwhile, in the adult quad AA class, Team Rockstar/Yoshimura/Suzuki’s 2009 GNCC Pro XC1 ATV Champion Chris Borich took the win over Blake Kramer.

MAMA Members, The 2010 season is winding down, and what

an exciting year it has been. We have been very fortunate with the weather. As of the writing of this article, we just finished our race at Seaford. Rain caused a little bit of a delay, but we were able to get all motos in even after starting a good bit late.

As we wind the season down, we start planning for what will be a great banquet. Save the date of December 4th. We plan on having the usual outstanding trophies, great food, and lots of fun. Don’t forget to start to put together a picture page for the banquet book. This is always a great keepsake.

We have two races remaining at Budds Creek and one at Tomahawk. The Tomahawk race will be our last race of the season, so expect our normal Halloween activities and the always entertaining parents’ race.

For the 2011 season, we continue to look at other tracks where we might be able to race, so please do let the board know what your thoughts are here. We also are always looking at how we can improve the experience for our members and welcome your insight.

Lastly, as many are aware, MDRA is in discussions with D7 to take over that series as well as D6 series. MAMA has been and will continue to stay close to this situation to evaluate the impact on our organization in

the coming years. It is extremely important

we stay involved in these discussions, as there is no doubt that there will be an impact on motocross in the Mid Atlantic region. The MAMA board wants to ensure that we continue to put on the best youth motocross event in the region and that any agreement in no way negatively impacts MAMA, D7, and motocross in this region. If you have any questions about this subject, feel free to reach out to our board or Wayne Sody (D7 President).

Lehr Tops Two Perfect Podiums

The Fritz family, promoters of the Hurricane Hills Sports Center, hosted round 9 of the District 6 promoters Group Quad Ultimate Series. Mother Nature provided a beautiful day of mostly blue skies, 70 degrees and plenty of sunshine. A perfect day for racing!

Honda pilot Randy Lehr topped the podiums of the extremely competitive Quad A

and Pro Am divisions with a pair of perfect 1-1’s. Lehr used great starts and consistent, mistake-fee laps to outrun the competition.

Joseph Masta, Lehr, Mike Konasavage, and Tony Lucarelli led the pack out of the second turn in the opening Quad A moto. Lehr took the point position at the start of lap two, with Lucarelli in tow. Masta was displaced to third and was trailed by Tyler Dommel and Mitch Boughten. Brett Cusumano diced his way to the front after a not-so-great start, taking third with Nicholas Moser in tow. Dommel was relegated to fifth.

Lehr had a three-second lead at the start of lap four over Lucarelli in second. The top five were all spread out, and the only potential battle would be for the lead. Lucarelli charged on the last lap and closed the gap on Lehr but ran out of time. Lehr took the checkers two seconds ahead of Lucarelli. Cusumano, Moser and Dommel completed the top five.

Cusumano, Lehr, Dommel, Konasavage, Adam Sinz and Lucarelli led the start of the final Quad A moto. Lehr trailed Cusumano for

the first lap but made the pass for the lead at the start of lap two. Cusumano was relegated to second. Dommel, Lucarelli and Konasavage rounded out the top five. Lehr had a two-second lead by the start of lap three. Lucarelli reeled in Dommel and made the pass for third on the flat track section. Dommel was pushed back to fourth. Konasavage held fifth.

Cusumano made a mistake at the entrance to the rhythm section at the end of lap three, which gave Lucarelli second, Dommel third, Konasavage

fourth and Moser fifth. Lehr took the checkered flag with a seven-

second advantage. Lucarelli, Moser, Dommel and Konasavage closed out the top five.

Lehr topped the podium with a perfect 1-1. Lucarelli took second with a consistent 2-2, and Moser completed the rostrum with a 4-3 tally.

Lehr continued his great starts and led the pack off the start of the first Pro Am moto. Moser, Lucarelli, and Cusumano followed.

Lehr continued to lead the pack at the start of lap two but was now being pressured by Lucarelli in second. Moser Cusumano and Sinz rounded out the top five.

Lehr slowly began to pull away and had a five-second lead by the start of lap three. Lucarelli held Lehr’s lead to five

seconds but crashed on the last lap, assuring Lehr another win.

Lehr took the checkers with a six-second lead. Moser, Cusumano, Sinz and Masta rounded out the top five.

Moser, Anthony Burke, Lehr and Lucarelli led the start of the final Pro Am moto. Lehr quickly got by Burke to move into second behind Moser at the start of lap two. Lucarelli and Boughten completed the top five. Lucarelli passed Burke on the downhill triple, taking third after two and a half laps. Burke was displaced to fourth.

