The semester one report will draw together the reporting so far this year and include comments on reading progress, specialist subjects and personal and social development. This was planned to be released on Compass today, 21 June. We are experiencing some issues with compass and apologise if this does not happen by the end of

Please book in to this on compass.

Your child’s learning and progress so far this year will be celebrated next week at the Three Way Conferences on 25 or 27 June. Achievements and goal setting for future learning will be the focus of these conferences. This process is complimentary to the written report to give you the full picture of your child’s progress.

Enrolment Policy

Under the Education and Training Reform Act 2006, schooling is compulsory for students aged between 6 and 17 years unless an exemption from attendance has been granted.

Children of school age have the right to be admitted to their designated neighbourhood government school at the beginning of the school year, (or when relevant), unless an approved alternative placement has been arranged.

At Heany Park Primary School we aim to provide an efficient process of enrolment that satisfies the needs of both students and the school, in keeping with the Department’s Enrolment, Placement and Admissions policies.

Our Enrolment Policy outlines the procedures that are in place to facilitate a smooth transition for enrolling students to enable them to become part of our school with a minimum disruption and maximum support.

Included in this week’s school newsletter, is the school’s recently updated Enrolment Policy, which was recently endorsed at our June School Council meeting. Adriana Dickinson (Assistant Principal)

ENROLMENT POLICY

PURPOSE

To facilitate a smooth transition for enrolling students that enables them to become part of our school with a minimum disruption and maximum support.

OBJECTIVES

To provide an efficient process of enrolment that satisfies the needs of both students and the school, in keeping with the Department’s Enrolment, Placement and Admissions policies.

GUIDELINES FOR IMPLEMENTATION

Under the Education and Training Reform Act 2006, schooling is compulsory for students aged between 6 and 17 years unless an exemption from attendance has been granted.

Children of school age have the right to be admitted to their designated neighbourhood government school, at the beginning of the school year (or when relevant) unless an approved alternative placement has been arranged.

For all students, the school must:

o Collect relevant admission information

o Provide a privacy notice to the enrolling parent, explaining the use to be made of enrolment information

o Collect and record an Immunisation History Statement- primary students

For admission, all applicants must be:

o an Australian citizen or a student with relevant specified visas or Immicard. Information regarding the enrolment of overseas students can be obtained from the International Student Program

o deemed eligible and approved for enrolment by the principal or relevant regional director

Students enrolling as part of the Foundation year intake, also will be required to provide proof of age, indicating that they have turned 5 years of age by the 30th April of that year

A child who is less than the minimum age of entry for Victorian schools, but has transferred from an interstate school, is eligible for enrolment. Evidence of age and full-time enrolment at the interstate school must be provided.

Parents / Carers seeking early age entry for their children must make a written application to the Principal, who will then make a written recommendation for consideration by the Regional Director.

Inclusive practices support the enrolment of all eligible students. Concerns relating to resourcing levels are in themselves insufficient grounds for delayed admission. Delayed admissions can only be authorised by the Regional Director.

All enrolments will require the completion of the Department of Education ‘Confidential Student Information Enrolment Form’, with details entered immediately on CASES21.

Submission of Foundation year enrolments will be accepted in the year prior to the commencement of school.

A letter of enrolment confirmation will be forwarded to the parents / guardians of Foundation year students.

All students will be given a unique student identification number known as the ‘Victorian Student Number’.

The Principal, or nominated principal representative, will contact the previous school’s principal of students seeking transfers, to:

o discuss the circumstances of the transfer,

o seek a transfer note or an immunisation certificate (if enrolling),

o discuss any academic or behavioural matters

Principals are responsible for assessing eligibility and approving the admission of:

o Individuals who are of compulsory school age

o Individuals who fall within an exemption under the Regulations

The Principal has the authority to defer admission for one school day in order that enquiries of the previous school are carried out in the interests of the student.

Students will be allocated to classes according to a combination of class size and student need.

School tours can be arranged, with further information available on the school’s website:

Student Reports Senior School Winter Sports Day 14th June

Soccer The girls and boys soccer teams played against 3 other schools at Knox soccer field. The boys’ soccer team sadly lost all games with the scores of 16-1, 3-2, and 6-0 which means they will not qualify for division. Meanwhile the girls’ soccer team won a game and lost the other two. Scores were 2-0, 1-2 and the last game was 4-0 Overall, both teams did not qualify for division but everyone showed great sportsmanship and enthusiasm. Well done girls and boys! Written by Gisella and Vanessa

Volleystars The senior years participated in the Wantirna District Volleystars Tournament. Volleystars is a modified version of volleyball made easier for our age group (10 & 11yrs). The boys’ team played and won the game against Rowville PS with set 1 being 9 to 20 and set 2 being 17 to 20. The boys then played St Andrews PS and won the game with set 1 being 16 to 20 and set 2 being 15 to 20. The last game Heany Park PS won again with the scores being 7 to 20. Overall the boys won all 3 games and won the Tournament! The girls team played Rowville PS winning the game with set 1 being 16 to 20 and set 2 being 14 to 20. Heany Park PS Vs St Andrews PS and won the first set 14 – 20 and also the second 10 – 20, the last game for the Heany Park Girls was against Boronia Heights PS. We ended up winning that last game too, first set was 25 – 9 and second was 25 – 16. Overall the boys and girls from Heany Park showed great teamwork and commitment! GO HEANY PARK!!! Written by Ethan and Larni

T ball The boys played 3 games. The first game for the boys was against Wantirna South PS. We played well in the first match and won 12 to 8. The second game we got absolutely demolished against Knox Gardens PS and lost 2 to 7. We did not field that well so we lost. The 3rd game was really close against Mountain Gate PS but we managed to pull through and win the game 13 to 11. The girls only played 2 matches. The first game only had 1 point difference, with them winning against Knox Gardens PS, 9 to 8. The second game was against Mountain Gate PS, which they won 9 to 6. Well done to all the students for their great effort and enjoyment of the day! Written by: Saurabh and Jared

Netball The Year 5 and 6 netball teams, A and B played a series of games and did very well. Netball A won their first and second but unfortunately got beaten in the last game. Team B also did very well as they won their second game, and tied their final game. Both teams trained and did well on the day and during preparation. This experience was a great chance for people to try a different sport that they may not have played before. Unfortunately, our B Team had a bye for their first game so didn’t get to play. Both teams could have improved on communication and other netball skills. Congratulations to all the schools/teams that played. We hope you had a good time and enjoyed the experience of playing netball.
