Our Vision Achieving Progress and enriching Society through Professional Management Theme for the Year 'Accelerating Growth through Inclusion'Dear Members, Love, excitement, joy and delight on those Christmas days will remain in our hearts and lives forever. The childlike faith and hope, Santa Claus, the cakes, the anticipated unwrapping of gifts and presents are memories of Christmas. However December is also and always a time of reflection. The success and challenges of the past year will bring memories and the hope and the opportunities of the next year will keep us excited. The year 2012, was promising and challenging, a year that had in it the promise of change, betterment and growth but not without the perils and threat of stagnation. Goldman Sachs has just upgraded India's investment status to 'overweight' and predict a return to 7.4% in the next financial year. However India is far from reaching its true potential: The nation's economy isn't going to recover overnight, unemployment will continue to plague the country, and inclusive growth is still elusive. Every social indicator including the basic ones such as access to clean drinking water, empowerment of women and weaker sections, access to sanitary facilities, child mortality rate and labor , basic education and health care spending, eradication of caste barriers and an improvement in work culture are only a few problems and issues staring us in the face. Add to this the issue of corruption in high places (and at the grass roots), the electoral process (poor participation) and you have a pot puree of everything that has gone wrong. Regardless of it all, the HMA fraternity I am sure will find a way to shine while helping each other and the community. No one really knows what the next twelve months have in store, but one thing is almost certainour industry and management practices will continue to change and we had better be ready to accept it, adapt to it, acknowledge it and embrace it. As our enlightened members would know the next economy has arrived. It is global, knowledge intensive and fast changing, requiring high quality leadership and management. Leaders i.e. every one of us now face the added challenge of operating in a world where we face a great deal of turbulence, not unlike pilots navigating between hilly peaks and stormy clouds. In India, as elsewhere, the growth of a nation depends on its developing effective leaders. As an association and a key stakeholder this is both a challenge and opportunity to enhance our relevance and contribute to the growth of the management fraternity in particular and the growth of the nation in general. We certainly believe the HMA members and our readers, as well and those who visit hmaindia.net will take these challenges in their stride and exploit the opportunities to make the country a better place. The past few months have probably been the most exciting at HMA's history. The visit of Dr. Rangarajan, the launch of the two flagship programs like WE and NEEV , CONNECT BACK and HMA MINDS are several new and far impacting initiatives has certainly got the attention of the management fraternity in particular and the other stakeholders in general. While we continue to add and attract members across a spectra of industries, we would like to become an association of choice for managers and leaders, and I must add we are moving towards that goal. We believe and as suggested by some of you, the HMA MINDS will be the platform to organize a series of meetings with members, patrons, well wishers, other august bodies and associations, urging them to rejuvenate our projects to help the country accelerate its grown through better management practice..With courage, conviction and commitment and the support of each other, we're confident the HMA will have once again a fulfilling year. So, let's make our New Year's resolution a substantive one this year. Let us promise ourselves that we will excel in whatever we do.

I thank you all for being a part of our humble world, for all your support, through the good times and the bad. During a bad phase of 2012, I nearly gave up hope, the world seemed all too dark. But ever since overcoming that hurdle, we can only look towards the future with hope in our heart. We have some exciting plans for 2013. Have a great run up to Christmas and the New Year. I do look forward to meeting You. Happy New Year Hema Jain

EditorialM Adinarayana, Convenor, Standing Library & Editorial Sub-CommitteeDear Members It's my pleasure to share some of my thoughts with you as the year 2012 draws to a close. There is a perceptible nip in the air and the Yule tide fervor is just about to set it. I am sure this is an apt time for each of us to look back at the year gone by; a time for introspection, a time for waxing eloquent on what has been achieved and celebrating the success, a time of strategizing for the year coming up. Indeed, a time to take stock of where we stand and where we are headed. The socio-political-economic scenario has been as vibrant as it has ever been. In an apparent bid to shrug off the perception of sluggishness, the UPA government at the centre has flexed its muscles and come out with some major policy decisions. The decision to allow FDI in multi-brand retail has hogged immense media spot light and the subject of objective scrutiny. The decision has also got parliamentary approval; there are caveats though with respective state governments having to ratify and resolve to allow FDI in their states. The Companies Bill a very important piece of economic legislation that has been languishing for ages might at last see the light of the day. The Union Cabinet cleared the amendments to the Bill recently and with a new minister, Sachin Pilot, in charge at Shastri Bhavan, the Bill might well become a part of the statute book by FY 2013. Among the key changes contemplated is the clause on corporate social responsibility spend by certain categories of companies. The minister interacted with the corporate sector and sought to explain the rationale behind the clause; he has also hinted that the CSR spend might be eligible for tax sops. The clause follows the latest model that he UK has in place comply or explain. These and several other changes will perhaps give us enough food for thought to contemplate, cogitate and consolidate in the months to come. As always, we have been active during the period under review and a wide variety of programmes and activities have been organized. These are encapsulated elsewhere in the newsletter. I look forward to your constant support and co-operation as we step into the New Year. I wish each of you a very happy and prosperous New Year 2013; wishing you most and more in every aspect of life. Lets get into the new year with the hope of holistic abundance in every realm of life!!!
