    STATUS ABNORMALITIES [STTS]____________________________

In battle, a character free of disease and hurt is 'good'; a status changewill act as a detriment to his/her battle actions, and will be displayedunder their name in yellow lettering. Ending battle will alleviate all ofthe following symptoms, INCLUDING faint (revive with 1 HP).

    TIPS & TRICKS [TPTR]____________________________

Here is a few tips and tricks I've picked up in my travels. Got any good onesof your own? Send 'em in and I may put 'em here with yer name in lights! :P

Abuse the Tactics screen -- it's there for a reason. The rule of thumb isto always spread out the 5-person party to avoid zone attacks, putting thestrongest DEF characters towards the front (Leo & Hiro). Not only is itjust good battle sense to do this, but it makes boss AI more manageable asmost single-target attacks will go towards the nearest enemy repeatedly

    (usually NW-corner person).

Cash isn't always easy to come by, especially for those not inclined tolevel-grinding. Fess up: it's boring and a chore. For those like me, thebest ways to make money are selling old equipment (but not accessories &crests) that's become obsolete, and Life Jewels in particular. Why them? They sell for 3000 silver and are pretty useless in the long run, healingonly 200 to everyone. Whereas Silver Lights are superlative and worthpocketing, those jewels are better off being sold ASAP for some equipment.

Horde Silver Lights. These items which sell for 5000 silver are infinitelyuseful, especially against the storyline's final boss. Silver Lights arealright, but these are actually worth keeping around. A normal stockpilerwill get about 15 if none are used, but keeping 8+ is always a good idea.

White Dragon Protect is a boss-breaker. It protects all allies from oneattack of any kind, and once the attack pattern's signs are known, it's

almost invaluable. The 50 MP tag can be taken care of in a couple ways. One, put the thing on Lemina who has the best MP growth of anyone; Two, buylots of Star Lights and spam them. A player will probably end up doing acombination, honestly, but keep all options open.

Pay attention to the way the enemy is highlighted before an attack. If it'sred, the attack will suck; if it's green, it's super effective. Yellow justmeans the attack is neutral and does normal damage. This should be obviousin terms of damage-dealing, but remember that if an enemy is 'red' againsta status-inflicting attack, it probably isn't susceptible so don't wasteyour time.

Steal from enemies! Lemina's Thieves' Staff is not only useful on principlebut also a way to get free items for safe keeping and, in the case of someduplicate Shiro/Chiro crests, quick cash. It's in the top floor of Vane'sTrial Cave, so don't forget to swipe it after Lemina gives permission! Ishould also mention that in the final dungeon leaving is impossible, andher stealing can be a good way to collect resources (Star Lights!)

Erpy writes: "Some dungeons (Destiny at Dalton, Taben's Peak, Azado Tower,Serak Palace and Red Dragon Cave) allow you to use a statue without themonsters respawning. You can abuse that fact by using your most powerfulattacks to wipe out everything and then restore your mp at the statue."

Erpy writes: "Certain enemies use MP for their specials (like the crystalsin Zophar's Keep, the Crazy Crabs in Zophar's Keep, the Magicians in theBlack Dragon Cave). If you see such an enemy preparing to use their specialskill (like the crazy crab's hit-all skill), have Lemina hit them with magicstealer. She'll replenish her mp while effectively muting the enemy and alsocausing them to waste their turn trying to use a skill they have no mp for."

Erpy writes: "The Dark Eye enemies in Lionhead can be easily killed byHiro's Concussion Sword. It's about the only thing that's effective on them,

  • 8/8/2019 Lunar EBC (Original Version)

    8/63

but it makes a decent alternative to seeking out Chiro Mongrels if youdislike the random appearances of the latter."

Erpy writes: "Althena's Sword becomes an even more kick-ass weapon when Hiroalso has the Goddess Crest equipped. This combination gives Hiro oneadditional attack AND emulates the effect of a Healing Ring (just like inLunar 1)."

