Early Learning ProgramsParenting with Power
Scripture of the week: Intel-ligent children listen to their parents; foolish children do their own thing.
Proverbs 13:1
Don’t Take The Bait
Be careful when your children bait you and try to draw you into an argument. If you are easily drawn into an altercation with your child, it may be an in-dication that you need to do some work on your own anger.
It is amazing that most children have the ability to find those buttons that will get us upset and some parents take the bait. A child may say, “You never let me have a snack,” and the parent all of a sudden is ready to fight. Or the child says, “Dad wouldn’t do it this way,” or “I don’t want to go to school,” and Mum may take this attack personally. Children know what it is that gets us going, how to play our emotions. If you find those ‘opportunities to argue’ irresistible or you might even enjoy a good argument, then you need to step back and deal with your own anger. Chil-dren who engage in manipulations like that definitely need to be disciplined but they don’t need your an-ger. There is a big difference. Your anger points out a problem. That’s what anger is good for. It tells you something is wrong. But anger isn’t good for solving your child’s problems.
Strategy for the week: When you are tempted to get drawn into an argument, step back and evaluate the situation. Maybe it is time to change the buttons. Often, your children need limits placed on the way they are relating to you, the way they honour you. Be careful to respond to your children with appropriate discipline instead of reacting in a way that joins into their ‘childish’ arguments.
~ In His service, Klaus Knobloch and Rosemary Whincop
New Toys Fire Children’s Imaginations
A recent “shopping spree” has resulted in some in-viting new equipment for Noah’s Ark children. Home corner additions include strollers, ironing boards, irons and clothes lines. Children’s imaginations are also be-ing stretched as they engage with fire, police and am-bulance play toys, as well as wonderful wooden train sets. Have a look for our exciting new toys next time you are in!

SecondaryI found this poem recently and feel compelled to share it
with you. Perhaps it will help you or someone you know. In times of trial it is sometimes difficult to not worry, to not fret for we are only human after all. However, we need to acknowledge God’s faithfulness and almighty power. We need to remind ourselves of His love for us and that He is the author and perfecter of our faith. May you be blessed and uplifted by the words that follow –
Too Blessed To StressedI’m too blessed to be stressed, too anointed to be disappointed
I refuse to be discouraged, To be sad or to cry.
I refuse to be downheartedAnd here’s the reason why:
I have a God who is almighty;Who is sovereign and supreme;
I have a God who loves me, And I am on His team.
He is all wise and powerful;Jesus is his Name;
though everything else is changeable, My God remains the same.
I refuse to be defeated! My eyes are on my GOD!
He has promised to be with me, as through this life I trod.
I am looking past my circumstances, to Heaven’s throne above.
My prayers have reached the heart of God. I am resting in His Love.
I give thanks to Him in everything. My eyes are on His face.
The battle is His; the victory is mine;He will help me win the race!
I repeat, “I’M TOO BLESSED TO BE STRESSED!”~ Eric Geoffrey Plott ~
It’s a great poem, isn’t it? Some people really have the gift of working with words and using that gift to inspire and encourage others. That brings me to another point – we should all ensure that we use the gifts that the Lord has given each one of us.
Happy parenting. And so it is. Maintain good relation-ships. Bring heaven to earth. Fear prevents, faith prevails. God bless. True meaning of Easter. Celebrate the risen Christ. Happy Mother’s Day to all our mums. Find the joy. Defend the Australian way of life. Encourage goal setting. Be thankful. Bloom where you are. Develop resilience. Too blessed to be stressed. ~ Rhonda Bevan, Head of Secondary

“Key Women”… A ministry of King’s Christian Centre
Lord of the HarvestQuote from Power New Testament (Matthew 9:35 - 10:42)
Jesus so far in His ministry had recruited disciples, taught and performed miracles. At the end of chapter 9 we see Jesus very upset as he observed His people who were help-less and without someone to lead them safely. A weak anal-ogy could be a gifted athlete who has no encouragement, guidance or coaching and is spoiling their health by stupid and poor training. Jesus is concerned about His people and urges prayer to His Father, the Lord of the harvest, to send out workers. It is no coincidence that in the next passage we see Jesus training and mobilizing His top guys to do ministry.

