“OUTLOOK” ECO-RESORTWinter 2011 Hospitality Design Studio

Utilizing eco-friendly and sustainable design techniques, a resort was created for the remote city of Leh, India, located in the Himalayan Mountains. With the project constraints requiring only an eco-resort in Leh’s region, students determined their own user group, site, and interpretation of the “eco-resort” concept.

Proving that eco-conscious design does not have to sacrifice style, the Outlook Resort is a luxurious and relaxing getaway for professionals and world travelers looking to experience the rich history and traditions of Leh, India. Utilizing local building techniques, materials,

customs, and traditional crafts, the hotel celebrates the region and its many resources. Spectacular mountain views are one of Leh’s best features, and all the hotel buildings are designed to give guests the best views possible, without sacrificing their privacy or comfort.

CORPORATE RE-BRANDING & OFFICE DESIGNSummer 2010 Corporate Design Studio

After re-branding a company of our choosing, a new corporate office was designed to represent the company’s new image. With half the floor of a historic downtown Cincinnati office building as a site, the office was to accommodate a workforce of 10-20 employees. This chosen company was the online retailer ModCloth.com.

For the new office, white walls and light wood flooring create a neutral backdrop to really showcase what makes the Modcloth company unique - its merchandise. Framed flat screen TV display images from the company’s website and marketing campaigns, and new products decorate the

spaces as they prepare for their online debut. The colored ceiling panels not only mark circulation, but their acoustical properties help diminish noise in primarily open floorplan.

HOTEL RENOVATIONFall 2011 - Spring 2012 FRCH Design Worldwide

Creating inviting and comfortable interiors that highlight and celebrate “local flavor” is the design goal of each Hampton Inn. Assisting the project’s primary designer and architect, the project’s drawings and specifications were completed and submitted for brand review before the renovation could commence in early 2012.

HOTEL CONCEPT DESIGN SCHEMESSpring 2012 FRCH Design Worldwide

Under strict time and budget constraints, a design scheme was created for the lobby renovations of two Homewood Suites located in New England. Working with the project’s head interior designer, books detailing the chosen furniture, fabrics, and finishes, as well as new floor plans were compiled for each property.

For renovations of two Homewood Suites in New Jersey and Connecticut, a custom sofa was designed for the entry lobby of each property. An interpretation of the brand’s developing “Take Flight” initiative, the piece provides a private inner sofa beside the fireplace, as well as a bench around the outside to “perch” and wait.

An Icon For The Ages... In contrast to the cold interiors of many high-end

stores, Monroe stores are warm and inviting . The

scheme of black, white, red, and bold geometric

prints creates a signature look for the brand that

translates into smaller stand-alone stores and

department store displays. No matter the venue, the

customer can always recognize the Monroe brand.

How May We Help You?... Customer service is a key piece of the Monroe brand,

and the company strives to make the shopping

experience as effortless and fun as possible. After

browsing at their leisure, customers can find a sales

associate to pick exactly what pieces they would like.

The customer is then escorted to the lounge to relax

and wait for their purchase to be packaged.

Approachable Luxury...While they remain upscale and luxurious, Monroe stores

do not have the exclusivity and elitism of some retailers.

The store is designed to appeal to men and women

of a variety of ages and styles, and anyone can find

something in the store that they love. The Monroe brand

also strives to be environmentally and socially conscious,

identifying itself as “down-to-earth luxury.”

iconic style for the modern consumerClassic elegance, effortless glamour, and understated whimsy define the Monroe

aesthetic. With products for all ages, anyone who shops at the store will feel

welcome and relaxed, and will come out confident and ready to face the world.

The 2012 RDI Competition challenged students to develop a new Toronto flagship store for a high-end accessory retailer. Given site plans and a brief description of the hypothetical company’s competitors and desires, the store’s complete design (from branding, to window displays, to floor plans) was left to participants to create.
