Press Ganey Compliments

Hospital-wide compliments from a grateful patient via Press Ganey Survey“I can’t begin to say enough about the nurses on M4. They were all so very kind, professional and efficient with anything they did and with any request asked of them. Their care made my stay so much better than it could have been. They were always so concerned with managing my pain and trying to keep me comfortable. I would especially like to thank Sarah [Scozzaro], Valerie [Bogdan], Laurel [Brown], Kim [Costella], Renee [Reese], Monica [Reese], Tabby [Potts], Angie [Duttera] and Mandy [Kroft]. I know that I am missing a few names so I am sorry for that because I really appreciate all of the care that I received.

Melissa [Stalcup] from Ultrasound was very concerned with trying to keep me comfortable and explained everything that I would need to know. Kayla [Rineman] and Kelly [Starling] were equally kind during my CT.

Drs. [Maksim] Lapkovsky and [James] Freeman were very efficient and informative in the ER. Dr. [David] Crooks was excellent. He thoroughly explained his entire plan of action during my stay. When he decided that I would need surgery, he got me up there quickly and kept my husband informed of everything he was doing. He saw me every day in the hospital and followed up with me after I left. Dr. [Mohammad] Bari is my family doctor and he also came by to see me twice during my stay and has followed up with me now that I am home.

Sarah [Scozzaro] was the nurse I had on M4 when the decision to place an NGT needed to be addressed. She knew my anxiety about having one and was so very compassionate about having to do it. She was so kind to me that night.

Everyone was very pleasant [in Operating/Recovery Room]. Novia [Campbell] was very kind and professional when she greeted us prior to going in to surgery. My husband was kept well informed of everything they were doing.”

E4“Nurses Caitlyn [Comrey], Brianna [Vecera], Kristen [Kaminkow], Holly [Heisey] and June [Bennett]. I don’t think I could have nurses any better in my stay. Professional, courteous and very nice to me and my family. Thanks to all.”

HANOVER MEDICAL GROUP ADULT MEDICINE MULTISPECIALTY GROUP“Dr. [Moushumi] Kundu is very caring. If it wouldn’t be for her calling the gastro doctor for results of colonoscopy report, which [had not been checked by other doctor], I would most likely be walking around with colon cancer. Because Dr. Kundu cares, I had colon surgery and no more [cancer].”

MAMMOGRAPHY“The registrar named Kristi [Feeser] was very quick and I was in and out of registration in no time!”

“Shannon [Strausbaugh] in the mammography department was exceptional and tried to keep me comfortable during the mammogram.”

“Deb Shanbarger is very knowledgeable and comforting. It was realized that our mothers were friends many years ago when we were youngsters. It was great to reminisce and made the experience less painful.”

“Amber [Shaw] did my exam. She was very professional, kind and concerned for my comfort.”

MATERNITY“Nurse Jackie [Gerke] was EXTREMELY helpful, polite, attentive, informative and comforting!”

SURGICENTER“I was very nervous but everyone put me at ease.”

SOUTH HANOVER EXPRESS CARE“There were no delays. I was treated by people who cared. I was given an Rx, took it [to be filled] and felt better almost at once. (Can’t get any better than that.)

“As with Dr. Shah, I found [Brandon] Bishop to be very considerate and professional, going over my medications and last lab test very thoroughly. Thank you!”

EMPLOYEE RECOGNITION

Hanover Medical Group earns

EXCELLENCE IN PATIENT SERVICE Award from United Healthcare! This award, given annually by United Healthcare, acknowledges the measureable results that Hanover Medical Group achieved in closing patient care opportunities for the Medicare Advantage members.

HERE IS AN EXCERPT FROM THE AWARD FROM KERRI BALBONE, NATIONAL VICE PRESIDENT OF UNITED HEALTHCARE: “Congratulations! As a participant in our 2015 Medicare Advantage – Primary Care Physician Incentive program, we’re happy to recognize you with the 2015 PATH Excellence in Patient Service award.”

“We appreciate your commitment to providing a better health care experience. Your efforts support achieving better health outcomes for your patients, and all of us at United Healthcare value our partnership with you.”

