Executive Officer of EcoglobalIncorporated, said theypicked Zamboanga to be thehub of the Philippines’ firstever solar energy plantbecause of the city’s hugepotentials. He said the solarenergy plant will have apower generation capacity ofup to 300 megawatts at itspeak.

Climaco – who is a strongadvocate of renewable energy- said the solar power plantwould be put up at theZamboanga City Freeportand Economic Zone in thevillage of Talisayan.

“Construction of thesolar power facility isexpected to begin in a week’stime of two and the targetdate for completion is on orbefore March 2016,” she saidfollowing a meeting withHenry’s group. During themeeting, Climaco said theydiscussed and finalized themultimillion solar powerfarm investments in a bid toend the worsening poweroutages in Zamboanga thathas affected the localeconomy.

She said EcoglobalIncorporated will finance,manage and operate the solarpower plant.

Henry said the solarpower plant will start with 30megawatts and graduallyincrease this to 100megawatts and furthermoretriple this with thecombination of wind energy.He said they have conductedwind mapping and it is morethan enough source of cleanenergy for Zamboanga.

Aside from solar energy,Ecoglobal Incorporates alsooffers the following services -Battery Recycling, Waste toEnergy Plant, Bamboo Eco-Wastewater Treatment, AirQuality and Climate Change,Mobile Solar Energy, Potable

Conal Holdings hassigned a memorandum ofagreement with theZamboanga City Freeportand Economic Zone for thefossil fuel power station. Itwas also granted a so-called“no-objection” resolutionfrom the Zamboanga CityCouncil even without priorpublic consultations,although a few councilmembers have rejected theproject because of pollutionand its effect to theenvironment. Pro-

environment groups saidcoal-fired power plants arethe single largest stationarysource of pollution in anycountry. The toxins these coalfired power plants produceseverely damage both humanhealth and the environmentand contribute to a reducedquality of life.

Coal-fired power plantsare responsible for releaseover 85% of total globalcarbon dioxide emissions, aprime contributor to globalwarming. Emissions fromthese power plants containtens of dozens of toxicchemicals and the pollutionthey release every day are amajor threat to human healthand environment.

Coal-fired units produceelectricity by burning coal ina boiler to heat water toproduce steam. The steam, attremendous pressure, flowsinto a turbine, which spins agenerator to produceelectricity. The steam iscooled, condensed back intowater, and returned to theboiler to start the processover. But environmentalistssay the coal-fired powerplants will pollute the air andcontribute to global warming.

“Coal is the dirtiest fossilfuel and a main driver ofclimate change. There arehundreds of examplesaround the world wherecommunities around coalplants suffer the impacts ofenvironmental damage andhealth problems,” saidGreenpeace Southeast Asiacampaigner, Amalie Obusan.

Zamboanga’s dailypower consumption is about85 megawatts and the localelectric cooperative gets alittle over half of its totalrequirements from theNational Power Corporation.And now is suffering fromdaily power outages lasting aslong as 8 hours. (MindanaoExaminer)

77,138, and Siquijor with20, 316 foreign tourists.

The top 10 foreignmarkets for CentralVisayas are the following- Korea as the top visitorfollowed by Japan, UnitedStates, China, Australia,United Kingdom,Germany, Canada,France, and Taiwan.

Barrientos said thedata for the fourth quarteror from October toDecember would bereleased early next year,adding that the rankingwould more or less be thesame, relative to foreignmarket share.
