We have a new shrine devoted to all those prayers of gratitude. Some suggestions for

these prayers are Birthdays, Anniversaries, Sacra-ments, Birth of a Baby, Graduation, Gratitude for Healing, or a General Gratitude Prayer. To submit a prayer, go to the St. John Vianney website sjvhh.org and look for the button "Book of Gratitude". Fill out the form. If you wish, the prayer request can be added to the video that will be shown after our livestream Masses on Sunday at 8:00 and 10:00 am.

We invite you to join us for our weekly sessions to learn how God may be calling you on your

journey of faith. These gatherings are for “inquirers” and are open to everyone who is interested in learning more about the richness of our Catholic faith and tradition.

RCIA sessions are held on Tuesdays from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm (go to our website for more information). Our first session is scheduled on September 7th and is a Night of Welcome. This session is an evening to learn about the RCIA process, our Priests, the RCIA Team and other fellow Inquirers. We look forward to meeting you there. Baptismal Ministry Couples help prepare parents & God parents of children to be baptized. If you are interested in this ministry call Mary Ellen 626-330- 7635. Bereavement Ministry works with families who have lost a loved one and offers assistance for the day of the funeral. Contact the Corpus Christi Center for more information. Eucharistic Ministry - if you are 18 years or older, participate regularly in church life, and wish to distribute the Eucharist, please call Maria Cheng 626- 252-4296. FEAST OF FAITH The Preface Dialogue “Lift up your hearts.” “We lift them up to the Lord.” “Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.” “It is right to give him thanks and praise.” With this ancient dialogue we enter the Eucharistic Prayer, the heart of the Mass. These venerable words have been part of the Christian liturgy almost from the beginning—by the time of Hippolytus of Rome (c. 215) they were already fixed in the liturgy. Several times during the Mass the priest has invited us to pray. There is something different here. We are invited to be “lifted up,” to ascend, to climb the Lord’s mountain, as it were, to go to a new place for this most solemn part of the Mass. And we are invited to a new frame of mind, a sense of joy, of focused dedication: our hearts must not be cast down, but lifted up, and lifted to the Lord. Why?
