Parish Mission Statement
We the people of San Antonio
parish strive to be a community of
faith, hope, and love. We find our
identity and mission in Jesus Christ
and His Gospel. We celebrate our
life as Catholic Christians in word,
worship, and service. By recognizing
our baptism, we accept our call to
personal renewal and reach out with
the gospel message to families and
individuals, extending an invitation to
fellowship with us.

that person rise, even from death, as did the little girl in today’s Gospel passage. Again we raise our voices and ask, “Why?” At moments such as these, let us make the prayer of the psalmist our own: “Hear, O Lord, and have pity on me; O Lord, be my helper.” Let us pray that our mourning will one day be turned into dancing. Today we encounter readings that draw us into the mystery of suffering and death. In the past few years we have wit-nessed the devastation of life and proper-ty through earthquakes and hurricanes. So many lifted their lament to God, simply asking, “Why?” This is an honest expression of anger toward a God who we believe is the giver of life. When we lose a loved one, we can wonder why the presence of Christ is not enough to make
Treasures From Our Tradition As Independence Day draws near, we think of the men and women of the military who serve with courage and competence, some far from home. How does the Church accom-pany them? In 1939, Pope Pius XII created an independent jurisdiction of the Catholic Church called the “Military Vicariate.” In 1985 Pope John Paul II created the “Archdiocese for Military Services, USA.” Spanning the globe and serving nearly one and a half million Roman Catholics, more than one thousand priests minister in hospi-tals, on military bases of all the armed forces, on ships at sea, and on the battlefield. The AMS does not ordain priests, but accepts priests on loan from religious orders and dio-ceses. In 1824 a Jesuit priest named Adam Marshall enlisted in the Navy and died at sea in 1825. He was assigned as a “schoolmaster,” but he sought out and ministered to Catho-lic sailors. Twenty years later, President Polk was worried that the war with Mexico was seen as anti-Catholic, so he recruited two Jesuit priests to serve in the army as chaplains. At the time of the Civil War, only about ten percent of Americans were Catholic. Mili-tary policies forced Catholic soldiers to attend Protestant services. The Church protested this rule, and many priests volunteered to become chaplains. Their witness and the cour-age of the “Nuns of the Battlefield” (several orders of sisters who assisted Civil War victims) helped temper prejudice against Catholics and pave the way for the life and ministry of this vigorous and unique archdiocese. —Rev. Spiritual Adoption Baby Shower
Singing Praises! The Respect Life Ministry appreciates your generosity and we are singing prais-es to our God for how many items we received for the annual Spiritual Baby Shower! A heartfelt thank you for your donations of approximately $2,500 in baby items and $800 in gift cards and monetary donations. Gifts were distribut-ed to several local life centers! Your love, thoughtfulness, time spent shopping for gifts, donations – all were just incredible blessings for so many families in need. These families chose LIFE for their babies and your support helps them to give to their family the most basic needs of clothing. God bless you for thinking of them and for your constant love and support. Thank you!
Join Us The Respect Life Ministry meets the first Tuesday of every month at 7:00 pm in Conference Room 1 (next to Glynn Hall), with the exception of July. All are wel-come to join us for the hour long meeting which begins with praying the rosary and then centers on topics for upcoming events. The San Antonio de Padua Respect Life Ministry advocates that all human life should be treated with love, respect, dig-nity, compassion, and mercy. Our faith teaches us that life should be protected at all stages from conception to natural death. Human life is a gift from our Lord and we are in awe of this blessing. All life, including our unborn children, those who are dying, our elderly, our children, young adults, the disabled, our neigh-bors, prisoners, and their victims, are human beings made in God’s likeness and with such, we share our love, just as Jesus Christ taught us to share His love. Please consider joining us at the next meeting. With any questions, please con-tact Mike Cushing at (714) 404-3584.