Accepting the award on behalf of HMG is Lisa Keeney, Manager of the Quality & Care Coordination Department. “It’s great for HMG to be recognized for all our hard work in 2015. It’s a team effort, and the physicians, team members and care coordinators have done an excellent job on closing patient care opportunities. Congratulations HMG!”

Congratulations to the Heart & Vascular Diagnostic Services team for earning accreditation for all four testing modalities by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC): Extracranial Cerebrovascular, Peripheral Venous, Peripheral Arterial and Visceral Vascular Testing.

We were commended by the IAC for demonstrating Hanover Hospital’s pursuit of excellence in the field of vascular testing, and our commitment to providing quality patient care.

According to Tanya Lynne, Manager, Heart & Vascular Diagnostic Services, “This is the first time in Hanover Hospital’s history that we are ICAVL accredited in 4 out of 5 vascular modalities (we do not perform the the study for the 5th modality.”

“We have received a total of 7 certifications under Tanya’s leadership,” adds Pat Saunders, VP of Nursing. “Most small community hospitals don’t have anything like this.”

EMPLOYEE RECOGNITION

Congratulations to Jessica Ellis, RN, BSN, MSN, a staff nurse who works on the PCU (Progressive Care Unit), who recently obtained her Masters of Science in Nursing Degree. Working as a nurse since 2009, she has been employed at Hanover Hospital since 2013, and has participated in the Clinical Advancement Program (CAP) levels 3 and 4.

Jessica, who completed her degree at Western Governor’s University, decided to pursue the degree because she “would love to become an instructor at a university” someday. It took her

about 5 months to complete the MSN, while juggling responsibilities of full time employment, a husband and 4-year old. Her next goal, after her daughter starts kindergarten, is to pursue her doctorate degree, as she says many positions are now requiring it.

“I love the difference you can make in a patient’s life. It is not every patient, but one can make up for them all. I also love that the field is so vast that if something is not for you, you can find something else you might like better.”

Congratulations to Jaime Cool, Diane Gabriel, Julia Rider and Melissa Weiss on achieving their CNOR certification, by the Competency and Credentialing Institute (CCI).

CNOR certification, according to the CCI, is a definition, not an acronym. It is defined as “the documented validation of the professional achievement of identified standards of practice by an individual registered nurse providing care for patients before, during and after surgery.” CNOR means the individual has demonstrated the knowledge and skills that denote competency in the specialized field of perioperative nursing.

According to Jodi Lafferty, Director of Surgical Services, the entire surgical team has either completed, or is in the process of obtaining CNOR certification. She adds that her team also earned recognition for

prepping in the OR. “We had an outside auditor come in and watch our teams process. We scored high and also beat out all the surrounding hospitals!”

Jaime Cool, BSN, RN, CNOR, who has been a surgical nurse for 16 years at Hanover Hospital, serves as circulating nurse, scrub nurse and evening charge nurse in the OR. Though it is a requirement to CNOR certification, Jaime thought it was time to show proof of the years of service she has given in the surgical field. “I love helping people, and every patient and every case is different. You must adapt for that patient and have their safety as number one priority – things can happen very quickly.”

Diane Gabriel, BSN, RN, CNOR, CLNC, who is the OR Nurse Manager, has been a surgical nurse for 25 years. She chose to pursue her CNOR to “maintain and

develop my personal growth within the surgical service field.” She enjoys serving as an advocate for her patients, ensuring that patient safety is a priority along with great surgical outcomes.

Julia Rider, RN, CNOR, a Circulator in the OR, and has been a surgical nurse for 4 years. She pursued CNOR certification to better serve her patients “with a more thorough understanding of the OR – to become a more valuable team member.” She notes that helping others as part of a team is personally rewarding to her.

Melissa Weiss, RN, CNOR, a surgical nurse for 9 years, had been wanting to obtain her CNOR for several years, and when it became mandatory, “It was just the push I needed!” She enjoys being the patients’ advocate and voice when they don’t have one.

