Council Highlights JUNE 2017 NEWSLETTER
These are some of the draft resolutions passed at the May 18, 2017 regular council meeting:
To pass the 2017 Tax Rate Bylaw #502-17 To order 4, 6 yard waste bins at $740 plus GST for the
celebration weekend To purchase t-shirts for the celebration weekend at
approximately $1,200 plus GST To appoint 2 new members Kari Fox-Newby and Ken
Bullock to the Intermunicipal Assessment Review Board for a term of 3 years
To approve and sign the amending agreement for the Municipal Sustainability Initiative (MSI) grant program; which extends the program for 2 years
To accept the quote of $2,300.10 plus GST from Young’s Tree Care for tree removal and chipping along the highway at Irene Parlby Park
To accept the estimate of $2,362.50 including GST from Pinnacle Welding for fabrication and painting of 15 metal picnic tables
To approve Deputy Mayor Dennis Steil’s travel & meeting expenses of $2,117.00 from January 9-May 10, 2017
To approve Public Works Foreman Cal MacAhonic’s travel expenses of $411.00 from December 4, 2016-May 14, 2017
The next Regular council meeting: June 6, 2017 @ 7:00 pm. If you have a concern that you would like addressed by council and wish to make a presentation, please contact the Village office at least one week prior to the meeting to fill out a delegation form. All meetings are open to the public.

2017 Property Tax and Assessment Notices were mailed May 31, 2017. Please pay your property taxes on or before July 31, 2017 to avoid a 12% penalty, pursuant to the Unpaid Taxes Bylaw #451-11.

Attention Heisler Compost Site Users: The Compost Site, located across the highway at Main Street, is now
permanently closed. Users are reminded that there is a compost bin at the
recycling station for yard waste only. Composters are encouraged to make use of
the bin.

SUMMER IS HERE! The Campground is OPEN
Book a site at the Heisler sports and campgrounds at Irene Parlby Park. The Village of
Heisler has 10 serviced camp sites.
Rates for Campground sites:
Full service - $24.00/night, $144.00/week, $624.00/mo
Power only - $18.00/night, $108.00/week, $468.00/mo
Park Only - $15.00/night, $90.00/week, $390.00/mo

Our library is open every Wednesday 9-12 and 1-6p.m. There are
no membership fees. Once you have your membership you can go
online to [email protected]. Books requested from
other libraries will carry that libraries fines when returned late, so
please renew them on line or at our library on time.
The Heisler library is a proud member of Parkland Regional Library system, a cooperative of 50 public libraries
across central Alberta. With your library membership, you are a member of 50 other unique libraries and have
access to their services too.
The Country Register is always available at the library. This paper is published by
our local Ruth Burke. Her editorial titled ‘Dear Reader’ is always enticing.
Is anyone interested in joining the Heisler Library Board? New
members are needed. Meetings are approximately 4 times per year at
the library. Contact Val Volk, board chair or any other board
member…. Karen Wolbeck, Janice Badry, Deanna Lunde, Kelly
Williams or Deb Fell.
The season for gardening is in full swing. We have an extensive
selection of horticulture books on our shelves. Any book or DVD you
wish to request can be ordered from other libraries province wide.
We still have two remaining children story time evenings. The last
Wednesday of May and June at the library from 6:30 – 7:30 pm.

Great News!!! ATB Heisler is Re-opening! Effective June 6, the ATB agency will be reopening. We will be at the Heisler Seniors Centre, temporarily, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 AM to 12:00 Noon for all your daily banking needs. We are working on a permanent location for August. We will keep everyone informed as developments arise. ATB would like to thank everyone for their continued patronage and understanding during this time.
