The paradigm shift regarding the status symbols of ‘generation Y’ is complete: cars have become less popular and, instead, the focus is now very much on smartphones, tablet PCs and bicycles.

It’s considered ‘hip’ to travel to work on a high-end, custom-made bicycle. Soaring gas prices are – quite literally – fueling the lifestyle trend of ‘green living – green biking’.

The ‘Apple Effect’ has arrived in the bicycle sector: the importance of the latest technical innovation is increasingly being replaced by a new focus on excellent, pure design. While there is still demand for optimally equipped road bikes and MTBs, the crucial factor now is ‘reduction’: in German cities, speedy ’naked bikes’ with their minimalist retro look that features only the most essential of components, have caught on among those cyclists at the bleeding edge. These bicycles are defining a new urban lifestyle. Innovative small manufacturers are the sector’s design trendsetters.

The E-Bike-boom is still going strong: according to ZIV, the German association for the promotion of the common interests of the bicycle industry, 300,000 E-Bikes were sold in 2011. For 2012, new electric bikes and components are being announced: new automatic transmission systems, integrated smartphone navigation and innovative retrofittable components.

The product range in the bicycle market is becoming increasingly complex. The EUROBIKE AWARD, planned and organized by iF for the 8th time, has established itself as a reliable benchmark of quality. Consumers appreciate and use this valuable guidance and, for the bicycle industry, it has become an excellent marketing tool. Acknowledging products of outstanding ecological value and sustainability, this will be the fifth time that the EUROBIKE GREEN AWARD will be presented. On the following pages, you will find the terms and conditions for partici pa ting in this year’s EUROBIKE AWARD. You will also find an overview of which products can be registered in which category. An internationally renowned expert jury will assess and award the prizes to the best products.

This includes manufacturers, designers, sales representatives, importers or specialist retailers. Entries should reflect a particular level of innovation and design quality and should not have been on the market for more than two years prior to the date of the trade fair. There is no limit to the number of entries per contestant. The products submitted must not violate the patent and protective rights of other parties. The organizers assume no liability.

Judging session: August 14 + 15, 2012 Entrants will be informed of the jury’s decision by August 20, 2012. The selection of prizewinners will be made by a panel of experts within the framework of a nonpublic judging session. Manufacturers have no right to act as a juror. The jury decides by simple majority vote. There is no recourse to legal action, and no individual correspondence will be entered into. Out of the pool of the award winners, an additional group will be selected as the GOLD award winners. These awards are reserved for the most outstanding winners of the EUROBIKE AWARD 2012. Furthermore the EUROBIKE GREEN AWARD will be awarded to a product which has an outstanding ecological and sustainable value. These awards will not be announced until the awards ceremony.

The EUROBIKE AWARD seal will be presented to the exhibitor and/or manufacturer and the responsible designers. As a prizewinner you will receive two certificates and advertisingmaterials to support you in marketing your winning product(repro of logo, product hang tags and stickers). For as long as the product is on the market, you can advertise it as a winner of the EUROBIKE AWARD 2012.

The award ceremony takes place at the fashion show stage in the Foyer East, on the EUROBIKE fairground in Friedrichshafen at 6:00 p.m. on August 29, 2012.

Excellent products deserve their own special forum: all prize-winning products will be presented at a special display in the Foyer west at eurobiKe Friedrichshafen from August 29 – september 1, 2012.

All award-winning products will be sent automatically to the Messe Friedrichshafen. Winning contestants will receive detailed information on how to deliver their entries when they are advised of the judging results. Products should be delivered as originals. All deliveries and return shippings must be without any charges to the organizers.

If you have set up your products yourself, you will also have to disassemble them on the stated days and you will have to set them up again yourself for the design exhibition at the Messe Friedrichshafen.

The registrant will receive an invoice for the total amount from Messe Friedrichshafen. Should Messe Friedrichshafen not receive the participation fee by August 9, 2012 at the very latest, Messe Friedrichshafen shall reserve the right to di-sallow the entry. Should your entry not be received by us in time for adjudication, you will still be charged the full regis-tration fee. Cancellation is possible until August 7, 2012 in written form.

After you have personally registered, please submit a separate registration form for each item entered. For each item registration, we require a brief description of your product and its functions in English and German as well as two product photos. The automatic registration confirmation will contain an Entry ID, which you will need to quote when submitting your product as well as for all correspondence. Assuming your entry receives an award, your text and photos will be used for the iF online exhibition as well as for the press CD at the awards ceremony. All information will be taken from the online registration form. The organizers assume no liability for any incorrect or false information supplied.

We require functional original products. bicycles must be delivered completely assembled and ready to ride; iF will not assume any responsibility for assembly. Large items should be presented as scale models or in the form of large-format, illustrative photos consisting of different detail shots. Please ensure that there are no delivery charges payable by iF and that transport packaging is reusable. Defective or disposable packaging will not be used to return exhibits. The cost of any new packaging will be charged to the participant. Your entries must arrive at Kuehne + Nagel clear of any customs or tax charges. The registrant and / or submitter will be required to cover any return shipping charges as well as any applicable customs duties on the import or export side.

All entries, as well as all product- and transport packaging, must be clearly labeled with entry-ID and category number. If your consignment contains more than one entry, all entry-ID’s must be listed on the packaging.

Products that have to be mounted, are extremely large, difficult to handle, very heavy, complicated or delicate can be registered for self-assembly. The decision as to whether a contribution can be set up by the participant rests with iF. If you set up your product yourself, all necessary material and tools must be provided by you. Please inform your forwarding company if this applies to you, since any additional costs concerning delivery and collection will be charged to you. If you decide to set up your contribution yourself, you are also responsible for the disposal of any packaging material, dismantling and collecting your contribution after it has been evaluated by the jury. This also applies to products that have received an award. The award-winning products must be dismantled by 3 p.m. the day after the jury session because all these products are scheduled to be shipped to Friedrichshafen in the late afternoon.

Please note: there will be no return shipment for large-format photos. You will have to pay all fees and expenses related to the return of your products or to their disposal.

If you also need any non-award-winning products at EUROBIKE in Friedrichshafen, we would like to remind you that iF will not organize or assume the costs for the transportation of such items. Please consult your own logistics supplier and make the appropriate arrangements, if necessary, to have such items delivered to the show.

On Saturday, September 1, 2012, at 5 p.m. you have to pick up your award-winning products at the special display area in the Foyer West. If you are not going to be able to do so, the organizer Messe Friedrichshafen will arrange the reshipment of your product. The costs for packaging material and re-shipment will be charged to the participant. The participant is financially responsible in the case of any damages that might occur during the dismantling processes.

The contestant bears the charges for the delivery and return shipping of products to and from the judging and exhibition site. Products must be delivered in reusable packaging.
