From Our PTA PresidentHello Bailey Lake Families!

Parent volunteers o er a huge resource and support base for many of the activities that take place throughout the school year. Volunteer-ing is a great way to be involved in your childs education and meet new people. We could not provide our children with all of these wonderful activities without the help of the many dedicated parents here at Bailey Lake. Thank you to all who take your time to make this school such a wonderful place for our children!

March is reading month, and to celebrate the reading committee has purchased a book for every classroom to used as a read aloud. The theme of On Fire for Reading was chosen and each classroom is reading a dragon themed book. Grades K-2 are reading My Fathers Dragon, by Ruth Stiles. Grades 3-5 are reading Dragon Rider, by Cornelia Funke. The goal is to create a book club atmosphere, and promote literacy. Thank you to Laura Cadreau to organizing this for our students!

The talent show which took place March 5, displayed the many special talents of our student body. It was great fun for all who participated and attended. A big thank you to Melissa Snyder for organizing this event!

Dont forget that Seuss fair is right around the corner, April 17 from 6:00-8:30 pm. This free event will be lled with games and activities for all to enjoy.

Thank you to all of the parents who planned and attend the Valentines parties! The children always remember these special events.

Why the PTA?The PTA, Parent Teacher Association, is the largest child advocacy association in the United States. PTA has been around since 1897, more than 100 years. Not many organizations last this long! BLE PTA is a non-pro t organization that belongs to the Michigan PTA, which, in turn, is a part of the National PTA.

What does my joining the PTA really mean to Bailey Lake Elementary? There is power in numbers. The PTA sup-ports and speaks on behalf of the children not only at school but in the community, the government, and other organizations. When you join the PTA, you are adding one more voice in support of your school and your student. BLE PTA is dedicated to making this school the best environment for educating our students. By joining, you are endorsing the activities the PTA provides to all children.

If I join the PTA, do I have to volunteer? No. By joining the PTA you are not signing up to volunteer. You show your support for the PTA programs and other activities even if you dont have time to be physi-cally present. However, if you would like to volunteer, you will be most welcome!

What if I can only volunteer once in a while?Any time you can volunteer is greatly appreciated. It is all vital to achieving the goals of the PTA and the school commu-nity. Even one hour a school year is of a bene t!

Do I have to come to school to volunteer? No. There are many activities that can be done away from the school and are of a great bene t to our programs and events.

I am signed up as a volunteer; does that make me a member of the PTA?No, you are not a PTA member unless you pay dues, but your help as a volunteer is greatly appreciated.

If I join the PTA, do I have to attend the PTA meetings? No. We encourage you to attend as many meetings as you can to learn what is going on in school and to help shape PTA priorities; however, you are not required to attend meetings.
