About HEARTHEART is the arts, enterprise and community centre in the middle of Headingley where people from all walks of life come to meet, work and play. HEART exists thanks to the efforts of Headingley Development Trust that workedhard to keep this old primary school in community use.

At the heart of Headingley, we offer a varied programmeof music, films, exhibitions, workshops, performancesand more. Are you looking for a space to work, a venuefor a meeting or party - or somewhere to put on classesor performances? Check out our facilities.

Bad Ass BrassSaturday 2 November 8 - 10.30pm - Shire Oak Since forming in 2008, Bad Ass Brass has been thrilling audiences with its bold, funky music and high adrenaline performances. The band takes its influence from the sounds of traditional New Orleans brass bands but adds its own unique twist. Bad Ass Brass is comprised of some of the UK’s finest brass players and jazz musicians who are busy working on the London music scene in jazz bands, West End shows, big bands and orchestras and their strong sense of friendship results in an electric presence on stage.

The Quiet Americans BandFriday 8 November 8 - 10.30pm Shire OakA classic country, blues and rock gig not to be missed. The sound of a classic driving mix tape in the summer highway heat. The Quiet Americans are bringing the finest stateside sounds to HEART in a special evening’s performance. Covering Cash to Cream, Neil Young to Kris Kristoffersen, searing guitar solos surge through blues melodies and three guitars rev up the rock.

Hope Theatre presents The Winter’s TaleFrom Thursday 14 to Saturday 16 November 7.15 -10.00pm Shire OakA romance by William Shakespeare presented by Hope Theatre.Since 2000, they have staged eleven Shakespeare productions, several other plays and a series of recitals of music and poetry. The Winter’s Tale is one of Shakespeare’s late romances, combining near tragedy, hilarious comedy and young love, and is widely considered one of his consummate masterpieces.

About EllyTuesday 19 November 8 - 10.30pm Shire OakFilms at Heart presents About Elly by Dir Asghar Farhadi which, starts with a group of friends driving fast through a tunnel, yelling with exuberance at the idea of a weekend’s holiday. It ends two days later on a beach with them trying to push a car clear of the waves. A life has been lost, self-respect shattered, friendships and possibly marriages destroyed.Iran/France; 2009; 119 mins Subtitled.

The Tremendoes Fog on the TyneThursday 21 November 8 - 10.30pm CaféThe Tremendoes Fog on the Tyne is a rollercoaster eclectic mixed show featuring poets Helen Burke and Carol Bhianchi and musician Simon Davey. The poems and music feature the seven ages of life – from childhood, to student days, to life, love and laughter as they battle on in the ship of life! Much of the work is created especially for this show.

Love SocietyFriday 29 November 7.30 - 10:40pmShire Oak Fresh from main stage at Garforth Arts Festival’s Playground Party, Love Society are a Leeds based Jazz sextet teamed up with six Zulu vocalists from Durban, South Africa. A rare combination of Zulu traditional music and jazz - the result is wondrous harmony on top of intricate, danceable grooves. One moment delicate and sensitive, the next, spine tingling power. Love Society at HEART promises to be a truly memorable evening.

The Standard Deviation QuartetSaturday 30 November 7.30 - 10.30pm Shire OakWith their highly melodic, song-based approach, they create fresh re-interpretations of the standard repertoire as defined by composers such as Cole Porter and Irving Berlin. The quartet initially formed as part of Leeds-based guitarist Jiannis Pavlidis’ group, and soon after established themselves as a band in their own right. They have appeared at the Splinter, The Bridge; Sela Bar; as well as appearing live on BBC Radio Leeds.

The SapphiresTuesday 10 December 8 - 10:15pmShire Oak The film portratys four Aboriginal women forming the soul group, The Sapphires, in 1968 under the tutelage of alcoholic, Irish talent scout Dave Lovelace. Though they face racial prejudice, they are sure they are destined for fame. Dave gets them a job entertaining the troops in Vietnam and, despite the danger, they head out to the warzone.Australia; 2012; 103 minsDir Wayne Blair.

Shire OakJoin HDT, HEART and jazz-at-heart for a warm and fun community event with friends, family and supporters. This promises to be a night of fantastic music with Al Morrison Blues Experience that will get you dancing. A special 11 piece big band, celebrating the music of the great blues artists. Bring food to share and show your cooking skills whilst supporting HDT and HEART.
