Welcome to the Avalon Yacht Club 1976 season. From Flag Raising to Year End Party; from Family Night Suppers for sailors and swimmers to Commodore’s Ball, we have planned a schedule of events that we hope you will all enjoy. In addition to our regular sailing and swimming programs and our Avalon Yacht Club Regatta, this year we are hosting the G P 14 North American Championship Regatta. Our sincere thanks to all who have helped plan and carry out the Yacht Club program this year— the officers, trustees and committees—and to the Mayor and Commissioners of Avalon and the United States Coast Guard for their cooperation.Come and join us often—we’ll be looking forward to seeing you.

★ Women's Auxiliary ★

We invite everyone to participate in the Women's Auxiliary activities. Our season starts off with an Auxiliary meeting on Tuesday, June 22, followed by the Rummage Sale on June 23rd and 24th. There will be Auxiliary meetings on July 27th and August 31st. Bridge will again be on Thursday nights and we are planning to have informal card games in the Youth Room on the same nights. August 3rd is the date set for the Fashion Show and Luncheon at the Club, and A night at the Races is scheduled for Wednesday, August 25th. A new event, an art show and cocktail party, is planned for Sunday, August 29th. We are also having two covered dish suppers on Family Night following the swimming and sailing races on July 30th and August 27th. All of these events are listed in the Social Calendar and we hope you will join us in enjoying them this summer.

1976 YOUTH A N D SA IL ING ACTIVITIES

AVALON R EG A TTAThe Avalon Yacht Club and the Borough of Avalon welcome all sailors, flag officers

a nd members of the South Jersey Yacht Racing Association to the 1976 Avalon Regatta. Our Regatta Chairman this year is Vice Commodore John J. Runzer.

Comets, GP 14s, Lasers, Moths and Senior and Junior Sunfish will participate in this year's event on July 17-18.

W EEK EN D SAILIN G A CTIV ITIESEach member club of the South Jersey Yacht Racing Association sponsors a weekend

regatta at its home club during July and August. Members of the Avalon Yacht Club are invited to compete in these regattas.

The Avalon Yacht Club sponsors two (one in July and one in August) Summer Series of sailing at the Club. Two races are held each Saturday during the season. Sunfish and such other classes of boats for which there is demand will be raced.

The Club will also sponsor its 4th of July Regatta and on Labor day weekend its Past Commodores' Regatta. This program will be under the Chairmanship of Robert E. Slota.

S P EC IA L SA ILIN G EV EN TSThis year the Club is instituting a series of special sailing events under the Chair

manship Clinton C. Funk, Jr. These events include the Clinton C. Funk, Sr. Memorial Laser Regatta, the GP 14 class North American Regatta, a Club sponsored Mother's Day race and our traditional Father's Day race on Labor Day.

YOUTH PRO GRAMThe Youth Program will again be under the direction of the Club Manager, Dick

Shoemaker. The staff will include Ed Ferren, head sailing instructor, who will be assisted by

Donna Ferren, Jamie McDermott, John Runzer and Dave Pearson. Susie Hunt will be the swimming instructor.

Sailing and swimming instruction, open to all children of club members, takes place in the morning and early afternoon, Tuesdays thru Fridays of each week during July and August.

The Avalon Yacht Club is fortunate to have the new Guy B. Hunt Youth Room as the clubhouse for the young members of our club. This unique facility helps to make the Avalon program among the finest that is offered.

Good sailing to all and may your summer be filled with the lasting pleasure of fellowship and competition.

Milton W. Kuhn, P.C.Chairman, Sailing Division
