23rd March 2017PRINCIPAL’S REPORTPUPIL FREE DAY THIS FRIDAY MARCH 24th
Staff are joining with Port Fairy Consolidated School teachers for a Numeracy Professional Development Day.
PORT FAIRY FOLK FESTIVAL Our PFA and parents had a busy weekend at the Folk Festival cooking pancakes with some great results. We would like to thank everyone who cut up strawberries, prepared the trailer, purchased produce, did a shift and gave up their valuable time over the weekend. This is a major fundraiser and community event for the school. The money raised from all our Pancake events goes directly into supporting every child’s education here at Woolsthorpe PS. We would not have the low school fee costs we do, the many extra resources and be able to provide the wonderful opportunities and programs we do without our PFA fundraising.
HOUSE SPORTS - ATHLETICS Our school House Sports last week along with our Welcome BBQ was a great school community event. Many thanks to all the staff, students and parents for their work and help on the day, our Trademark values of Respect, Excellence, Care and Teamwork were on full display for everyone to see. Thank you to our wonderful PFA and parents who cooked the BBQ, served food, assisted with events, cleaned up. It is what makes our school so special, the way parents and staff work together in order to run programs for all students like our house sports. Our student leaders showed by example just what you can achieve if you give your all. During the day all students applied themselves in all events and tried their very best. Our House Sports is a unique tradition and part of our school culture. The day is run partly by our student leaders, who do a great job of training students during term 1. Special mention to Mrs Cumming and
all the staff for their efforts and excellent organisation while Mr Miller is on leave

$15 EACH OR $14 FOR MULTIPLE ORDERS. $1 DISCOUNT FOR ORDERS PRIOR TO APRIL 26TH
WOOLSTHORPE PRIMARY SCHOOL 12 MANIFOLD ST, WOOLSTHORPE VIC 3276
For the last 10 years as a fundraiser for our Ground Force Team and Kitchen Garden Program, we have sold over 500 heritage apple trees to satisfied customers. Trees are grafted onto MM111-a drought and wooly aphid resistant rootstock- that in good conditions grows to be 3-4 metres tall. (By summer pruning you can produce a much smaller tree with the same characteristics.) To help with planning, early orders are appreciated as we have to place our order in early April to guarantee rootstock supply.

CARAMUT AND DISTRICT GARDEN
CLUB April is a good month to plant spring flowering bulbs. Many bulbs do well planted in containers, hyacinths being a favourite.
Choose a large pot, fill two thirds with a good quality potting mix. Place bulbs on the surface so they do not touch each other and press lightly into the mix. Cover the bulbs with more potting mix level to the rim and firm down by watering. Place the pot in a cool position away from direct sun. When the leaves appear after about 2 months, the pot should be placed in a sunny spot for about 6 hrs of sunlight. When flowering, the pot can be brought inside for short periods to enjoy the flowers. Keep the soil moist in the pot but not too wet otherwise the bulbs will rot. Plant the bulbs out in the garden for next season.
Perennials that have become very dense, can be dug out, and divided replanting the strongest growing stems from the outside of the clump.
Plant container grown shrubs, trees, climbers, citrus and natives. Many annual flowers can be planted now. In the vegie garden, broccoli, Brussel sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, lettuce, onion, silver beet, parsley, peas and broad beans can be planted now.
Competition Winners were
Bloom: 1st Lorraine Schefferle, 2nd Myra Bish. The special competition of 3 geraniums/pelargoniums was won by Brenda Uebergang 1st and Aileen Fowler 2nd
.Produce: 1st Lorraine Schefferle 2nd Rhoda Mirtschin
Our next meeting on Tuesday April 11th at 10 am will be held at “The Union” Woolsthorpe.
The special competition for the month is a flowering tree or shrub.
Enjoy your Garden
