MISSION STATEMENT
We the people of Our Lady of the Snows and Church of Saint
Benedict comprise a joyful Catholic Community of the faithful united
in Baptism in Christ Jesus the Son, guided by the Father, and
sustained by the Holy Spirit.
We are dedicated to serving God and one another with love and understanding.
We also recognize the diversity of cultural, ethnic, and religious traditions
among us and extend our hands and hearts to all with care and compassion.
Challenged by the Word of God, we are nourished by the Eucharist and
strengthened by prayer and the sacraments to attain our ultimate goal of eternal life
and everlasting happiness in complete union with God.

May They Rest in Peace
In addition, we remember our recently deceased relatives, friends and cherished members of our own parish community, especially:
“Bootsie” Gowarty
David J. Gromelski Esq.
Today's Gospel features one of the most oft-
quoted Scripture verses of all time: "For God so
loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that
everyone who believes in him might not perish but
might have eternal life.” But if Christ has come, why is the world so challenging? Why is the world still -- to our eyes -- being carried off in a proverbial hand basket? Jesus' response is a deeply personal one. "This is
the verdict, that the light came into the world, but
people preferred darkness to light.” Patterns arise, habits are formed, and systems become engrained, but each is the result of an interconnected web of human choices.
Where do we stand? Our answers, perhaps, vary from week to week, hour to hour, missed traf!ic light to spilled coffee to teenage child's rebellion. The world isn't perfect because we aren't perfect. Our parish is !lawed because we're !lawed. Our families need work because every one of us needs to be converted. Christianity is a process, not a destination! This Sunday, Jesus invites us to consider our own lives. Where in our own lives do we prefer darkness to light? What !laws are we trying to hide?
Humbly acknowledge those places today. Ask God for the grace to be transformed. Share with your spouse or a friend where you'd like to improve this week. Remember that, "Whoever loves truth comes to the
light, so that his works may be clearly seen as done in God."

Journey of Fasting... What can fasting mean in out health-
conscious culture? The fasting of Lent is not about eating less for its own sake. In the Book of Isaiah, God addresses the mistake of settling for the outward trappings of penance. “Is not this the fast
that I choose: to loose the bonds of
injustice, to undo the thongs of the yoke, to
let the oppressed go free?” We are encouraged to fast by sharing our bread with the hungry and bringing the homeless into our own homes. Go beyond the days of Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. Please consider a Weekly Poverty Meal, which is one simple meal each week as an important part of your Lenten journey. The money one saves on their Weekly Poverty Meal each week can be used to buy food to support our local food pantries. Each week bring your food into the church and it will be brought up as an additional offering to God at our Sunday Masses during this Lenten Season.
