While on missed lesson or class will not be made up, if there is a second cancellation due to bad weather, arrangements may be made to make up the lost time by adding additional time to remaining classes, depending on the course. In case of inclement weather during swimming lessons, a water safety lesson will be given in lieu of water time. The City of Georgetown Parks and Recreation will make all lesson cancellations due to inclement weather with the safety of our participants in mind and cancellations will be made 30 minutes prior to class.

CHALLENGE COURSEActivity Examples Low Element: “TP Shuffle” Ever walked across a downed tree? Think you could switch places with someone while on it? Let’s see how well your entire group could rearrange themselves, while in the same situation. Think it’s easy? Try us.

StaffOur staff is trained in accordance with the Association for Challenge Course Technology (ACCT) Practitioner Certification Standards. Facilitators will guide your group to make the connection between the experience and real life application through focused discussion after each activity. As part of this group focus, we also provide the opportunity for personal growth, gained insight, a renewed spirit, and energy accomplished through shared success.

Nestled among the trees lining the North San Gabriel River, the Georgetown Challenge Course utilizes play, adventure and fun in an outdoor setting. The basic focus of a challenge course program is teamwork, effective communication, and problem solving. The course consists of numerous low element activities, 22 high elements, and a climbing & rappel tower.

The Program Basic programs consist of a progression of activities and may be 4-hour or 6-hour sessions. Each session begins with initiative and low element activities before progressing to highs. Two hour specialty clinics are also available such as rappelling and climbing clinics. Based on the information we receive about your group, we then design a program based on your specific goals. Programming considerations are: -Group type (businesses, churches, schools, etc.)-Length of program (4-6 hours) -Number of participants (10 minimum)-Physical abilities-Age of participants (minimum age of ten) -Group goals/expectations

FRIENDS OF GEORGETOWN PARKS & RECREATION

Memorial Tree & BenchAre you looking for a special way to mark the birth of a child, grandchild or celebrate a special birthday? Having trouble finding a unique wedding or anniversary gift? Looking for a way to memorialize loved ones who have passed away? Donating a memorial tree or bench to the City of Georgetown Parks and Recreation Department is the perfect way to commemorate all these occasions. There are few other gifts that will be as long lasting as a tree. A tree will immortalize your personal occasion, and a bench will give you and your family a place to go to remember. Either of these gifts will give back to your community in ways no other gift can. Memorial trees and benches will provide for a more enjoyable recreation experience for the citizens and visitors of Georgetown for many years to come. For more information about this program, please call Urban Forester, Heather Brewer McFarling, at (512) 930-6113 or email [email protected]. Please visit our website at parks.georgetown.org/forestry/memorial-tree-memorial-bench

Volunteer OpportunitiesIf you enjoy working outdoors and volunteering, the City of Georgetown’s Urban Forestry department could use your time and talents! If you want to add your name to an email list or are trying to organize a work day contact Heather Brewer McFarling, Urban Forester, at [email protected] or call (512) 930-6113.

Will you help us make a difference? The mission of the “Friends of Georgetown Parks & Recreation” is to support the City of Georgetown Parks & Recreation Department in providing programs and facilities to promote the social, cultural and recreational well-being of all residents of the City of Georgetown. We have the following avenues to help us accomplish this goal:

* Build a volunteer base to enhance the success of the many recreation and parks activities and projects.

* Raise funds through tax-deductible memberships, donations and other activities to provide opportunities such as camp scholarships, swim lessons, tennis lessons and recreation center memberships for those who would benefit but cannot financially participate in these health, fitness and wellness related activities.

* Apply for grants and raise funds to assist with capital projects that are warranted within the Parks & Recreation Department.

* Promote and support the Parks & Recreation Department activities and projects through public awareness.
