Crafting a Revenue Rebound

Do you fi nd yourself making statements like, “Our sales have topped out” or “We’re in a sales slide”? Wouldn’t it feel great to say, “We’re having a sales rebound”? A Revenue Rebound occurs when key sales decisions are made from a strategic perspective, and it begins at the top. If the business leaders are not focused on answering the right questions in the right way, the chances of successfully crafting a Revenue Rebound are greatly diminished.

Are you a top executive who wants to turn your revenue decline into revenue rebound? If so, this workshop is for you! You will learn how to:

Determine if you have the right “sales leadership” ■Focus on the “right targets” ■Pick the “right sales direction” ■Select the “right strategies” ■Develop and implement the “right sales systems ■and processes”Allocate the “right resources” ■Craft the “right plans” ■And implement with the “right follow through” ■

Training Tip: Planning Your LearningBy Glen Fahs, PhD, Training & Organization Development ConsultantCascade Employers Association

When prioritizing your training needs, it’s often helpful to use the journalists’ framework of answering Who, What, When, Where, Why and How.

Who: Most organizations give training priority to managers and professionals, often overlooking frontline employees who typically have less training and education and who may benefi t both mentally and emotionally. Employers who train all employees well are viewed as leaders who care and employees will in turn return that loyalty.

What: Two key skills in organizational success are customer service and teamwork. Is it time to strengthen the bonds you have with internal and external customers?

Whether they have leadership roles or not, your employees will have a better approach to work if they learn:How to deal with diffi cult people ■How to minimize negativity, rumor and gossip ■How to set, support and track goals ■How to disagree constructively and use a win-win approach to confl ict resolution ■

When: Going into a new role is a perfect time for training, since the individual is anxious to improve their competence. Some employers see the value of providing new employees a week or more of orientation before they are expected to know their jobs. Employees need to know the organization’s mission, vision, values, resources, policies, and procedures soon after arrival -- preferably getting a start during the hiring process; however, frequent short sessions work better than long ones.

Where: In-house training is usually conducted on-site, but investing in a retreat setting, hotel or other off-site meeting space can get people “out of the box” and away from distractions. It is illuminating how well employees are able to perform when they can’t run to a supervisor with every issue.

Why: Training helps prevent lawsuits, major confl icts, and accidents. Yes, safety experts say a positive organizational culture is a powerful force for safety. Training also develops clarity, commitment and better ways of getting the job done. Research shows that “opportunities to learn and grow” and “management support for development” improve retention, innovation, customer loyalty, productivity and profi tability.

How: Make it interactive and relevant. Rather than re-inventing the wheel, the best common approach is to work with a consultant who specializes in what you need. Public workshops help handle individual needs and give expo-sure to a wide variety of experiences. In-house training builds relationships, addresses team issues and supports people who are experiencing challenging changes. Make sure the consultant customizes before and during the training so the topics deal with real issues.

Most important determinants of lasting value from training

Strong partnership between 1. management and the trainer on the front end.Effective preparation of learners 2. by their supervisors so they enter the sessions committed to gaining specifi c skills.Follow up 3. by supervisors so the end of a training session is just the beginning.
