Board of Trustees Update:
Monday next week will see the Board of Trustees Elections process begin in earnest, with the call for
nominations. Every 18 months an election occurs to formally request expressions of interest from
parents and others within the school community. A number of positions on the board are due for
election in November. Raewyn, our Office Manager, is the school’s appointed Returning Officer. A
letter enclosing a nomination form and the election timetable, has been posted home today to all
families. If you have any questions about the election process or Board of Trustees roles, please talk
to Alison Finnie, the Acting Chairperson [email protected]

Talent Quest/Variety Show Rehearsal: All the children are very excited about our CTMS Talent
Quest/Variety Show this week and have been working hard, practicing their items. We are having a
rehearsal on Thursday morning at Cardinal McKeefry School, leaving CTMS at 9:15am. If parents would
like to drop their children off at Cardinal McKeefry at 9:30am, please let the school know. Please don’t
drop off any earlier as staff will not have arrived to supervise. We will be returning to Kelburn Park for
Rippa Rugby Sports in the afternoon.
Parent/Teacher/Student Interviews: We appreciated the time we were able to spend with families and
students discussing individual student learning and progress against the curriculum and National
Standards. Overall we have had very positive feedback on student learning for the year.
Chess Classes: Recently chess classes were offered at CTMS for after school on Thursdays for term 4. We
needed a minimum of 8 students for the classes to continue and unfortunately we didn’t have the required number.Feedback from some students suggested that the time clashed with after school commitments. There is apossibility for these classes to be held on Thursday lunchtimes instead. We would like to see if this time could bemore suitable for students. Again, there would be 8 classes at a cost of $85 for the term. Each class would bedivided into time for games amongst each other, and for lessons. The children have the opportunity to worktowards the NZCF badges which have 4 levels. Level one on the basic rules of chess, then progressively moredifficult levels on chess strategy. Level 1 has already been passed by two students in the first block of lessons inthe term 3 classes. The lessons are provided by a former NZ chess champion and aim to pass on the enjoyment ofplaying chess, as well as equip students for the skill to participate in junior chess tournaments. Please let us knowif your child is interested in attending these classes for term 4. We think this is a great opportunity for ourstudents and would like to see chess lessons continued at CTMS.Photos: School photos take place on Tuesday 4 October. Photo money due in on Friday 30th September.Head Lice: We have had notification of an outbreak of headlice at CTMS. Please check your child’s hair and treat.Spanish: Raquel completes her Spanish classes for the year as she returns to see her family in Argentina duringthe holidays. We would like to thank Raquel for all the work she has put into the lessons this year for our students. We also appreciate the extra work she has done in preparing our students for the Mexican Ambassador’s welcome
