WY Livestock Import Regulations For 4-H Swine

The Wyoming Livestock Board has policies in place regarding the importation of animals into the State of Wyoming to comply with federal regulations. They can be found here- http://soswy.state.wy.us/Rules/RULES/8634.pdf.

Swine (over 4 months of age) need: 1. ICVI with permit number; 2. Official individual identification; 3. Negative Blood test for Brucellosis and Pseudorabies or State-ments from the veterinarian written on the ICVI “I have exam-ined the swine represented on this CVI at their premises of origin and attest that there is no risk of exposure to feral swine.” See the list of state requirements on page 5 of this newsletter. Swine (under 4 months of age) need: 1. ICVI with permit number; 2. Official individual identification or statement written on ICVI from the veterinarian , “Exhibition swine to be identified on arrival,” 3. Tag numbers must then be written on the ICVI upon application, and a copy sent to the Wyoming Livestock Board within seven (7) days, by 4-H member or parents. This tag is the Wyoming State Fair tag. 4.Negative Blood test for Brucellosis and Pseudorabies or Written state-ments from the Vet “I have examined the swine represented on this CVI at their premises of origin and attest that there is no risk of exposure to feral swine.” See the list of state requirements on page 5 of this newsletter.

You can have the vet writing the ICVI call 307.777.7515 or

307.857.4140 to get an import number. The ICVI also needs to

list all of the individual tag numbers on it.

With spring right around the corner; we have many 4-H trips coming up. All 4-H Leaders that will be participating as chap-eron, needs additional training. COUNTY FAIR CHANGES

LIVESTOCK ONLY—If you do not enter by the deadline of August 1 at Midnight, Entries received after the deadline will be as-sessed $100 per family late fee to enter into fair. Contact the Show Coordinator or one of the two Livestock Fair Board mem-bers to pay late fee. (Must show some entry in ShoWorks to waive fee).

All species minimum weight will stay the same as last year. Beef 1000 lbs., Swine 225 lbs., Sheep 100 lbs., mini beef 500 lbs., and goats 50 lbs.

All livestock will need to be in place by Tuesday, August 7, 2018 by 3 pm.

Swine must be tagged with the number on the back of the ear. The exception is if the pig has floppy ears and the post will scratch the eye.

Swine barn will close during swine weigh-ins and only the exhibi-tor and one parent will be allowed in the barn.

If your stall is not cleaned after fair, you will not be assigned one next year.

Southwest WY Snowball Show—May 19 The show will be held on May 19, 2018, in Evanston at 241 County Road. This is for sheep & goats. There will be mar-ket, breeding & showmanship. Intermountain Livestock Judges’ Train-

ing—May 10-12 The Intermountain Livestock Judges’ Training will be held on May 10-12, 2018 in Spanish Fork, Utah. The 2018 Present-ers are Adult Track - Jake Franke and Youth Track - Colby Hales. Changes to Wyoming 4-H for 2017-2018

year by Johnathan Despain As promised from the State 4-H Team meeting in Riverton and the feedback from you from a conference call, here are changes to the 4-H contests and events for 2017-18 4-H year:

Judging contests that involve oral reasons (Horse, Meats,

Livestock, Produce) will change to: Seniors will give 4 sets of reasons, Intermediates will give 2 sets of reasons and answer 2 sets of questions, Juniors will have the option to give one set of reasons (with the lowest possible score being a 35) and answer 3 or 4 questions classes depending on if they chose to give reasons or not.

Only Junior and Senior teams can be identified for competi-

tions (Livestock Skill-A-Thon, Hippology, Food Cook-Off, Cake Decorating and Dog Skill-A- Thon). However, each county can enter unlimited number of team designations.

Food Cook-Off will now have teams options of 2-5 people per

team. The reason for this is so that our team numbers match up with the National Food Challenge. The winning senior team will be offered the opportunity to compete at the Nation-al Food Challenge in Texas.

Starting with the 2019 Western National 4-H Round-Up, at-

tending will be an option for all senior aged (14-18) Wyoming 4-H members. There will be no addition financial support pro-vided for individuals who want to go as delegates, but they can choose to attend using a registration process like CWF and LWF.

WSF- Wyoming 4-H will only have one sheep showmanship

contest instead of two (all three age divisions will be the same). Sheep exhibitors can enter a breeding or market ani-mal in showmanship, but will all be judged in one showman-ship class (with three age divisions). Wording will be added to the WSF to indicate and support the differences in showing styles should not be considered in placing and communicate that with the judge at the contest.

WSF-Attempt to move the judging for Fashion Show contest-

ants to be on Friday and Saturday and move the Fashion Revue (Show) to Saturday night.

4-H Club News— Lucky Clover 4-H Club The Lucky Clover 4-H club meet the 4th Monday of each month in the Afton Civic Center Library Room from 7-8 pm. Krazi Kritterz 4-H Club The Krazi Kritterz sheep group held a meeting on Tuesday, March 7 at 7:00 pm at the Afton Civic Center. Members attended: Brysen B., Rylee B., Haylee D., Kamden J., Ty J., Chloe R., and Rylynne M. We elected our presidency for this year. Kamden president, Chloe vice president, Brysen secretary, and Haylee as reporter. Kamden then led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance and the 4-H Pledge. The club also discussed lamb selection and what to look for when picking out your lamb. Report submitted by Haylee D.

