Please RSVP for our upcoming Technical Session:

When: Wednesday May 27, 2015

The presentation will cover the following: LTE / Signal Leakage

This training session will focus on a growing challenge for many cable operators – Interference from LTE telephone networks in the 700 MHz range. Discussion points will illustrate why LTE has become an increasing issue, its potential to be a very significant interference source over a broader frequency range; how to identify it in your network, as well as how using quality cables and connectors can help mitigate this concern. Keep in mind Ingress is also an indication of signal egress or “Signal Leakage”.

Our presenter: Doug MacLeod - Director of Technical Services, PCT [email protected]

Doug MacLeod is a 43 year veteran of the cable industry, spending 25 years of it with several US MSOs,

including regional and corporate engineering positions. For the last 16 years, he has been with PCT

International, Inc., where he is Director of Technical Services. In this role, he provides a wide range of

training and technical support to customers worldwide and internally to PCT. Doug is a Senior Member

New Facility to Train Power Professionals — It’s All About the People

Executives with Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Cox, Bright House, SCTE, and host Alpha Technologies

convened to celebrate the grand opening of the new Alpha Training Center near Atlanta on Feb. 11.

At SCTE, I am fortunate to work with top engineers in our industry in the development of ANSI/SCTE

standards and operational practices, particularly those stemming from SCTE Energy 2020 efforts. Energy

2020 is painting the picture of what energy will look like for cable operators by the year 2020. Partner

companies like Alpha Technologies are contributing significant brushstrokes. The never-ending quest for

reducing trouble tickets requires an ever-increasing number of training opportunities to prevent human errors

that can affect the availability of power at critical facilities.

In keeping with SCTE’s mission as standards developer and technical trainer for the cable industry, I

relished the opportunity to meet with several cable operators at a brand-new, state-of-the-art, hands-on power

training facility at Alpha Technologies just outside Atlanta in February.

Along with celebrating the grand opening with the ribbon-cutting, we discussed the curricula for an upcoming

DC power training course to be provided by SCTE and hosted by this new Alpha training facility. DC power

leverages a resilient train of thought that strives for availability in the use of batteries and rectification.

Toward continuously improving power availability for facilities, the new training will look to deepen the

trainee’s mastery of: DC Fundamentals; Electrical Safety and Theory; Batteries; Distribution; Monitoring;

System Sizing and Design; Grounding; Surge; DC Equipment

When working with power equipment, both theoretical training and hands-on training are important given the

safety implications. This new Alpha facility will offer the cable professional both opportunities at a single

location. Tools such as meters, crimpers, fasteners, and wire manipulation devices will be provided to the

student. SCTE is delighted to have Alpha’s strong support in raising the fundamental knowledge of our

industry’s general need for power and, in particular, DC powering essentials that will continue to play a

pivotal role in our critical facilities.