Erpy writes: "You mentioned it's always good battle sense to spread outyour party to avoid zone-attacks, but if the enemies in an area don't havezone attacks, there's actually a benefit to crowding your party together.Especially if the critters are faster than your party, bunching up your

party means the enemies bunch up too. If they're fast, you can simply aima Sybillium Sword or Battalion Sword at any monster and watch the attackhit every critter on the screen."

Although as the game progresses more monsters have attack types other thansingle-target, this isn't such a bad idea. Crowding together helps Lemina'sMagic Shield work on more people, and lets enemies crowd around Jean forher Blue Dragon Wave attack. Both of said attacks are "special"-ranged inthe caster's proximity, and aren't as effective on their targets unlessfriends/foes are swarming.

Bakkerkid writes: "I will agree that in normal battle situations the FiendRing is very, very bad and should not be equipped. However, it is a bosskiller. It doesn't matter the boss, just put the ring on and first thingheal. Chances are very good that you will heal first (items usually gofirst, particularly on Jean), or you may have to actually use Chiro crests(combined or with Goddess Crest) to get it. Either way, if you heal, you

now have full HP, resistance to ALL attacks, and room for one more item toequip!

In the final battle against the Star Dragon, equip the Fiend Ring and aHealing Ring. Use an item first turn. Then just sit back and do NOTHINGthe entire battle. At lvl 63, the Dragon could not physically get Hiro'shealth to less than full - the ring even resists the non-elemental attack!"

Running from the enemiesisn't a bad strategy, as all treasures can be collected on the way down -- itwill be 10x easier, guaranteed. Also, the "A" marks on the Blue Spire roomsis a stairway that couldn't be drawn correctly on the map. Oops!

At the penultimate (7F) area when Gwyn splits up momentarily, inspect thenorthern warp tile to meet Lucia. She'll join the party but cannot have heractions chosen by the player. It doesn't matter, since she's so overpoweredthat any enemies will be OHKO'd if they dare stand in her way. Return backdown.

This boss can wreck the Hiro and Gwyn's pretty easily, so make sure the twoare far apart, which will avoid the zone-area attack it has. Gwyn should useFractured Shield a few times to counteract the stat-buffing the boss does, while Hiro spams Poe Sword for better effect. Hiro will definitely be fasterthan the boss, but Gwyn undoubtedly won't; use our speedy ally to cure theold man when the time calls for it. Lucia will hang around the battlefield, but won't participate, and the boss usually leaves her alone anyway -- donot waste any Angel's Tears on her. Make sure that the (usual) target ofthe zone attack guards that turn to avoid souped-up damage! Otherwise, it'sjust debuffing and using Poe Sword. Even if someone is KO'd, they'll get the

She's also the fastest, meaning in a bind, she shouldbe the one to give up her turn to throw some Herbs around. Ronfar should putSaint Litany on all controllable characters, and heal when necessary. At thestart, it only uses its flytrap poisoning attack. The character it choosesto target (usually nearest) will continuously be targeted then on, meanings/he can guard and get by with little agony. I recommend putting Lucia nearit so that Saint Litany can be spread around a lot easier on the characters

    who are more useful.

After enough damage, its midriff shell blows open and gives access to theattack-all technique (~40dmg) -- anticipate it with a Calm Litany. Luckily, its DEF is slightly reduced in this second formation, and it will alternateits two attacks until the 3rd form appears: a topless flower woman! This'llunlock a powerful single-target attack for 70+ damage. It'll alternate fromthe 1st and 3rd attacks and do a seed-spitting attack-all every 6th turnabout. The main target from all these is the PERSON CLOSEST TO PLANTELLA,so as long as healing is anticipated on that person, Saint Litany will justheal the rest naturally. I got by with a Lv 15-16 party and only used oneAngel's Tear, but that was after most people died -- cuttin' it pretty close,I should say!

