PRINCIPALS REPORT Presentation Assembly Our Badge Presentation Assembly will be held on Monday 20 th March for all of our student lead- ers in Year 6 as well as our SRC representa- tives. Our local member of State Parliament, Mr. Paul Edbrooke will be our special guest for the assembly. Students have been given their roles and are already starting to demonstrate how responsible they are by fulfilling these roles. We wish our new School Leaders lots of success as they begin their various roles and we are looking forward to this continuing to be a positive exam- ple for our school community. The badge presentation is a few weeks later this year as the process was interrupted by our Year 5/6 stu- dents having camp in February. Swimming Results Congratulations to all five of our students who participated in the Zone swimming carnival this week. All of our students swam well but a special mention to Seb Hutchinson who has qualified for the Divisional competition. We wish him all the best as he continues on. School Council We had our first School Council meeting on Wednesday evening (which is the final meeting of the 2016 council.) At this meeting many issues were discussed. Camps and Curriculum Days were approved by council and many other issues were discussed. Our camps for 2016 are as follows; Year 5/6 have already participated in the Urban camp and Year 3/4 will be off to Phillip Island in November. We will also be offering the Mt Buller Snow Camp to our senior students in July as well as participating in the RACV Energy Breakthrough in November. Our remaining three curriculum days are as fol- lows; Spelling / Writing / Vic Curriculum - Friday 10th March. Report Writing Day – Friday 9th June and Team meetings and preparation for 2018 - Fri- day 22 nd December (last day of school). On these days, children are not required at school. Curriculum Day As mentioned above, next Friday 10 th March is our first Curriculum day for the year. This has been advertised on our school notice board for a week and a half now. On this day our staff will be very busy working on improving our knowledge and skills related to teaching Spelling, Writing Friday 3rd March 2017 Dont cope alone! Many thanks to Sam Smith and Virginia McKenzie for their assistance with this race and to all of the parents who attended to lend a hand. Every Day Counts – Student Attendance It is extremely important that all of our students attend school on a regular basis. This gives them the best opportunity to learn and to achieve the best results possible. This year we are aiming to have our attendance figures equal to or better than the state average, something that we have not done at Frankston Primary School for many years. Please help us to achieve this by making sure your child is at school every day. Building Refurbishment Things are beginning to take shape with our new classrooms. Our builders have been busy doing all of the structural changes to the interior and much of the framing has been completed as well. There have been a few little hold ups along the way re- lated to the structural steel but these have been sorted out and new steel has now been installed. Plastering and the internal fit out will begin shortly and then we will see amazing progress over the next few weeks. Because of these hold ups, the completion date has been put back a few weeks and we are now looking at the first few weeks of term 2 before we will be able to move in. Most impressive is the Junior School hub, where we will have amphitheatre type seating for small assem- blies and activities. We are all very excited to see the finished product and to move into what will be, state of the art teaching and learning spaces. Have a great weekend everyone, and enjoy the warm weather. FRANKSTON PRIMARY SCHOOL JOINS THE FRANKSTON VENTANA FIESTA

Frankston Primary School and the ‘Ventana Fiesta’ Frankston Primary School students from Grades 1-6 are taking part in Cultural studies experiences from Argentina this term. Children have been taking part in workshops here at school with artists from the Frankston Arts Centre to learn about the ‘Murga Festival’ (pronounced ‘Moorga’), a festi-val to celebrate the environment and our indigenous animals and plants. Students have been mak-ing masks, costumes and props all from recycled materials in their Visual Arts classes and have been learning the rhythms and dances of the Murga. They have also contributed to composing and writing an original school song especially for the festival. These elements will all combine to cre-ate a parade and performance for the ‘Ventana Fiesta’ in Frankston on Saturday 11th March. Students and families are invited to take part in the Ventana Fiesta. This will be the culmination of the wonderful work that the students, artists and teachers have completed. There was a small group from Frankston PS who came to the Ventana Fiesta last year and it was a fantastic experience and an inspiring community event to be involved in. I encourage everyone to come along this year and join in the fun! Families will bring their students to the event, stay to watch the performance and collect their chil-dren after the show. We will be meeting at the Hoyts Cinema complex on Wells Street in Frank-ston on Saturday 11th March at 11am. FPS students will then take part in a special parade along Wells Street and Shannon Mall before finishing with a display performance on the stage in front of the Cinemas. We would love as many families as possible to come to the Fiesta with their students, to join in this fantastic Frankston cultural experience that shouldn’t be missed! We look forward to seeing you there! Please note that parents are re-sponsible for their own children at this event. Thank-you, Ms Grage-Moore.

Ventana Festival Opening Last Thursday night, Ms Grage-Moore attended the official opening of the ‘Ventana Fiesta’ at Cube 37 at the Frank-ston Arts Centre. It was a fantastic event with lots of colour, music, food and costumes all from Latin America, Portugal and Spain. There were professional artists presenting the dance and music of the ‘Murga Festival’, and many important guests from Argentina, Chile and Spain as well as a representative from the Victorian Multi-Cultural Commission. I also saw another student from Frankston Primary School there as well! A part of this festival is a fantastic parade through Frank-ston on Saturday March 11th, a bit like our own Moomba Parade here in Frankston, which all Frankston Primary School students from grades 1-6 are invited to be a part of. I’m very excited to join in again this year and I hope lots of other students are too!

SCHOOL UNIFORM SWAP DAY THURSDAY 9TH MARCH 3:00PM

We are providing parents with the opportunity to get together next week to either swap, sell or donate school uniforms that you no longer need. If you are wanting to swap or sell school uniform you must be at the school in person on the day or organise another friend to do this on your behalf. The school takes no responsibility for the selling of uniform as this is just an opportunity provided to parents to do this on the day. There will be a donation table in the office courtyard where parents are able to leave donated uniform which will be sold off on the day by one of our School Council members as part of our fundraising activities. All uniforms exchanged on the day MUST be washed and in suitable condition.

CLEAN UP AUSTRALIA DAY This coming Sunday 5th March is Clean Up Australia Day. There are lots of events in the local community that you can get involved in. You can find these events and register to join

in online at: www.cleanupaustraliaday.org.au

Next week as part of Clean Up Schools Week at Frankston Primary School there will be lots of opportunities for students to learn about how much rubbish we generate at school, the impact of rubbish and ways that students can come up with solutions to manage and reduce rubbish and therefore protect our environment. From Monday to Thursday there will be educational activities inside and outside classrooms and all classes will be cleaning up and caring for different areas of the school.

‘SUNNYSIDE UP’ BREAKFAST CLUB STARTS AGAIN NEXT WEEK We are pleased to announce that ‘Sunnyside Up Club’ (School Breakfast Program) resumes again this year and will start next week. It will operate this term on Wednesday and Friday mornings from 8:30 til 8:50am. This is a free breakfast program that ensures all children have a hearty breakfast to start their day. Please see the notice sent out with today’s newsletter for details on how you might support our School Breakfast Club.
