National
1. Government has exempted services of life insurance business provided
under Aam Aadmi Bima Yojana (AABY) and Janashree Bima Yojana(JBY)from service tax.
2. Virbhadra Singh took oath as Himachal CM Congress leader Virbhadra
Singh was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh for a record sixth
time.Previously, he was Chief Minister 5 times b/w 1983 and 1985; 1985 and
1990; 1993 and 1998 and 2003 and 2007.
3. Modi sworn in as Chief Minister for the fourth time BJP leader Narendra
Modi was sworn in as Gujarat Chief Minister for the fourth time. He was
administered the oath of office and secrecy by Governor Kamla Beniwal.
4. 57th NDC Meet in New Delhi The NDC, which comprises Cabinet Ministers and
state Chief Ministers, met in New Delhi approve the 12th Plan (201217)document.Planning commision approved the 12th Plan Five Year Plan Document
aimed at 8 per cent average annual growth, from 8.2 per cent in the draft
5. NRHM to be Converted in NHM The National Rural Health Mission , program
begun by Union Ministry of Health in 2005 for the improvement of health
conditions in rural areas will soon be implemented to both urban and rural areas
and be renames as National Health Mission.The NRHM health policy that
focuses only on rural areas will now provide health facilities to PAN India level
6. The Madhya Pradesh Government has set up a Senior Citizen Commission
to look into the problems of the elderly in the State.
7. Astramissile test fired successfully India successfully test-fired indigenouslydeveloped Beyond Virtual Range (BVR) "Astra" missile.Test-fired from the
Integrated Test Range at Chandipur, 15 km from Balasore in Odisha.
8. Nuclear capable Prithvi-II successfully flight-tested The Strategic Forces
Command (SFC) successfully flight-tested nuclear weapons-capable Prithvi-II
missile from Chandipur, off the Odisha coast. SFC handles nuclear-tipped
missiles.
9. India successfully test-fires Agni-I ballistic missile The Strategic Force
Command of the Indian Army conducted a successful practice trial of
indigenously developed nuclear capable Agni-I ballistic missile with a strike range
of 700 km from a test range off Odisha coast.10. Lok Sabha approved the Constitution (118th Amendment) Bill,
2012whichseeks to provide special status to six backward districts in the
Hyderabad Karnataka region, with provision for reservation in education and jobs
for local people.The Bill introduces a new Article 371-J to provide special
recognition for the six backward districts in north Karnataka: Gulbarga, Yadgir,
Raichur, Bidar, Koppal and Bellary.

11. Rajya Sabha passed a Constitution (117th Amendment) Bill, 2012,providing
for quota for SCs and STs in government job promotions with an overwhelming
vote of 206 in the 245-member House.The Bill provides for amendments to
Article 16(4) of the Constitution that will allow states to reserve seats in
promotion for SCs and STs without collecting data to show the backwardness of
class and inadequacy of that class in public appointments.
ECONOMICS/BANKING
1. Government to pour in Rs 4,000-cr capital into SBI The Government isexpected to infuse Rs 4,000 crore into State Bank of India this fiscal. This will
boost the banks capital adequacy ratio( CAR) to over 13 per cent, according to a
top bank official.
2. Naina Lal Kidwai becomes first woman president of FICCI Head of HSBC
India, Naina Lal Kidawai took charge as the first woman President of Federation
of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).
3. RBI extends deadline for new cheque standardstill march 2013RBI directed
to all banks that the last date for phasing out non-CTS Standard cheqs upto 31st
December, 2012. RBI further instructed to all Banks to holding post-dated EMI
cheques (received either on their own behalf or on behalf of their NBFC clients)were advised to ensure the replacement of non-CTS-2010 Standard cheques
with CTS-2010 standard cheques before December 31, 2012.
4. National Investment Board renamed as Cabinet Committee on
InvestmentThe Union Cabinet approved a renamed and modified version of the
original proposal, creating a new Cabinet Committee on Investment (CCI) The
Cabinet Committee on Investment,apart from the prime minister,will include the
finance minister,the law minister,and the ministers of key infrastructure
ministries.To begin with projects with investment of over Rs 1,000 crore will be
cleared by the committee.It will monitor the progress of decision making and also
implementation of projects.5. RBI eases KYC norms The RBI has eased the burden of producing multiple
documents to open a bank account. It has said that banks can accept any of the
documents such as Passport, PAN Card, Drivers Licence, Aadhaar letter,
and NREGA Job Card as proof of identity as well as addressThe RBI has also
done away with the requirement of introduction from an existing customer of the
bank for opening of bank accounts.

6. SBI, RDIF collaborate to form $2 billion consortium To encourage
investments b/w the two nations, Indias State Bank of India (SBI) and Russian
sovereign wealth fund Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) came together to
ink an MoU for setting up a$2 billion investment consortium. Both the groups
would invest up to $1 billion each in the consortium.
7. FDI ceiling in ARCs increased to 74% With an aim to attract greater foreignexpertise in the domain of asset reconstruction, the government has raised the
foreign investment ceiling in Asset Reconstruction Companies (ARCs) to 74%
from previous 49%.
8. Ratan Tata retired Ratan Tata, who led the transformation of the Tata Group
from a conventional corporate house into a $100 billion global conglomerate with
high-profile acquisitions abroad retired from the chairman postion.Mr. Mistry of
the Shapoorji Pallonji group and whose family owns 18 per cent stake in Tata
Sons, is chosen by a five-member selection committee as the new chairman.
9. RBI keeps key rates unchanged
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) kept all key policy rates and reserve ratios unchanged in a monetary policy
review.
The bank rate remains unchanged at 9 per cent, the repurchase (repo) rate at 8 per cent, reverse repo rate at 7 per
cent, the cash reserve ratio at 4.25 per cent and statutory liquidity ratio at 23 per cent.\
Parliament passed Banking BillThe Banking Bill 2011 was introduced in order to
amend the Banking Regulation Act ,1949and The Banking companies Act1970.The Bill will pave the way for new bank license by RBI resulting in opening
of new Banks and Branches
Bill enable banking companies to issue preference shares subject to regulatory guidelines by RBI.
It increase voting rights of the share holders
Public sector banks From 1% to 10%
Private Sector Bank From 10% to 26 %

1. Egypt approves new constitution after referendum Egypt voters approved a
constitution drafted by President Mohamed Mursis Islamist allies. The new
constitution was adopted with 63.8% of the vote which gave Islamists their third
consecutive victory at the polls since Hosni Mubarak was ousted in a 2011
revolution.

Olympics.
12. Former captain of Australian cricket team, Ricky Ponting has announced
retirement from Test cricket. His retirement has come after South Africa defeated
Australia in the third test match in Perth to win the series
