Zl o ~ our report or February 18), but these are casualand col lateral and were not explored to determine whether theyinvolved any underlyins s in i s te r p u r p o e ~ N o ~ were they probedin such a manner as to permit a determination as to how much o ~Ruby's time they occupied.

In the two months prior toNovember 22, Ruby supposedly s ~ e n t considerable time promotingan exercise device kno :n as a twist board." The "twistboard" was purportedly manufactured by ~ l a s t e l l 1 t e Engineering,a Fort Worth manufacturer t oi l f ie ld equipment which haspoor cred1 references and was the subject or an PBI investi-gation n 1952. We know t no sales of th is em by Ruby; ·nor do we lmow i any "twist boards" were manufactured to rsa le . i l legal act iv i t ies . Although Ruby had no known ideological orpol i t ica l in te res ts (see p. 35 or our report o ~ February 18)

there i s much evidence that he was interested in Cuban· matters.In early 1959 Ruby inquired concerning the smuggling orpersons out or Cuba. He has admitted that , a t that time 1 henegotiated for the sale or Jeeps to Castro. In September 1959,Ruby Visited Havana a t the invi tat ion or Las Vegas racketeer,Louis J . McWill1e1 who paid Ruby's ~ ~ e n s e s for the t r ip andmo was l a t e r expelled f rom Cuba by Castro. McWillie i s



described by Ralph Paul6 Ruby'e business partner, as one o t

Ruby's closest f r iends. Ruby mailed a gun to McW1111e in ear ly1963. In 19616- t i s reported t ha t Ruby at tended three meetings1n Dallas in connection with the s ale of arms to Cubans andthe smuggling out r r efugcen.
