    Dear Reader,

Welcome to the second issue ofThe Call, which is all about the star feature of both our

community and the entire Blue Ridge area: the Unbelievably Great Outdoors. For centuries, people have headed to these hills for escape, adventure, relaxation, and reunion. In this

issue we introduce you to our Top 10 adventure destinations, as well as some of our members

favorite natural attractions found right here, within our 6,200-acre property.

As BRMC continues to grow, our appreciation for this exceptional land grows with

it, informing the planning of everything from community events to amenity timing.

Sustainability-, family-, and future-focused ethics are in place to preserve our National Park-

grade backyard for generations to come; programming is designed to bring members closer

to nature and each other; and amenity planning is increasingly centered on celebrating what

we have: an incredible property, wonderful people, and a bright future. The heart of BRMC is

already coming together, with the Park and Pavilion at Watson Gap; while the many fire rings,

natural overlooks, camping sites, and trailheads hidden across the property help us discover

    its soul.

With the economic situation creating uncertainty in the marketplace, the Blue Ridge

Mountain Club management team is focused on safeguarding both the community experience

and our members investment. By not over-burdening our existing membership with costly

fees and assessments, and allowing landmark-amenity construction to take a short-term

backseat in favor of more affordable and prudent solutions, like Outbound and our Play

Now! program (which will give BRMC members access to the best golf, skiing, spas, and many

more outstanding Blue Ridge experiences right away), we can continue to offer a debt-free and

    secure community experience.

Steady progress is our overture and creating value is our creed. Keep reading to find out

why Blue Ridge Mountain Club is considered the Best Value in the High Country by locals andprofessionals alike. Keep tabs on membership and community developments via our website

(www.BlueRidgeMountainClub.com), and learn more about our Play Now! program (coming

    this winter!).

    Happy reading, exploring, and adventuring!

    Sincerely,

Jim PittsGeneral ManagerBlue Ridge Mountain Club

Few places symbolize genuine adventure like these legendary mountains, which is why Blue Ridge Mountain

Club (BRMC) takes great pride in ensuring members are truly outtted for life here. Outbound, BRMCs adventure

program, is already getting families up-close and personal with our National Park-grade land, and will eventually be

based in Watson Gaps fully-stocked Outtter adjoining the General Store . Download the Watson Gap village plan.

A ready-for-anything attitude and welcoming comfort food make Blowing Rock theideal basecamp for exploring the many wonders of this vast and breathtaking area.

#1. Know Thy AreaKnowing what youre talking about when selling outdoor survival gear is supremelyimportant lives can depend upon it! Having lived to tell the tale of many tangles

with nature, Brian and the rest of the Footsloggers staff are not only experts inassessing what gear is best for any outdoor adventure, they also know this area likethe backs of their hands. Wondering where to nd a kayaking or rock-climbingguide? Or just want some advice on the most scenic, not-too-extreme hiking trails?Footsloggers is as ready to point you in the right direction as to ensuring youreready to face anything Mother Nature tosses in your path.

#2. Sell Only Good StuffStocking only the highest quality items takes much of the guesswork out of shoppingat Footsloggers. Founder and General Manager Jason Berry has always taken a hands-on approach to running this outpost; selecting and tweaking inventory as necessary,

and ensuring that anything you purchase from Footsloggers will stick by you, nomatter what you put it through. #3. Love Where You LiveFootsloggers devotion to the Blue Ridge area is essential to surviving in small,tourism-driven towns. The infectious friendliness Blowing Rock is known for ischampioned by people like Brian, who treats every patron, new or seasoned, like anold friend. A warm reception and referrals to other local businesses whether for abite, a good nights sleep, or a personalized adventure is all part of the good naturethat keeps Blowing Rock so beautiful, according to Brian; People have worked reallyhard to keep Blowing Rock small and tight-knit, with all the elements people want outof a mountain community. Nothing works up an appetite like excursions in the

great outdoors, and no place is as ready to satiate your

hunger and thirst upon your return as Six Pence Pub.

Blowing Rocks local English Pub, Six Pence counts patrons

from as far as Raleigh and Charlotte among its regulars,

who come for the warm atmosphere, comfort food, and

outstanding selection of beer, wine, and spirits the biggest

in Watauga County. Head Bartender Erik Christoferson

refers to the ctional bar from the televesion seriesCheers when asked to describe Six Pence; Were the place

where it doesnt matter who you are, man or woman, you

can sit down at the bar and feel safe; and at pretty much any

time, youre going to meet somebody you can talk to.

In talking to long-time and rst-time visitors to

Blowing Rock, Six Pence gets rave reviews for friendliness

and food. Classics like Fish n Chips, Bangers n Mash,

and Shepherds Pie have made devotees of many, while the

prompt and attentive service is always remarked upon. Six

Pence is especially a destination for beer acionados, with

Erik going out of his way to ensure a wide variety of beer

types are available, from high gravity to micro breweries. Of

course, being an English Pub also means carrying classics

like Speckled Hen and Hob Goblin. You wont nd any

domestics on draught here (bottles only), but with an array

of imports from California to New York, there is much to

    discover for adventurous taste buds.

As a place that serves traditional favorites all year

round, it makes sense that Six Penc e is also as reliable

as postal service come snow, rain, heat, or gloom ofnight, its always open, and serves food later than any

other establishment in Blowing Rock (until 10:30 p.m.

Sunday through Thursday, and until midnight on Fridays

and Saturdays). The recent addition of patio seating offers

another opportunity to enjoy the comfortable climate, and

adds bright and airy to its usual description of warm and

cozy. For a decade, Six Pence has enjoyed a happy existence

on Main Street, and will be there, come rain or shine, to

welcome you after your next Blue Ridge adventure.

There are two opposing sides to Blue Ridge Mountain Club; one

soft, one rugged; one mild, one extreme; one tame, one wild.

They could easily be at odds. Yet like the summer and year-round

residents of this area who mix and mingle as equals, there is an

earnest harmony and grave respect between this land in all its

moods and its inhabitants, in all their living patterns human orotherwise.

BRMC Wild AreasWe call them parks, yet similar to Americas great National Parks in terms

of the size of our property, remoteness of our creeks, and land protected

in perpetuity, there is no mistaking the pristine wilderness of Blue Ridge

Mountain Clubs undeveloped areas. Linked by a vast network of hiking

trails, all BRMC property owners have privileged access to a wealth of scenic

natural wonders, and endless opportunities to experience our

    Unbelievably Great Outdoors.
