PERSONAL PROFILE

I am an enthusiastic and creative Architect, who is eager to further their career by undertaking new challenges and developing their professional capabilities.

The experience I have gained within my current role has been pivotal to my development and I have been fortunate to be given such responsibilities on a range of projects.

I believe that continuing development is vital to further an Architects career and therefore I became CPD Coordinator for HHA in 2012. With the introduction of BIM, I have researched a number of educational avenues which could introduce BIM to the practice.

Previous experience as a Bar Manager along with playing football have given me good communication skills, along with the confidence and abilities to use my own initiative when working within a group or independently.

Redevelopment of the Riverside Landscape alongside Stafford Civic Centre. The project incorporated new hard and soft surface finishes. Balustrades and planters were also designed as part of the project. Elements of the scheme have been incorporated into a major retail development which is currently ongoing adjacent to the Riverside Project.

Following a successful fee bid I developed the brief to produce a number of scheme proposals that included a selection of products and materials. The Local Planning Authority and Environment Agency were consulted prior to the project starting on site. It was important for the client to be updated throughout the scheme with regards to budget and programme. A good relationship was formed between Contractor and Architect during the construction period.

An interesting brief which required for an existing office space to be reconfigured into a HBN compliant health centre, with specialist consulting rooms and administrative areas. Given the design of the existing building achieving the required accommodation produced a number of complex issues.

Took the project on at feasibility stage, working it up through detail design and running the project on site. I worked on the project with minimal supervision, meeting with the client and users to ensure that the facility was suitable for purpose. A good working relationship was formed with the contractor which helped to create a project that satisfied both users and patients.

The new plant room was a practical, contemporary solution for the new M&E requirements for the new ADCU proposal. The internal layout was particularly complicated as the building had to be as low as possible, while still accommodating a substantial amount of machinery. Aesthetically, the design achieved a pleasing solution to a typically bland typology.

Developed the design closely with M&E engineers in order to utilise every cubic metre. Liaising with M&E engineers to ensure each piece of equipment was accessible, whilst also allowing for maintenance and removal where required. Full plan-ning and building control applications were compiled and issued. Construction issues occurred on site in regards to tanking details, but through discussions with contractor a solution was found.

ROYAL ORTHOPAEDIC HOSPITAL NHS TRUSTPRIVATE WARD ENTRANCEREFURBISHMENTHEALTHCARE£72,000 BUILD COSTRIBA WORK STAGES PERSONALLY EXPERIENCED: 2-7

Interpreted the client’s brief to capture the intended characteristics for the entrance. I developed the design alongside a structural glazing manufacturer, who enabled us to minimise the construction. Working with the contractor was important to ensure they understood the design intentions and didn't compromise on details. Full Planning and Building Control applications were compiled and issued. The project was managed through each stage of the RIBA Plan of Work.

The Private Ward entrance allowed me to implement design strategies that were researched as part of my dissertation. Structural Glass solutions were ideal for the image the client wanted to portray for the design. The recessed entrance is hidden behind the new plant room and along a simple un-interesting elevation, the new structure needed to stand out, while at the same time seem exclusive.

Worked with a colleague to draw up initial layout proposals for each department, continually liaising with the client and users to ensure a suitable proposal is achieved. In order to achieve required deadlines a number of colleagues were brought on board, requiring guidance to ensure design intentions were carried through. Supervised work on site, attended site meetings and dealt with any issues which arose.

A major redesign to part of the existing hospital, including a courtyard infill and design refurbishment of four different departments. Each department had a specific brief, which had to be fully HBN compliant. Accommodating each department within the space allocated while allowing for administration, records, decontamination, records and ward areas proved to be a complex task.

BIRMINGHAM CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL MAU/HDUREFURBISHMENTHEALTHCARE£1,795,040 BUILD COSTRIBA WORK STAGES PERSONALLY EXPERIENCED: 2-7

Assisted with initial layout proposals and conceived pod concept. Attended design team meeting working alongside M&E engineers, Structural Engineers and Quantity Surveyor to progress the scheme through to detail design. Undertook meetings with the Planning Authority and Building Control to ensure the project achieved approvals from both departments. Supervised all stages of work on site, developing a positive working relationship with the Contractor.

A noticeable elevation on the route into Birmingham. The two pods formed a practical and aesthetically pleasing solution to the refurbishment, which enabled us to achieve the issued brief to accommodate a fully HBN compliant department. The eclectic window pattern allows for the windows to blend in and remain hidden from the busy expressway. The project reached the finals of the AJ Retrofit Award and is my most prominent scheme to date.

Worked with the client to develop the brief and initial concept. Liaised closely with the Local Planning Authority to achieve a contemporary design within a conservation area. Following completion and submission of planning documents the application failed due to objections from a local Civic Society. As the Client chose not to contest the decision I designed an alternative scheme and developed this to working drawings stage, after achieving planning approval.

An exciting project that enabled me to fully implement my own design style onto a scheme. Through liaising with the client I was able to step into their mindset and capture the essence of their intentions. The project drew on my design, construction and planning knowledge and although the initial contemporary scheme did not pass planning, lessons were learnt from the experience. The final build constructed utilised the internal layout from the original proposal with a revised more traditional envelope.

Assisted a colleague to produce a Condition Report for a Grade II listed barn. Liaised with a Structural Engineer to detail sensitive and suitable solutions to a number of construction issues. Developed an internal design proposal to create an educational facility along with toilet/washroom accommodation. Gained Listed Building Consent and Building Regulation Approval, along with producing a full package of tender information. Once on site I supervised the project through to end of defects.

A restoration project that furthered my conservation capabilities, through undertaking a condition survey and assessing defects of the existing building. A number of issues were only evident once areas of the construction had been exposed, therefore site visits were critical and testing. Decisions had to be made while viewing an issue, meaning I had to use my initiative and experience to propose a solution.

Refurbishment of an existing ward to meet current HBN guidance in regards to consulting rooms and single sex wards. Two new extensions were created to accommodate a larger waiting area and children's playroom. The project also included a new sensory room, staff base, along with new finishes and decorations. The project was well received by the staff with the alterations improving daily routines.
