Strategic + Tactical Thinking = Strengths for Success

Strategic thinking enables an organization to sort through the clutter and fi nd the best route to success. A strong strategic team is able to identify patterns in complexity, uses these patterns to plan, and then asks, “What If ?”

Tactical thinking transforms plans into action. A strong tactical team understands the goals of the larger organization, connects individual roles to organizational success, and then asks “When Can We Start?”

Strategic leaders lead with ideas. Tactical leaders lead with action. In this workshop, you will learn how to build on your strategic and tactical strengths, and develop effective teams with these strengths in mind.

Cost-Free Recognition

Most research shows that appreciation is the #1 priority of employees and that monetary rewards are not the best way to express appreciation. We will explore symbolic rewards that may cost a dollar, a meal or a celebration break to generate much better morale and performance. In these tough times when hard work is less frequently rewarded with big results, you and your leadership team need to make recognition priority #1. You will leave with a list of proven, creative techniques and resources.

Training Tip: Training Result IndicatorsBy Glen Fahs, Director of Training & Organization DevelopmentCascade Employers Association

Most managers evaluate training based on enrollment, reaction sheets, behavior change, and praise from participants and their managers. While such indicators are important, there are more signifi cant measures of results. Training doesn’t get results in isolation. Management gets results – using training as a resource. But just as a healthy budget, information system or strategic plan can be monitored for effectiveness, there are some indicators of training’s success beyond whether people liked it.

Indicators of Successful Training

Compare trained versus untrained managers or other employees to bottom line results such as:

Sales ■

Grievances and Destructive Confl icts ■

Workers' Compensation Costs and Safety ■

Absenteeism ■

Productivity ■

Overtime Cost Management ■

Customer Ratings (e.g., satisfaction, loyalty) ■

Ratings of Managers on Opinion Surveys ■

Performance Profi ciency Benchmarks ■

Ratings by Government Inspectors ■

Absence of Legal Suits ■

Employee Loyalty and Retention ■

Warning: The biggest factor in getting results from your learning investment is whether managers credibly emphasize the training’s value before it starts (prepare participants) and reinforce the importance of apply-ing what was learned afterward (accountability).
