Dont smell the chemical directly</p></li><li><p>Handling ChemicalsAlways double check the label on chemical bottles before removing any of the chemicalTake only as much as you needNever return unused chemicals to their original containersNever remove chemicals or other materials from the lab</p></li><li><p>Handling Equipment/GlasswareNever handle broken glass with your bare handsUse a brush and dustpan to clean up broken glassPlace broken glass in the designated glass disposal container</p></li><li><p>Handling Equipment/GlasswareNever use chipped, cracked or dirty glasswareDo not immerse hot glassware in cold water as it may shatterIf you dont understand how to use a piece of equipment, ask the instructor for help</p></li><li><p>Heating SubstancesExercise extreme caution when using a gas burnerNever leave a lit burner unattendedNever leave anything that is being heated or is visibly reacting unattendedTurn off burner or hot plate when not in use</p></li><li><p>Heating SubstancesYou will be instructed in proper methods of heating/boiling liquids in test tubesNever point the open end of a test tube being heated at yourself or othersNever look into a container that is being heated</p></li><li><p>Heating SubstancesHeated metals and glass remain very hot for a long timeThey should be set to cool and picked up with cautionUse tongs or heat-protective gloves if necessary</p></li></ul>