Now, for the real stuff. Master Lunn runs the town and the dojo, and Jean'stagged along with the party because of him. This boss fight might be the easiest so far...if Hiro and Ronfar had theirequipment properly updated, as directed. The tactics are quite easy, though:Hiro and Leo use Poe sword and Flash Blade (respectively), while Ronfar useshealing magic based on the boss' tactics. At Lv27, our gamblin' priest wasstill slower than the boss, so healing should be anticipated. The physicalwing projectile attack it uses goes off first no matter the speed, and cando about 150+ damage. If Hiro is nearest to the boss (NW corner of Tacticsscreen as per usual), he'll be the main person attacked. If this happens,he should have the Healing Ring for extra help. It may be a little slowergoing, but I recommend having Hiro defend every time the physical attack isaround; Leo should never let up with Flash Blades, since he won't be attackedby anything other than the raining fire attack. Speaking of which, the fiery

rain and zone-attack animations that tip the player off to what attack willbe used are practically identical. Know that the raining fire attack ALWAYSfollows the physical attack.

Saint Litany will help also, but should only be castwhen the boss self-buffs or uses its single-target attack. Lemina should spamFlame Shot normally, and use Dispel Magic & Erase Magic to get rid of WhiteFiend's power-ups. Lucia will go at her own pace, equal parts attacker andnurse. If the usual "spread out to the corners" tactic is taken, make sureLucia is in the middle to draw its single-target attack to her.

The boss' pattern is usually as follows: non-elem field-changer, stat-buff,

water-damage on all, water-damage on one, water-damage on all, repeat. Thismeans the pattern ends with two attack-alls in a row! It may be wise to havesome people defend, while others item heal or anticipate such. This twofercan really ruin a good strategy, so preparation...or at least give Ronfar'sSPD a boost with a crest setup and have him use Recovery Coin (learn: Lv30).Also, its sleep-inducing attack will always act first, unless the doubleChiro crest setup is on a character.

    ---

Afterwards, talk with Nall and get the [White Dragon Crest]. This will giveevery member of the party protection from one magic attack and, surprisesurprise, it will be infinitely useful on coming bosses. From now on, havinga nice supply of Star Lights to suit the huge 50 MP cost should be nice tohave. DO NOT WASTE SILVER LIGHTS IF YOU DON'T HAVE TO, since those should allbe saved for much later. Give Jean the White Dragon Crest since her speed'llact as its own type of protection.

Nall will melt the icebergs nearby and after getting back to the Dragonship, access to the town of Horam in the SW will be possible!

First, she will gain the Blue Dragon Palm and DoppleDance abilities, and use claws (like a monk); this means she cannot equip anyfans. Her other equipment besides the [Iron Claw] will be a [Hawk Armlet],[Gold Hairpin], and [Hawk Wrap]! Jean is now a force to be reckoned with onthe battlefield. Oh, and she gains an extra attack in battle. The dojo masterwill bestow an [Invitation] that gives access to the Zen Dojo in the south. Some [Rubber Boots] can be found in a dojo storage room, also.

Now, for the upcoming tournament, only Jean, Ronfar, and Hiro will fight, sothose three should have priority when it comes to updating equipment. Ourmartial artist will already have optimum equipment, however. Find the ZenDojo by taking the Destiny south...quite simple and obvious, really.

The tournament will begin here by talking with the proctor near the ring. Aman here has his own item shop [SH13] -- if y'don't have any Healing Nuts, get some. There isn't a real boss fight until after winning, so I'll give ashort overview of the build-up matches. Note that the player can leave thearea whenever s/he wishes without suffering any penalties whatsoever.

Dragon Palm should be able to fell 'em. Kinda boring. [819 EXP]

ROUND 2: This time, three 'Flash Ninja' to defeat. Their attack can inflictpoison and they attack twice each, as well as having about twice asmuch HP as the Wolf Guard enemies. Gang up on one and anticipatehealing with Ronfar, if possible -- he IS the weakest link and maybe KO'd as an easy target. [1017 EXP].

ROUND 3: Final round: 3 Shadow Assassins. They have a
