     There are a growing number of film productions coming frombilingual countries or communities with languages that are notspoken outside of their frontiers. These films may therefore havea small domestic market, less visibility, as well as a more difficultaccess to the international cultural market. However, in recentyears new filmographies have been enriching the Europeanscene, sometimes from the peripheries, sometimes from newly

    autonomous nations, with an increasing level of creative andindustrial maturity.Sharing experiences and knowing each other, as well as eachother’s policies, can generate a valuable exchange of ideas whenfaced with key challenges such as visibility, internationalization,sustainability and coproduction options for our filmographies.

    Film Import Support (Finnish Film Foundation) providesaid for the importation of films intended for cinemarelease and regular film festivals’ international programpurchases.     - RE-ACT (Regional Audiovisual Cooperationand Training): it is a new initiative set up byCroatian Audiovisual Centre, Friuli VeneziaGiulia Audiovisual Fund and Slovenian Film

    Centre in collaboration with TorinoFilmLabaimed in developing new audiovisual projectsand fostering international co-productions. It isaimed at filmmakers and producers who wishto foster closer ties within Croatia, Friuli VeneziaGiulia (IT) and Slovenia and consists of: RE-ACTWorkshop and RE-ACT Co-Development Fund.

    - RE-ACT workshop is a brand newdevelopment workshop which will take placealongside the TorinoFilmLab internationalFrameWork programme.

    - RE-ACT Co-Development Fund is a co-development fund that will support a maximumof 6 projects with a minimum financial supportof 10.000 Euros per project per year.

    - When east meets west: is a co-productionevent organized by the FVG Audiovisual Fundin cooperation with the Trieste Film Festivaland EAVE, and the support of the MEDIAProgramme of the European Union and theCentral European Initiative.     - The FVG Film Commission has developed theproject in collaboration with the SLOVENIANFILM FUND and the CROATIAN AUDIOVISUALCENTER, so to welcome every year oneproducer from each of the three neighbouringcountries and strength the collaboration withSouth-East European audiovisual professionals. At the end of September the city of Gorizia wil lhost both the third session of the internationalprogramme and the first edition of the Eurodoctrans-regional workshop, offering to a groupof 12 professionals (4 from Slovenia, 4 fromCroatia and 4 from Friuli Venezia Giulia), a full

    access to this training course alongside theother European participants.

    In 2007 we organized in Udine a meetingdedicated to audiovisual production in minoritylanguage and one of the priorities was to find away to have regions with less used languagesmore involved in co-production and co-distribution of these films. Unfortunately afterthis meeting we did not succeed in creating anetwork capable to share and face the commonchallenges. Apart from this experience we didnot have any other initiative related to minoritylanguage audiovisual production.

     The Galway region is the most active audiovisualregion in Ireland outside of the Dublin area. Manyof the production companies in the region servicethe Irish language Broadcaster TG4 but many alsowork internationally. There is a Film Studio in theregion with plans underway to establish another in

    the near future. A Film Festival takes place every July with aninternational market the Galway Film Fair.

     Audiovisual activity made a direct contribut ion of€72million to the economy of Galway in 2012.
