DySP Traffic Ganderbal, Riyaz Ahmad, told Greater Kashmir around 450 LMVs, stranded at Sonamarg for past two days, were allowed to move towards Kargil. He said that it became possible only after all the stranded vehicles on Zojila Pass were able to move and reach Sonamarg safely. Earlier in the day, divi- sional commissioner Kash- mir ordered closure of the 434-km long highway due to slippery road condition. However the order was reviewed later by allowing stranded LMVs at Sonamarg to move towards Kargil. However, heavy vehicles including trucks loaded with essentials and pas- sengers buses are still stranded at Sonamarg wait- ing for green signal to move towards Kargil and Leh. Officials said that heavy vehicles will be allowed to move towards Kargil on Wednesday if weather and road conditions are feasible.
