Early Learning Programs Primary

Pre-Prep MorningThe beautiful weather contributed to a wonderful morning

of activities last week as Noah’s Ark welcomed children and their families into the centre to experience the pre-prep program first-hand. Current pre-preps played alongside our visitors, sharing the excitement and challenge of being a ‘King’s Pre-Preppie’.

Please mention to any friends with children eligible for pre-prep next year (4 years of age by 30th June 2013) the need to contact the Noah’s Ark office (55877640) for further enrolment details.

Parenting with Power

Scripture of the week: Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Philippians 2:4

Children Love Heroes

Isn’t it interesting how children are drawn to heroes? We think they love heroes for a good reason. Heroes are characterised by four things: they do what’s right, deal with wrongs, are honest, and they care about others. Children love heroes because God has placed a conscience inside each child that prompts them in the same four ways: to do what’s right, deal with wrongs, be honest, and care about others. Children are heroes in training right now in your family. God uses ordinary people to accomplish His will and it starts in the small things of life. We read in the Bible about David. David was a hero when he fought Goliath. But his hero training started much earlier. David was a hero in the small stuff. He took care of sheep and learned responsibility. He fought off a bear and a lion and learned courage. He worked hard to practise his harp so that he could get a job working in the palace. Right now, your child can be a hero in the small things at home. Heroes practise in daily life by taking initiative. You might try this. Ask your child to see something around the house that needs to be fixed or made right. It might be that dishes are left in the living room, a sad baby needs to be cheered up, or the laundry needs to be folded. Once your child identifies something, then tell the child that this is the first sign of a hero. Heroes can see problems. The second sign of a hero is doing something about it. Challenge your child to take action to solve the problem and then praise the growing hero qualities. Heroes can see what needs to be done and then take initiative to solve the problem.

Strategy for the week: Encourage your children to be thinking of others and trying to see where help is needed without being asked. Reward when they react positively to doing something on their own initiative. Develop that real hero status in them where they are thinking of others.

SecondarySimple but Powerful

You will love this; I know I did. I just need to place it where I will see it often.

The Greatest . . .The highest aim in life - To know God and do His will! The most enriching good habit - complimenting others The most destructive bad habit - worry The greatest joy - giving The greatest loss - loss of self-respect

The most satisfying work - helping others The ugliest personality trait - selfishness The most endangered species - dedicated leaders Our greatest natural resource - our youth The ugliest look - a frown

The greatest ‘shot in the arm’ - encouragement The greatest problem to overcome - fear The most effective sleeping pill - peace of mind The most crippling failure disease - excuses The surest way to limit God - unbelief

The most powerful forces in life - love The most dangerous piranha - a gossiper The Greatest Life-Giver - the Creator The world’s most incredible computer - the brain The worst thing to be without - hope

The deadliest weapon - the tongue The two most power-filled words - “I can” The greatest asset - faith The most worthless emotion - self-pity The most beautiful attire - a SMILE!

The most prized possession - self esteem The most powerful channel of communication - PRAYER The most contagious spirit - enthusiasm The most urgent need - SALVATION The greatest attribute of Jesus - obedience

The GREATEST - GOD[Author Unknown]

Happy parenting. I wish you Jesus. A choice to make. Remember God’s esteem. Ideal Valentine. I’ll keep you in my prayers. Why/How. The Greatest. The joy of motherhood. Give thanks. Pray. Thankful hearts are happy hearts. Trust the Lord. Know who you are in Christ. Nurture compassion. Have a chuckle. Attitudes are habits.

~ Rhonda Bevan, Head of Secondary

GeneralStep By Step With JesusQuote from ‘Walk in Faith’ by Ray McCauley

But Jesus said to him, “Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?” Luke 22:48

Don’t be swayed by circumstances. We have been criticised by those who remark that they knew a person who was discipled by Rhema and attended church for say, two years, but who is now backslidden and very worldly. Is there a biblical type of this?

Judas walked with Jesus for three years and yet, ultimately, he betrayed the One he had loved. When people get a bad attitude they open the door for deception and for familiar spirits to come in. Some have a bad attitude because the church does not recognise them and their so-called ‘ministry’. These people are only too keen to tell you just which ministry they have, whether they are a prophet, evangelist or whatever, but when asked why they don’t pray for the man in the street, they deem themselves too important for that level of work; they want to begin their public ministry at the national convention!

Begin where you are and let Jesus take you step by step. Be humble and allow the Greater One to work through you.

If you know that you are wrong, then repent, change your attitude and move on with Jesus.

Track Talk

Well our track season is starting to wind down for the vast ma-jority of our team (competition wise) with APS well and truly over, but for some of the lucky ones, the major representative level competitions are now in full swing.

Last Tuesday (28th August), we had our primary team members compete at the South Coast Regional Athletics meet. In terms of the representative progressions, these students had to get through the King’s School carnival.....then the district “A” schools comp....and THEN get through the district south championship in order to compete at this regional meet. This competition is also the stepping-stone, which then leads on to the QLD State Championships. It’s a very tough meet, with schools stretching from Coolangatta to Logan, and then out to Beenleigh and back through to Tamborine Mountain and Jimboomba, so it’s a huge area with a massive number of schools. Our team members were representing not only our school, but also our district (Gold Coast South) against the other three districts within our south coast region. All up we had 17 of our students compete, with 2 students unfortunately having to withdraw because of illness. Out of our 17 that did compete, everyone did a fantastic job, with the vast majority of students exceeding, or coming awfully close to exceeding their personal bests. But on a special note, we had eight students that qualified to now go on to compete at the state championships (four more students than last year!!!), which will be held up in Cairns, 19-20 October. For those who have not been to compete at the track up there, I can tell you one thing.......ITS A VERY FAST TRACK, and at that time of the year, there is almost always very favourable tail winds (for the sprinters that is), so l look forward to our students doing personal bests on the track up there!!!

As for our secondary students, a number of them will have their chance to also shine at the South Coast Secondary Championships next week (11-12 September). I look forward to seeing how these students go, and I am confident we will get more students progress onto the QLD champs from this meet. The qualification process for these students is as follows:

To gain automatic selection to state championships, students must:• Come 1st in their respective event OR• Be a finalist (top 8) and also exceed the QLD qualifying

standards in their respective eventsSo this system is, in my opinion, not as cut-throat as for those

in the primary team who must be within top 3 ONLY. I really encourage those students who will be competing at this meet for the first time, to not let the glamour of the event get you too nervous.

Well for this week around, this is me signing off, and I look forward to reporting in after the secondary team members do our school proud next week.

Yours in Athletics,

~ James Clark, King’s Head Athletics/Cross Country Coach