Moser continued to hold the point at the start of lap three with Lehr less than a Quad length behind. Any mistakes, and Lehr would capitalize. Moser made that mistake about halfway into lap three, and Lehr slipped past on

the inside in the corner preceding the downhill triple. Moser was relegated to second. Lehr had a three-second lead at the start of lap four that Moser gradually reduced to almost nothing by the last lap. Moser pressured Lehr for the lead but could not get close enough to make a pass. Lehr held on to take the win by only two quad lengths over Moser. Lucarelli, Masta and Burke completed the top five.

Lehr (1-1) topped the podium. Moser (2-2) took second and Masta (5-4) third.

Labor Day Sunday found round #11 of 12 of the 2010 MDRA Race Series at the beautiful Tomahawk MX Park in Hedgesville, WVa. The day was perfect for racing, with sunny skies but mild temperatures. Rain had fallen the day before and very early in the morning along, with a slight breeze, which made for clear sailing on the day.

The day started off with the riders meeting as usual, only this time series organizers Rod and Jeff Yentzer would have an exciting announcement for the racers of the MDRA. For those that don’t know, the MDRA was originally a branch off of AMA District 7 racing. Many racers from that series had migrated to the MDRA looking for more competition and a more centralized racing series. As the MDRA grew and continually strived to better the series, its hope over the last couple of years has been to merge back with AMA District 7. The goal was to again create an even better racing environment for all. Just days prior to this round, District 7 and the MDRA penned a deal to do exactly that.

For 2011, things should get very exciting. Not only has the merger been created south of the Mason Dixon line, but shortly after this weekend, the promoters of AMA District 6 voted to create their own MDRA 6 Series. In addition, a combined MDRA Quad Series is being created for ATV racers from both districts. What does this all mean you ask? Riders will be able to race in the series of their choice, North or South of the border, if you will, or with a combined card that will allow racers to compete in both series, earning points and awards from both. This means new competition and better logistics, allowing riders to stay either closer to home or to reach out and take on bigger challenges. Stay tuned to the MDRA website for all the details. I believe we’re about to blow the roof off the racing action here in our area.

Back to the day’s racing. It was intense as usual, especially with this year’s series winding down. Points are very valuable at this stage in the game, and the racers know what needs to be done. Check out the day’s results here and again log onto the MDRA website at www.

Classic Labor Day

“Classic” is the word for today. Labor Day at Sleepy Hollow brings the best out, and round 10 of a series also means that if it’s close, now’s the time to show it. For the fans it may be just another Sunday, but this was a big weekend for most everyone here. I saw Lowell Spangler make his pro debut at Steel City on Saturday, and here he is taking the Open A and 250A. This was not your throw some burgers on the grill and watch TV holiday, most of these guys raced all weekend. Now that’s classic. Side by side battles in all classes, and I got the photos to show it, truly classic.

Let’s get to it, Michael Giovanniello goes (2-1) to take the Supermini, Addison Emory IV goes (1-2) to take second. In the 25+ it was Pamart (3-1), Clark (2-2) and Cook with a (1-3). In the 250A, Spangler (1-1), Sidle in second, followed with Kramer, as classic a battle we have seen all year. In Open A it was Spangler, Sidle and Holton.

250 B: Despite Bobby Piazza throwing down some great starts, it was Balkovic (1-1), Piazza (4-2) and Kastle taking third with a (3-4). Kastle would get his revenge in Open B with a (1-1), Chen with a (4-2), and Shoemaker third with a (5-4). Both these groups were filled with some great talent, and if you have ever watched these guys, it’s not only racing at the front of the pack, it’s every rider. These young men have paid their dues.

Speaking of paying dues, I would like to give a big “Thanks” to all the riders and the families who exemplify what it means to be a MX family. I thank you for your time and commitment,

which are evident in your children.Not to miss anyone, I don’t watch the

points, I’m happy for whoever wins, but I watch the race from a different angle. When I see Lowell go down no matter here or at a Pro outdoor event, I feel his pain, but then in an instant it changes to a “yes!” as he’s up an gone like it’s another day at the office. When I see guys like Arie Reachard go to the

big bike and run three classes, it’s just like watching Sidle or Clark years ago. When I see fathers cheering for their sons like Cory or Austin getting their first wins, I say “Thank you.”

Back to “Classic.” I save the best two for last. Future classic racers, Open C, three Yamahas on the front, Arie takes a third with a (4-4). But the two on the front I have been

watching are Calvyn Beck out of York, PA, and Sean Baxley out of Westminster, MD. Usually one of them gets out front and the other gets hung up, but today they got to go at it side by side. I must confess I stopped taking pictures to watch the race. Beck wins with a (2-1), Baxley takes second with a (1-2). In the 250 C, it was Baxley with a (1-1), Beck with a (3-2) and Frey (2-3).

Nothing says “Classic” Labor Day at the Hollow like watching Barry Carsten and Greg Pamart race. It doesn’t get any better than this. Race of the day; no, race of the season. I don’t think there were ever more than a couple of bike lengths between them at any time, every race, every lap.

And that’s “the way I saw it”
