INSIDE This Issue Only the Best As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you; Isaiah 66:13 Being a parent is hard work. For those of you who’ve been there firsthand, you’re probably thinking that’s perhaps the biggest understatement you’ve ever read. For those of you who may not have children of your own, but cared for children or spent enough time in the company of them, it doesn’t take much to recognize that caring for them is tough. You want what’s best. You concern yourself with their protection, education, nourishment, and overall care. At times, it’s the most exhausting, exhilarating, challenging, rewarding life experience one could ever imagine. All of this information leads me to a single observation I share with you now. My wife is a great mom. Again, understatement, right? If you spend enough time watching Susan and Grayson together, it’s no big secret that she’s good at what she does. Oftentimes, throughout the course of a single day, I find myself marveling at the wealth of information she can share and care she’s able to administer. It’s cause enough for me to thank God she’s in my life as we care for this little fella together. I’m grateful for the opportunity to watch their relationship grow and how it’s only brought all of us closer together. What I see when she takes care of Grayson is some innate level of love that, I believe, is an expression of love placed within us from a loving Creator. It isn’t terribly surprising to find feminine imagery ascribed to God in scripture. We grow accustomed to referring to God in a predominantly masculine sense that we can forget the Creator of all things also bears characteristics that we see lived out through the love and care we receive from our earthly mothers. Whether it is a biological mother, adopted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, or friend, we have those women in our lives that truly embody those Godly traits of love, care, and compassion. It’s a glimpse into the life of the divine parent who saw fit to share love with all of creation, the progenitor who administers care, bestows compassion, extends grace, teaches mercy, and shows love in all manner of being. After all, the defining trait of God that scripture repeats again and again is love, love modeled from a variety of aspects. So, when I have opportunity to spend time in the company of my wife and child, I see love, love that nearly defies description. It’s a type of love you have to experience because words just cannot convey the depth of commitment and dedication. It’s love that comes natural, but also that requires work. Hard, laboring, exhausting work, because you want only the best. We see this type of love described throughout scripture, but it’s only when we experience it at work in our lives that we fully grasp some measure of God’s love. Those moments in life that remind us that we still have elements of love to experience, for all its gravity and meaning, help us comprehend just a bit more about this divine, majestic being who brought all we know and care for into existence, the divine parent who wants only the best for us as the beloved children. — Trent Sessoms a monthly newsletter of Knightdale Baptist Church P1 Only the Best P2 May Anniversaries and Birthdays P2 Baptist Knights P2 Childrens Time Schedule for May P3 May Calendar P4 Childrens Worship Schedules for May P4 Love Connection P4 Ushers for May P4 List of Deacons P5 Youth News P5 Fill the BarrelSunday P6 Undie Sunday P6 Spring Bazaar & BBQ Needs P7 Wednesday Night Fellowship Meal P7 Backpack Buddies P7 Baby Shower P7 On-Line Giving P8 KBC Spring Bazaar P8 Staff Volume 12, Issue 5

Only the Best

As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you;

Isaiah 66:13 Being a parent is hard work. Please note: If for some reason you are not available to

help on the day that you volunteered to work, we ask that you

please don’t forget to find a replacement for yourself so there

is adequate coverage during the worship service. Also, if you

have a change in the schedule for the children’s nursery or

children’s church, please contact the monthly coordinator so

that the change can be made prior to the printing of the

worship bulletin. However, any permanent changes in the

schedule should continue to be handled by the lead coordinator.

Thank you for all your help.

Youth News

A WORD OF THANKS

First, the youth would like to say a big THANK YOU to

everyone who helped support our fundraising efforts. Between the pancake breakfast and the car wash we

raised $700 with your help! That amount is more than enough to entirely send two of our three youth on our mission trip this summer. Thanks, everyone!

SERVICE OPPORTUNITY

Saturday, May 2nd the youth is sponsoring a service opportunity to

the Baptist Children’s Home at Oak Ranch in Sanford, NC. Opportunities to help abound as

they will need folks to landscape, paint, build, clean, pray, and more. This is a youth sponsored event, but is open to all

ages within the church. We hope to partner with those who have more experience in helping in these ways. The youth would gain valuable skills and benefit from positive interactions with other age groups. A waiver form is necessary to participate, so contact

Joe (252-531-6812) today if interested. Please consider joining us to help.

CAMPING

We are rescheduling our camping trip for Saturday, May 30th.

Weather permitting (again) we will enjoy a night under the stars. Join us as we worship, fish, pitch tents, have a bonfire, roast weenies and marshmallows. It should be a good time for us all.

More info to follow. If you are interested contact Joe (252-531-6812).

Spring Bazaar and BBQ May 16th will be here soon, but it isn’t too late to buy your BBQ tickets (don’t forget to purchase some for your friends and neighbors).

Volunteers are still needed to help set up and take down, and to help throughout the day of the event. Donations are still needed as well for the silent and live auction, craft shop, bake shop and baked goods for the BBQ plates. Finally, monetary donations may also be made to offset the cost of the food for the BBQ. As you can see, there is a way for everyone to help us prepare, and to enjoy the day when it arrives.

The Family Life Center will be open all day Friday, May 15th, for you to drop off your auction donations, craft items and baked goods.

If you have questions or can help, please contact Lois McCoy at 919-266-1045 or [email protected], or ask at the BBQ and Bazaar Table on Sundays or Wednesdays.
