Primož Banovec presented the basics rules of EU tenders, what to include that the application has a chance to be accepted for funding. More specifically he presented the main features of the EU MED program, which will announce a call on 15 June 2015. Eligible countries are the EU Member States: France, Greece, Croatia, Italy, Slovenia, and Spain. The program includes four types of sites which pose significant challenges in resource management and development and economic problems: coastal, urban, rural areas, islands.

The overall objective of the MED Programme is to promote sustainable growth in the Mediterranean area by fostering innovative concepts and practices and a reasonable use of resources and by supporting social integration through an integrated and territorially based cooperation approach.

For the Cres project the most appropriate is the priority 3 in the MED program, which is about the protection and promotion of the Mediterranean natural and cultural resources, and includes pressures, climate change, islands and urban development.

After the introductory presentation of the MED program the participants presented the needs of the island, which should be included in the project:

• Protection of Lake Vrana, with respect to climate change and monitoring of the condition in the underground, which would enable active management system for timely warning of the risk for salinisation of the lake.

• To check the permissible quantity of water abstraction from lake without the risk of sea water intrusion. To assess possible impact of climate change as well as of increased consumption, especially during the tourist season.

4th IDMP Workshop, Bucharest 21/22 April 2015April 20156/8 www.gwpcee.org

• Water supply network modernization, planning water tanks of sufficient volumes, reflection on the waste water management

• Evaluate the possibility to use the treated waste water as a resource and on the other hand to assess the impact of discharging poorly treated waste water into the environment (ground or sea).

• To assess the best waste water treatment and possible reuse, also as a

• Protection and revitalization of small retentions (in Croatian “vaške lokve”) for the needs of the animals, fire safety in the areas without water supply, irrigatio source of plant nutrients.n. To assess the possible impact of climate change on the small retentions ecosystem.

• Additional cleaning of the drainage water from the road released from the separators in the influence area of the Lake Vrana in the constructed wetland and using treated water as a resource.

• It is very important to involve the local communities to the project preparation process as soon as possible. There is a big difference between the way of development of Cres and Lošinj and it is necessary to find acceptable solution for both local communities.

• Primož Banovec prepared the first draft of the project proposal, and the participants agreed it is possible to include all proposed activities. The basic idea of the project proposal is to make the water balance of the island. The island is a bounded unit and it is possible to prepare the water balance, although certain problem represents the not yet well known exchange of water between the sea and land.

• Meeting at the local comunity• On Thursday, 09/04/2015 we met the mayor of

the city Cres Mr. Kristijan Jurjako and his co-workers. They promised full support to the project, which is estimated to be important for the island.

• They asked us to send a Letter of Intent to them. We all agreed that it is necessary to involve the mayor of the city Mali Lošinj and the mayor of the Primorje Goransko County. Both meetings will be organized as soon as possible and will be attended by the delegation of working group members.
