Mountain Alliance programming calendar for fall 2010

  • Dear Students and Parents,

    is Fall Mountain Alliance will once again oer a wide variety of service and ad-venture programs for high school aged youth in Watauga County. ere are many exciting opportunities to participate in including traditional favorites like climbing, camping, backpacking, Hospitality House service, Big Sweep and Elk Knob trail creation.

    Other activities that will only happen this fall are; a new Geocaching program where students will have a chance to learn how to use GPS devices to nd hidden caches around the school. Even more excited for students is the $30 stipend they get for helping complete the course for a study being conducted by ASU. We have added a few new oerings for this fall including, Minute to Win-It, Rocky Knob Bike trail creation, and a Pisgah 2 day service and adventure program for 9th graders.

    OOne thing to count on is our ursday Membership Meetings. ese take place every other ursday and always have a lot of fun and food, students are wel-come to bring a friend.

    Parents please consider joining our parent advisory committee that helps with Mountain Alliance projects. Please note our new oce phone number 828-263-1770 and feel free to call with any questions.

  • General Program and Trip DescriptionsAll trips meet at Watauga High School in the Mountain Alliance room. After school trips meet @ 3:30 so

    students will have time to stop by their locker on the way. The majority of Mountain Alliance trips are suitable for beginners, so everyone is welcome! Students that have filled out and turned in a membership application are

    welcome to sign up for any outing offered. Specific trip details will be given at membership meetings. Call Mountain Alliance at 263-1770 or check out our website www.mountainalliance.org for more information.

    Bigger School Bigger AdventuresThis fall, Mountain Alliance has a full and exciting calendar! It is important to attend the all member bi monthly

    Membership Meetings to save your spot on these exciting spring adventures. If you miss a meeting, stop by the MA room to find out what you missed! Check out some sneak peeks into your future adventures

    Pisgah Overnights: Mountain Alliance is partnering up with ASU to offer two different overnight trips in the Pisgah Forest! Satisfy your taste for adventure on this trip filled with both backpacking and rock climbing.

    Freshman, this trip is specifically designed for you! Meet new people and learn new things. Beginners welcome! If youre free on Thursdays and want to learn the basics of climbing before the overnight, join

    Mountain Alliance for any or all of the Footsloggers Climbing Trips!

    Biking Extravaganzas: Thats right; Mountain Alliance is offering some biking trips again this fall! Both in town and in the mountains, well be learning new skills and having a great time on two wheels. No need to

    have your own bike, weve got great ones for you to use. If biking sounds like something youd like to get into, join us for any of our biking outings this fall! Get ready to ride!

    Hospitality House: Community service is a big part of Mountain Alliance. Were offering several trips where you can give back to the community! The second Monday of every month, Mountain Alliance will be cooking dinner for the folks at the Hospitality House. Come ready to cook up a storm and have a great time

    doing it!

    Geocaching: Whats geocaching? you might ask well join us and find out! Youll be using a handheld GPS to navigate through a high-tech treasure hunting game. Sign- up on your own or with friends and be

    prepared for a day of fun and exploration in the outdoors.