Dr. Ahsan Mohar Newest Pediatric HospitalistAhsan Mohar, M.D., a pediatric hospitalist, joins Dr. Beth Smith, pediatric hospitalist and Lakhbir Kaur, pediatric nurse practitioner as part of the Hanover Medical Group Hospitalist group.

Board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics, Dr. Mohar received his Medical Degree at Grodno State Medical University, Belarus, and served residencies in Pediatrics at Mount Sinai School of Medicine at Jersey City Medical Center, Jersey City, NJ and at Albert Einstein College of Medicine at Montefiore Medical Center, Bronx, NY. He also completed a Fellowship in Neonatology at East Carolina University, Brody School of Medicine, Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville, NC.

Most recently, Dr. Mohar was employed as a Pediatric Hospital/Neonatologist (Level II NICU) at Nemours Children’s Hospital at Phoenixville Hospital, in Phoenixville, PA, and as a pediatrician/level I and II nursery, at Albemarle Pediatric Associates, in Elizabeth City, NC.

Hanover Hospital’s reputation as a stand-alone hospital in a small community setting is one of the things that attracted Dr. Mohar to work here. “It speaks volumes about its strong attitude towards helping people.” Dr. Mohar explains that he chose his specialty because he believes that a child’s physical and mental health is a prerequisite for a healthy adult, who in turn can be a responsible individual. “This is what drove me to pursue a career in pediatrics, as it would allow me to make an impact in building a healthier society.”

Dr. Mohar promises his patients and their families that they can rely upon receiving care for their children based on the latest evidence based practices; and on receiving his honest opinions about their children’s conditions and plans to manage them, “Just as I would do for my own child.”

Dr. Nicolas Habib New Lung SpecialistNicolas Habib, M.D., a pulmonologist, recently joined the staff of Hanover Medical Group Pulmonary & Sleep Medicine, with Drs. Michael Ader and Ayman Bishay and Lauren Penrose, PA-C.

Board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and Education Commission for Foreign Medical Graduate Certification, Dr. Habib earned his Medical Degree at St. Joseph’s University, in Beirut, Lebanon. He served Internal Medicine residencies at Staten Island University Hospital, in Staten Island, NY and at the Intensive Care Unit, Cleveland Clinic Foundation, in Cleveland, OH, and recently completed his Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowship at Staten Island University Hospital in Staten Island.

In addition to his expertise in general pulmonary (lung) and critical care medicine, Dr. Habib’s other areas of special interest include performing endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) and navigational bronchoscopy procedures.

“Respiratory difficulties can affect anyone from the young to the elderly. The scope of respiratory diseases extends from the outpatient clinic to the critical care setting. This gives me the chance to be there for my patients at their sickest and their healthier moments. I will treat every patient I see like a member of my family, and give them the kind of attention I would look for when I seek medical care. I am so thankful to feel that I made a difference in someone’s life and helped him or her enjoy it with their families and loved ones.”

Hanover Medical Group Pulmonary & Sleep Medicine is located at Hillside Medical Center, 250 Fame Avenue, Suite 200/202, in Hanover.

PATIENT EXPERIENCE

SEPTEMBER 2016 | www.HanoverHospital.org | 7

DIANE SHANNON IS THE AUGUST FOCUSED AWARD RECIPIENT

Press Ganey Survey ComplimentsEMERGENCY DEPARTMENT“I visited the wound care nurse Sharon Brady – she was great. She showed me some new ways to work with the skin around my stoma. She was very kind and helpful. Next time I have trouble I will come to see Sharon – it was worth the half-hour drive.”

“A very good experience all around. I had fallen and broke my left wrist in two places and my right wrist was broken as well which required surgery. [PA] Eric Bond took care of me and was so nice and caring as well as the nurse that assisted him. I am now on the road to recovery. I love Hanover Hospital.”

“My nurse was excellent. Her name was Lori [Brown]. She made me feel comfortable and helped explain my care.”

GASTROENTEROLOGY“Dr. [Danilo] Diaz is very informative. He is very kind and patient in answering any questions I have. He takes the fear out of the procedure. He is an excellent doctor in my opinion.”

