EXHIBITION The Senior School students are well on their way planning for their 2019 Exhibition unit under the Transdisciplinary Theme ' Sharing the Planet.' This will be held on 4 September. STAFF TRAINING

Our whole staff have been engaged in Cultural understanding and Safety Training as part of DET’s Marrung initiative. Marrung is the Aboriginal Education Plan 2016-2026. The training has been provided by Arbup Ash Peters, a traditional owner. The training began with a Welcome to Country by Arbup. We learnt about the difference between a Welcome to Country and an Acknowledgment of Country, what aboriginality is and aboriginal culture and identity. We learnt about aboriginal history and

current day issues. This training is being delivered in all government schools.

Staff had varying levels of prior knowledge and found this very interesting and enjoyed the opportunity to work with Arbup. Arbup did work with our students in 2016 when the Heany Park Acknowledgement to Country was developed with our student leaders.

Our universal service systems are inclusive, responsive and respectful of Koorie people at every stage of their learning and developmental journey;

Every Koorie person achieves their potential, succeeds in life, and feels strong in their cultural identity.

POLLY WOODSIDE EXCURSION The Middle School students enjoyed a day out in the city finding out about explorers and our history.

RECYCLE YOUR CLOTHING WITH MONDO

OSHClub is organising a Clothing Recycling Program at school called “Mondo”. Mondo means World in Italian, and by getting involved in the Mondo program we are going to make the world a healthier place by saving unwanted clothing from ending up in landfill. We are asking families to donate any old or unwanted clothing, shoes and linen – 100% of which can be reused or recycled through our Mondo program. A collection truck will be at school in the car park at the back of the school, on 27th August from 8:30 to 9:15 am. We would be grateful if you could please bring in donations ON THIS DAY and not before as we have limited storage in our OSHClub room. Your donated items are sorted and graded. They are then either distributed to communities who can use them, recycled or made into bio-fuel. For every kilogram of clothing donated, the Mondo program will donate 10¢ to Heany Park Primary School. Items that can be donated: • All clothing items – babies, children and adults

• Belts, hats, scarves, bags

• Bed linen, blankets

• Shoes – including single shoes

• Soft cuddly toys Thank you for helping us make the world a healthier place. From the children at OSHClub

JUNIOR SCHOOL COUNCIL (JSC) JSC have been encouraging nude food Mondays. This will continue indefinitely. Each class has also been allocated an area to look after. I do think we are already seeing a reduction in litter around the yard. This is good news.

Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge

Just a reminder that the Reading Challenge at Heany Park ends for this year at the end of next week, Friday August 23rd 2019. There is still plenty of time to finish reading your books and to enter them online on the Reading Challenge website. All books need to entered online by Friday August 23rd 2019. This will then give me two weeks to chase up any last minute books. Certificates, for those students who have completed the challenge will be handed out in Term 4. Congratulations to the students who have

already finished. Good luck and happy reading, Michelle and Ms V.