Brog Bunch The Brog Bunch 4-H Club met on Jan 9, 2018. In attend-ance: Ky, Bo, & Quinn S., Carter, McKenna, McKayla, & Delancy B. Welcomed Simpson’s to the group and talked about the possibility of other Brog family joining. Talked about 4-H application that needs to be filled out to join a new group. Talked about the possibility of Darnell and/or Amy Simpson becoming a registered leader. Talked about past and future service projects the club could do. Report submit-ted by Ky S.

The Brog Bunch 4-H Club met on 3-21-18 at 5:00-5:45 pm In attendance: Delancy B., Carter B., Beckham B., Gunner B., Bridger B., and Ky S. Carter conducted the meeting. Ky-mora led the 4-H pledge. We appointed officers: President- Carter; Vice- McKenna; 2nd Vice- McKayla; Secretary- Ky; Treasurer- Bridger. Bo S. in charge of organizing the service project at the Thayne Food Bank. We talked about how to keep a record book and how it’s scored; other available 4-H opportunities; educated new 4-H’ers on pig care and pig se-lection. Meeting adjourned. Report submitted by Ky S.

of Friday, April 27. State 4-H Meats Judging Contest will be on the morning of Saturday, April 28. WY State Horse Camp will be held in June in Douglas, WY. 4-H Foundation 3-D Archery Shoot will be held in June in Pinedale, WY Citizen Washington Focus Conference will be held June 16-23 in Washington DC. This conference is for senior 4-H members. Applications are due March 2. Showcase Showdown will be held June 26-28, 2018 at the UW campus in Laramie. Registration deadline is May 29. State Shooting Sports Match will be held July 5-7 in Douglas, WY. Registration is due June 18. Leadership Washington Focus will be held July 16-20 in Washington DC. This conference is for kids in grades 6-8. Applications are due March 2. National 4-H Congress is held just after Thanksgiving Day each November in Atlanta, GA. Applications will be due by July 1 to the Wyoming State 4-H Office. Interviews will be held online in mid-July over a video conference call.

Swine Tag and Picture Instructions for 4HOnline

1. Once you are logged onto 4honline.com, select the family member who will be showing the animal. Select the Animals/Livestock tab at the top of the page.

2. Use the drop-down menu to select Market Swine and click Add Ani-mal. A new animal will need to be added for each individual pig.

*Note – only the market swine option is populated to receive in-formation.

3. Please be sure to read and under-stand the information page that will appear after you select Add Animal.

*Note – you will be issued tags AFTER the Extension Office has received a copy of your bill of sale.

*Note – all information must be in the 4honline system by 5pm on June 1st. The program will auto-matically turn this option off after this time.

4. Fill in the information requested. Only the first three questions and the pictures are required.

5. Upload a picture of the READABLE tag, left side, and right side.

6. Don’t forget to SAVE!!!!

***For Family Floater pigs – pigs pur-chased as an extra in case someone in the family has one that dies – these can be transferred to another family member later in the summer ONLY if they are designated as the floater ahead of time. some of their own, too.

Cent$ible Nutrition Program - Kemmerer Area - Classes are ongoing. The classes will be fun hands-on classes about food and nutrition, food safety, the new MyPlate guide, and other food topics. The class is hands-on cooking with a great cookbook. The class is free to those who qualify. If you are interested in participating in a class or have any questions, please contact Beth Barker at the Uinta Co. Extension Office at 307-783-0570. Physical Activity Physical activity is an essential part of a healthy lifestyle. Being active is important because it strengthens your bones and muscles, can help you reach or maintain a healthy

weight, and decreases your risk for heart disease, type 2 diabetes, high

blood pressure, and high cholesterol. Be-ing active can also boost your mood and energy. Any activity that increases your heart rate counts as physical activity. To get the most benefit, physical activity should be either moderate or vigorous. Moderate activities increase your breathing so you can still talk but not easily. Vigorous activi-ties make it hard to talk without stopping. Moderate physical activities include walking briskly, slow bicy-cling, gardening, water aerobics, and golf. Vigorous activities include jogging, walking quickly, fast bicycling, swimming, and competitive sports. Adults should be active for at least 150 minutes at the moder-ate level or 75 minutes at the vigorous level each week. Aim to be active every day. The more active you are, the more your health will benefit. To help get enough physical activity each week try being active for 10 minutes at a time several times a day. Take the stairs at work, go for a walk after din-ner, follow an exercise video on YouTube, or play a game outside with your kids.

Spicy Buffalo Grilled Chicken

Sandwich or Salad Ingredients:

4 thawed chicken breasts (bone in or boneless)

1 1/2 cups of your favorite hot sauce (bottled or homemade)

1 thinly sliced cucumber

2 Tablespoons Bleu cheese

1 cup fresh baby spinach—more if making salads

Carrot and celery sticks

Ranch dressing OR Bleu Cheese dressing

If making sandwiches: 4 sandwich buns or hoagie rolls

Directions: 1. Place chicken in shallow, glass baking dish, pour hot sauce

over the chicken, cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight. The chicken is most flavorful if it is turned once about half way through.

2. Heat grill to medium temperature. Slowly grill the chicken until an internal temperature of 165 degrees is achieved. Allow chicken to rest under a tent of foil after removing from grill for 7 minutes.

3. To serve as a sandwich: Slice the chicken breasts, layer meat on the bun, top with bleu cheese, sliced cucmber, spin-ach and dressing to taste.

4. To serve as a salad: Dice the chicken, place on a bed of spinach, add bleu cheese and sliced cucumbers. Top with dressing as desired.

5. Enjoy with a side of carrot and celery sticks with Ranch or
