POPPY WALK 19TH JULY 2015

Join 400 walkers for our annual Poppy Walk - where participants search for clues en route and discover more about London.

Now in its 13th year, we are delighted to announce that for the first time Poppy Walk will be starting and finishing at Wellington Barracks, from where you will follow a 10km trail around a maze of London’s historic streets, taking in some familiar (and some not so familiar!) sights along the way.

We will be welcoming walkers from 10am, but as soon as you are armed with your map and t-shirt and have high-fived our Poppy Mascot, you are free to set off on your way!

The speed in which you take it is up to you - we just ask that you return to us before 4:30pm, where you will find out the answers to our quiz and receive a small reward for your achievement.

Most importantly, through Poppy Walk vital funds are raised to support The Royal British Legion. With your help, the event is hoping to raise £25,000 towards projects such as our Battleback Centre. Wounded and sick servicemen struggling to adapt to civilian life can escape the stresses and strains of every day life at the Centre, which aims to build their confidence and independence through a stimulating adaptive training programme and accelerate their recovery.

SOMME 2016 OVER THE CENTENARY The Battle of the Somme began on a bright July morning in 1916. After five months of gruelling struggle this piece of French countryside was reduced to razed villages and burnt out farmland. A stunning display of Remembrance honouring the fallen. The field contains row upon row of scarlet poppies and personal tributes to all those who have lost their lives in our Armed Forces.

The Field of Remembrance is situated in the Walled Garden in the grounds of Lydiard House & Park, Lydiard Tregoze, Swindon SN5 3PA, just outside of Royal Wootton Bassett town centre.

Directions by train:Swindon station - approximately 4 miles from Lydiard Park.Bus stop non Fleming Way is approximately 5 minutes walk from Swindon Station.

Directions by bus:From Swindon town centre, Thamesdown Transport No1 and 1A (make sure the bus destination says Middleleaze or Ramleaze) run frequently from Fleming Way.

Directions by car:Lydiard Park is situated on the western edge of Swindon. From M4 all routes including A420 & A346, exit J16 towards Swindon and follow brown signs to Lydiard Park. From M5/A419 and routes through Swindon town centre, follow signs to West Swindon, then pick up signs to Lydiard Park.
