A rare opportunity has arisen for prospective buyers to create their dream home through a pioneering shared ownership development in the historic market town of Banbury.

A selection of two and three bedroom houses will be built to a finished watertight ‘shell’ standard on the Hope Close, Banbury, allowing the homes’ new owners to benefit from a discount on their home in return for the investment of their skills and labour.

In exchange for completing the projects, the buyer will receive a £10,000 discount on their share of the purchase price and have the benefit of being able to select from a range of final fittings. The development will consist of two x two-bedroom houses and nine x three-bedroom homes all of which will include at least one allocated car parking space.

Inside each two-storey brick home, a hallway will lead to a kitchen, lounge and downstairs cloakroom. Each property will also have space for a dining area in either the kitchen or lounge.

Upstairs all properties will have bedrooms and a family bathroom with space for a WC, basin and bath.

Outside, space has been set aside for a rear or side garden to be finished to the owners’ taste. Many (although not all) will have gated access.

The properties will be available as watertight ‘shells’, complete with double glazing. In exchange for the discount on the purchase price, new owners will be responsible for;

• Plasterboarding internal walls and ceilings

• Fitting kitchen units

• Doors, architraves and skirting boards

• Landscaping gardens

• Painting/ decorating/ tiling

However a free training course and ongoing support during the building process will mean that you can develop the skills necessary to complete the work, so no experience is necessary – just the motivation and commitments to complete the work and a willingness to learn.

The properties are available on a shared ownership basis with a minimum purchase price of 50 per cent. Equity stakes can be increased by a minimum of five per cent at any time up to a maximum ownership of 100 per cent. Rent on the remaining share will be at one per cent of the property’s value plus a monthly service charge.

The houses are being offered by Cherwell District Council. All interested buyers must be registered with the Homebuy agent, Help to Buy South - www.helptobuysouth.co.uk
