THANKS FOR MANY JOBS WELL DONE

Saturday, May 12, was another lively Spring into Service Day. Volunteers are worth their weight in gold. They share their time and talents without hesitation. The Stewardship Committee and the Parish say, “Thanks for a job well done.” Thanks to those who hauled dirt and mulch, pulled weeds, planted and re-potted, stained outdoor furniture, polished wood, washed floors, vacu-umed, washed and ironed curtains, organized files and cleaned out cupboards. ]

Your willingness to use your gifts and abilities strengthens the mission and ministry of this church. You are an example of serv-ant-leadership and giving. For all your time, effort, hard work and prayers, please accept the thanks and appreciation of this church, its leaders and staff. You have truly been a blessing to this con-gregation!

PARISH TRUSTEE – TREASURER

St. Sebastian Parish is a Non-Profit Corporation governed by State Law and has two elected trustees, a Secretary and Treasurer. Each serves a two-year term and they are elected on a staggered basis. The parish is now taking nominations for the Trustee – Treasurer position. Michelle Hansen’s term ends June 30, 2018. We thank her for her service thus far and her willingness to serve another term.

The duties for this trustee are outlined in the Parish Trustee and Administrative Services Handbook, which is available for review in the Parish Office or via email by request to [email protected]. The job and its responsibilities entail about 20 volunteer hours per month on a flexible basis. All those who would be interested in putting their names in nomination must be practicing Catholics, registered parish members and at least 25 years of age and must have their name submitted in writ-ing by 10 or more, at least 18 year old registered members of the parish. These names are to be given to Fr. Larry Chapman, Pas-tor/chair of the trustee committee over the next two weeks so we can announce the nominees, if an election is needed, at the Mass-es on June 10, 2018. If an election is needed, it will be held on June 17, 2018. If you are interested please follow the nomination procedures by writing to Fr. Larry Chapman for the position of treasurer by June 8, 2016.

HAVE YOU CONSIDERED SAINT SEBASTIAN

PARISH IN YOUR ESTATE PLAN?

Show your appreciation for the place where you worship, build community and educate your children by making arrangements for a planned gift. We are grateful to those who have been intentional in planning their estates to continue the gift of Saint Sebastian Parish for years to come. If you would like to know more, please contact Carole Poth at 414.453.1061 extension 126 or [email protected]. Also, there are Planned Giving brochures on the kiosk in the Gathering Space. Take time to think about our mission to proclaim Christ and grow believers. It is a special lega-cy to support God’s work into the future!

SEEKING 4-5 INDIVIDUALS TO JOIN OUR

ENVIRONMENTAL COMMITTEE!

Our current environmental enhancer, Del Slowik, is planning on retiring and giving up his role in this endeavor. Our parish is developing a committee of interested individuals to work together to provide the appropriate prayerful environment. A committee of this size can decrease the work load commitment for a task that may appear very formidable. Del is planning to assist on the committee to provide mentorship to guide mem-bers through the initial phase!

What are the requirements? An ability to work together to as-sist our parishioners in their faith experiences while maintain-ing the appropriate seasonal colors.

What is the time commitment? There is approximately a 2-3 hour time commitment 7 times a year! The vision for the com-mittee would be that members work together (sharing respon-sibilities) for the seasons of Advent, Christmas, Ordinary time, Lent, Holy Week and Easter to ultimately decrease this time commitment! This past Christmas environment with volunteers only took 2 hours to complete and the Easter set-up took 90 minutes!

If the Holy Spirit is calling you to join this rewarding effort, please call Julia at the parish office 414.453.1061 or Del Slowik at 414.526.0519 or email: [email protected] to allow us to establish a meeting time for development.

CELEBRATING MARRIAGE

II Michael Alan Jasinski & Beth Marie McMahon (St. John’s Northwestern Military Academy—Nobel Victory

Memorial Chapel)

SENIOR MINISTRY 2018

We’re continuing to focus on an important Medicare issue--new Medicare cards and numbers. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) are removing Social Security Numbers from Medicare cards to help prevent fraud, fight identity theft and protect taxpayers with Medicare.

YOU WILL HAVE A UNIQUE MEDICARE NUMBER: The main reason CMS is removing Social Security Numbers from Medicare cards is to protect people with Medicare from identity theft and fraud. Your Social Security Number will be removed from your Medicare card and you will be given a Medicare Number that is unique to you; it will not be shared

with anyone else without expressed permission. The new Medicare number will have numbers and uppercase letters, and the number will be on your new Medicare card.

YOUR MEDICARE BENEFITS WILL NOT CHANGE: The new Medicare number system will not change Medicare benefits. The benefits you receive from Medicare will not be affected by this change. Once you receive your new Medicare card you can start using it right away.

SUSTAINABILITY CORNER

Spring cleaning includes decluttering; so what to do with all that

stuff you already have? Keep It: A good rule of thumb to re-member is if you have used it in the past year, chances are you’ll use it again. If it’s not broken, why replace it? Donate It: We all have those what-was-I-thinking? items that still have miles left. Keep these out of the landfill by asking family and friends if they have use for your unwanted items, offering them on the web or even dropping them off at Goodwill. Recycle It: Commercial mail, old magazines, newspapers, catalogs and cereal boxes – all of these can be recycled. Keep an eye out for additional items that don’t go into the recycling bin but can be taken to neighbor-hood stores for recycling, like plastic bags, compact fluorescent bulbs and rechargeable batteries. Trash It: Landfills should only be used for items that truly have no remaining use or place to go,

but be careful when disposing of hazard-ous materials - many chemicals should be taken directly to the city’s hazardous waste drop-off site. Be mindful - even if something isn’t recyclable, chances are it may be reused in some creative capacity. Read more at https://earth911.com/home-garden/8-ways-to-go-green-in-spring/