HANOVER MEDICAL GROUP CARDIOLOGY“I was treated very well by Dr. [Gurpal] Singh and the entire staff …Thanks to all! Dr. Singh was a kind, courteous, knowledgeable, cardiologist. My first time to ever be seen by a heart doctor – I was kind of alarmed not knowing what the outcome might be – but no problems.”

“Dr. [David] Gilbert is a wonderfully caring person. He has a great bedside manner. I would definitely refer him to any of my friends and family.”

HANOVER MEDICAL GROUP PULMONARY & SLEEP MEDICINE“Dr. [Ayman] Bishay truly cared about me and wants to see my health improve. He remembers or reviews his notes from earlier visits and makes me feel heard and important.”

HANOVER MEDICAL GROUP GRANDVIEW ADULT & FAMILY MEDICINE“Dr. [Vipul] Shah is my favorite doctor. Never have I needed him that I couldn’t get in touch with him!”

“As with Dr. Shah, I found [Brandon] Bishop to be very considerate and professional, going over my medications and last lab test very thoroughly. Thank you!”

Congratulations to Diane Shannon, IV Infusion Therapy, who is the August FOCUSED Award recipient. Nominated twice – by her director Dawn Osterling and Toni College, Nursing Administration – and was “caught” role modeling the Friendly, Owner-minded, United, Service-oriented, Empathetic, and Devoted & Respectful Standards of Performance.

HERE ARE EXCERPTS FROM ONE OF HER NOMINATIONS: “Diane is an IV therapist… and travels all over the hospital assisting with IV insertions. In her travels, Diane will stop to help patients and goes out of

her way to assist nurses in their tasks. The other day, Diane was in the ED inserting an IV and overheard

that a patient needed a Foley. Recognizing the ED was busy, she inserted the Foley for the

nurse. This is a true example of owner-mindedness. Diane could have easily inserted the IV, washed her hands and left, fulfilling her responsibility, yet that is not Diane’s style. Diane is flexible with her time and makes adjustments to help so that we can better cover the hospital.

It is a privilege to work with Diane and I am proud to have her on my team.”

Read both of her nominations, view

photos of her award presentation and find out who else was nominated this month on the Patient

Experience page of the hospital intranet.

TRY JUMPING ON A TRAMPOLINE FOR EXERCISE In just 30 minutes, you can burn 160 calories by jumping on a mini-trampoline. It’s a lowimpact exercise, too. See basic trampoline techniques below:

Basic Trampoline Bounce The basic bounce may seem simple, but it burns a lot of calories and also tones your quads, glutes, and calf muscles.

Stand on the mini trampoline with your feet about 6 inches apart.

Bend your arms, keeping your elbows at your sides.

With a slight bend in your knees, lightly bounce up and down. Your feet should come about 6 inches off the trampoline.

Trampoline Prances This move helps to increase your heart rate and is an overall great workout.

Stand on the mini trampoline with your feet 6 inches apart.

With your hands on your hips and knees slightly bent, bounce on the balls of your feet, and alternate raising your right and left knees to hip level (mimicking the “knees up” running-in-place exercise from gym class).

Repeat 60 times (30 lifts per leg).

As a value-based health care service for their employees, R.H. Sheppard Co., Inc. in Hanover recently opened FirstLine Care, a workplace clinic staffed by Hanover Hospital clinicians. Now, accessible in the workplace are health and wellness services for first aid and injury treatment, acute symptom management, primary care, vaccinations, answers to health related questions and scheduling for diagnostic tests. In addition, the clinic staff will provide disease management services, first responder participation, ergonomic studies and work place physicals.

The clinic is also available to spouses and dependents of employees who are covered under the R.H. Sheppard company’s medical plan and refers individuals to various Hanover Hospital services, such as laboratory and imaging.

Douglas Brown, PA and Emily Myers, LPN, of Hanover Medical Group, currently are the service providers at FirstLine Care, but additional health care practitioners are called upon for scheduled services when necessary.
