The Year of Mercy: Remembering Mercy
“In short, we are called to show mercy because mercy has first been shown to us.” Pope Francis “You ruthless servant! I forgave you all that debt because you pleaded with me. Should not you have had mercy on your fellow servant, as I had mercy on you?” (Mt. 18: 32) This is the situation. The king, who says these words, had forgiven the servant a huge amount. But this servant did not forgive a fellow servant who owed him a small amount. Instead he sent him to debtor’s prison. The other servants heard about this miscarriage of mercy and reported the forgiven-but-not-forgiving servant to the king. This sets up the king’s question: “Should not you have had mercy on your fellow servant, as I had mercy on you?” Everyone seems to “get it” but the forgiven ser-vant. The king and the other servants know that the burden of being shown mercy is to be merciful to others. Why didn’t the forgiven servant get it? The parable doesn’t tell us, but we can guess. The forgiven servant took his forgiveness lightly, probably as getting lucky. Then he promptly forgot the whole thing and went about his business with the usual knee-jerk reaction of “pay me back or I will punish you.” The lesson for us is simple but difficult.
Remember the times we were shown mercy. Perhaps it was a parent, or a teacher, or a friend who responded with graciousness when we most needed it but least deserved it.
Host these times in our minds and hearts. Ponder how significant they were.
Be grateful to the people who were in-volved.
The more reflective time we give to our experi-ences of receiving mercy, the more willing and creative we will be in showing mercy. Copyright © John Shea
Thank You for your Hospitality!
Thank you to those who assisted and opened their home to the Land of Lakes Choirboys from Min-nesota. Their concert here at SJB on Tuesday, June 14 was outstanding, and the talented group is now on its way to Florida and other points on their tour. Your generosity and hospitality displayed the great sense of ministry which exists here at SJB.
The LOL Choirboys showed us their polished vocal technique, public speaking, showmanship and ac-complishment. The boys are taught to act as polite gentlemen, make eye contact when they shake your hand, to be responsible for their assignments and for one another. It was a pleasure to have them here. Boys can and do sing!

READINGS FOR JULY 3 First Reading— Rejoice and be glad for I will spread prosperity over Jerusalem like
a river, and the wealth of nations like an overflow-ing torrent (Isaiah 66:10-14c). Psalm — Let all the earth cry out to God with joy (Psalm 66). Second Reading — May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ (Galatians 6:14-18). Gospel — Jesus sends his disciples out in pairs to bring his peace and proclaim the kingdom of God (Luke 10:1-12, 17-20) [1-9].
TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION Some say tomato—and some say tomahto—you know the old song. What do you say when you ar-rive at church and see a font prepared, a baby in the wings, the paschal candle burning? Well, maybe you will say that “we’re having a baptism today,” or maybe you say “we are having a christening.” The proper term is baptism, since that is the name of the sacrament. But the persistent use of “christening” in
our culture, probably from due to the influence of the Episcopal Church, is interesting. Baptism, an ancient word, is from the Greek meaning to dip or to dunk. Christening is an Old English word that describes perfectly well that more than getting splashed with water, the person being baptized is being “Christ-ed.” No matter what you call it, there’s always water involved, and then an anointing with chrism—fragrant olive oil conse-crated as a sign of Christ’s presence—poured upon the brow as we say, “As Christ was anointed Priest, Prophet, and King, so may you live always as a member of his body, sharing everlasting life.” So, in being Christ-ed, you are conformed to his image, your life is expected to be a retelling of his life in miniature and you—even though you may be squirming or sleeping—are commissioned to be a priest, a prophet, a king. This means that you are called to be one who worships, you are called to speak the truth, you are called to shape the world and exercise right judgment. That is the deepest treasure of our tradition, and every time you gather to celebrate a baptism, you renew your vows pre-cisely so that you can be more “Christ-ed.” No mat-ter what vocabulary you assign to the liturgy, the key is transformation of the human person in the community of the Body of Christ.
Come join and discover the wonders that await you as an Altar Server at St. John Brebeuf Church. Calling all stu-dents grades 3-12. Come and accept your calling to a life changing experience by assisting our Priests with daily masses. This is a wonderful, and rewarding opportunity to serve your community. If you are interested in an-swering your call, please contact the parish office at (847) 966-8145 to let us know. You will then be con-tacted with further information.

PERPETUAL
EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
Christ's followers were skeptical when He preached the reality of His Body and Blood as food and drink. St. John said, "many of His disci-ples withdrew and no longer went about with Him."
Seeing this, Jesus asked the Twelve, "Do you also want to leave me?" Simon Peter did not understand any more than those who left Christ, but his loyalty was more firm. "Lord," he said, "to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternaFED BY THE LORD Jesus’ words “This is my body” and “This cup is the new covenant in my blood” were only part of his table blessing. Jesus twice said: “Do this in remembrance of me” (1 Corinthians 11:24, 25).

Abortion is the "choice" of selfishness, convenience and murder. It is never the right "choice". Choose life! Let us continue to pray daily: “Jesus, Mary and Joseph, I love you very much. I beg you to spare the life of the unborn baby that I have spiritually
adopted who is in danger of abortion.”

In today’s Gospel we see how Je-sus, on his way to Jerusalem, sent “a
messenger on ahead of Him.” To be the messen-gers of God, we must know well what it is God
wants to say and do through us, as he sends us out to bring his love to others. Last month, you were the “messengers of God” to the poor. Rok Miłosierdzia: Pamiętając o Miłosierdziu
"Krótko mówiąc, jesteśmy wezwani, by okazać miłosierdzie, gdyż ta łaska została uprzednio nam dana." Papież Franciszek
”Wtedy pan jego wezwał go przed siebie i rzekł mu: "Sługo niegodziwy! Darowałem ci cały ten dług, ponieważ mnie prosiłeś. Czyż więc i ty nie powinieneś był ulitować się nad swoim współsługą, jak ja ulitowałem się nad tobą?” (Mt 18, 32)? Oto sytuacja. Król, który mówi te słowa, wybaczył swemu słudze ogromną kwotę. Ale ten sługa nie wybaczył swojemu współsłudze, który był mu winien niewielką kwotę. Zamiast tego wysłał go do więzienia.
• Miejmy te czasy w naszych umysłach i sercach. • Zastanówmy się nad tym, jak istotne były to chwile. • Bądźmy wdzięczny ludziom, którzy byli w to zaangażowani. Im bardziej rozważamy nasze doświadczenia z otrzymaniem miłosierdzia, tym chętniej i bardziej będziemy okazywać miłosierdzie innym. Copyright © John Shea
