Despite the government claiming of having made “ade- quate arrangements”, the parents and their wards faced tough time to reach exam centres on time in view of restrictions and shut- down. Parents alleged that despite the announcements made by the authorities that roll number slips of the students would be treated as curfew pass, the forces restricted their movement at various places and didn’t listen to their pleas. A group of parents who were accompanying their wards for the NEET exams at SP College and Amar Singh College complained of frequent halts by forces while their journey to examination cen- tres. “We were stopped at number of places while on our way to exam centre,” said Ajaz Ahmad, a parent who had left his residence along with his daughter at 5 am on motorbike to reach SP College. Another parent, Zamrooda who was accompanying her son to the examination centre said that they were not allowed to cross Khanyar Chowk. “My son started to cry but then some locals helped us in persuading police to allow us to proceed to the exam centre,” she said. NEET was conducted at three facilitation centres in Srinagar and five centres in Jammu. Out of around 4841 students, 4453 appeared in the test in the State marking an overall presence of 87.74 percent. The test was con- ducted by the Central Board of School Education (CBSE) throughout the country today. In Kashmir, out of 1740 students, 1621 appeared in the test at three designated centres at SP College Srinagar, Amar Singh College Srinagar and DPS Humhama marking an overall presence of 93 percent. A statement issued by the state government said that arrangements of transport and boarding and lodg- ing were made by all the District Development Commissioners for the convenience of the students appearing in the test. It stated that Minister for Education, Naeem Akhtar today visited various examination centres in Srinagar to person- ally take stock of the arrange- ments made for the smooth con- duct of the test. The Minister was informed that out of 600 students, 555 appeared in the test at SP Col- lege; out of 600 students, 571 appeared at Amar Singh Col- lege and out of 540 students, 495 appeared at DPS Humhama respectively. Akhtar was accompanied by Secretary Higher Educa- tion, Hemant Kumar; Direc- tor Colleges, Tariq Ahmad Kawoosa; Government of India observers and CBSE representatives.