EDUCATION TAX REFUND For Parents -The Australian Government has established the Education Tax
Refund (ETR) to help some families meet the costs of school education through assistance with certain education expenses.
School fees include potentially eligible expenses which are not shown as separate items on fee invoices. We have analysed the components within the consumable fees charged and the costs relating to potentially eligible items are listed on the ta-ble below.
King’s Christian College can not and does not provide finan-cial or taxation advice. Parents able to claim the ETR will need to seek their own independent advice in relation to whether a claim incorporating these amounts can be made in the current taxation year.
For further information about the ETR, please visit www.educationtaxrefund.gov.au, http://www.ato.gov.au/content/ 00192105.htm, phone the Australian Tax Office on 132861 or speak with your taxation or financial adviser.

TXT4U SCHOOLS Behind the Bid Competition
King’s is currently participating in the Gold Coast’s bid for the 2018 Commonwealth Games and we want you to be a part of it.
Simply by collecting Gold Coast Bulletin and TXT4U mast-heads off the paper’s front cover each day and dropping them off to school admin or the main library, you can help support this bid and give our school the chance to win one of five flat-screen TVs!!
We love this competition and it would be fantastic to get as much support from the parents of King’s as we can. The comp runs until the start of September and you can hand in the mastheads each week or all together if easier.
Tuckshop:Tuckshop has an exciting new menu this term. Some prices have increased so be sure to download or ask
at the tuckshop for the new menu. Also remember you can easily order online by going to
www.metrocanteens.com.au and follow the link.
Important Reminder from Surfside BusesRe: Wed 17th August
Please be advised that as a result of Brisbane Show Day being gazetted as a “student free day” for the Gold Coast State schools, as previous years, Surf-side Buslines School services will not operate on the Wednesday 17th August 2011.
If your school is open on that day, as a precaution
and to avoid confusion, I would strongly recommend that you remind all students and parents of such in-formation so other safe travel arrangements to and from school can be made.
Please feel free to contact me if more information was needed.

Cyber-Safety CornerDo we really know what our children are doing in the
cyber world? Some helpful hints to think over are:• The whole family turn off your mobile at an agreed time ie. 9pm.• Keep all family mobiles overnight in a central point ie. a box on your kitchen worktop.• Do not allow your child to keep any of their electronic devices in their room overnight.• Check your child has not got up after initially going to bed, to then take their electronic devices into their room.• Have all computers in a central open area in the house.• Befriend your child on their Facebook page so you know what is going on in their lives.• Have ‘those’ conversations about their Facebook page.• Keep bedroom/office doors open.• Be open in advance about checking your child’s computer history logs and mobile phone text records.• Some teenagers wait until mum and dad have gone to bed and then play computer games, or text friends through the night. This obviously results in poor sleep patterns and lower concentration when trying to do school work.
An interesting cyber video to view on Youtube is titled :- Consequences: Assembly for 11 16 year olds.Or alternatively type this into your Youtube search http://youtube/hK5OeGeudBM

PrimaryPrimary Rugby Heroes
Xavier Toia recently took part in the Gold Coast Primary
School Rugby Union Tournament. It is held every year during the second week of the Term 2 holidays. They were placed first in the tournament after beating Jandowae, Charleville, Roma, Pittsworth and Ipswich in the finals (the team having given away only two tries in the tournament and keeping Ipswich at zero in the final). The tournament is run over five days and was held on the Gold Coast, the first time in its 55 year history. Xavier represented King’s on this representa-tive team.

The following students have now qualified for the State Athletics Carnival:
Madison Price – long jumpRaelene Stevens - long jump, high jump, discusTyson Martin – 200m Xavier Toia – discusCongratulations students, we wish you every success.
Xavier was also a King’s representative on the APS Rug-by team along with Demarcus Cleverly, Craig Hales and Brayden Splatt. Games were held during Term 2 with the fi-nal game held at Ormiston College in Week 1 of Term 3. The final score was 53 - 10 to the APS team. These players have worked hard under Mr Callander (Year 7 rugby coach) and have him to thank for their consistent form. The APS Rugby Union team is now undefeated for this year, an outstanding effort. Many thanks go to Mr Mick Skehan, from St Stephens College, for training and managing the APS team.
