    Most especially, to our eighteen new students to the

    Elementary School this week, and to the four new

    friendswhoarriveonMondaywelcomeandwehope

    yourfirstfewdaysat ISMhavebeen,andwillconnuetobe,excing.Nodoubt,forparentsandchildrenalike,

    yourheadswillbefilledwithnewnamesandfaces,new

    friendsandacvies,andpossibly,manyquesons.For

    students, our classroom teachers, specialists, guidance

    counselors, teaching assistants,office staff, and indeed

    administrators, are here to provide answers and

    support. For parents, all the aforemenoned are also

    here for you and are available to help out should you

    haveanyqueries. ThisTuesday,January15,wewillhold

    aNewParentCoffeeMorning.Thiswillbeachance for

    newparentstomeetandbe introducedtosomeofthe

    key people, in addion to your class teachers and

    teaching assistants, in the ES. It is our firm belief that

    maintaining a healthy and ongoing dialogue between

    homeandschoolisacricalpartofachildslearningat

    ISM.

    TCKs ThirdCultureKids

    Formany of us in the ISM community,we are in the

    unique situaon of raising children in mulcultural

    households,oroutsideofthe passportcultureoftheir

    parents. The term ThirdCultureKids (TCKs)hasbeen

    coinedtodescribetheexperienceofchildrenwhospendsome or all of their formave years growing up in a

    culture other than that of their parents. While this

    experience isgrowing increasinglycommonthere issll

    concernabouthowitwillimpactchildren,parcularlyin

    termsof feelingsof rootlessnessandgrief that comes

    fromloss.Inanaempttoshedlightonthebenefitsand

    challengespresentedbythisexperience,theCounseling

    Department conducts a series of informaonal

    workshops for parents. The nextworkshop will be

    heldonJanuary22intheLileTheaterfrom9amto

    11am,andisappropriateforparentswithchildrenat

    all levels, Preschool through Grade 12. In this

    session,parentswillhearfromagroupofMiddleand

    HighSchoolstudents,aswellasseveraladultsinthe

    community who grew up as TCKs. We highly

    recommend this discussion and invite all parents

    acrosstheschooltoaend.

    Access and parking within the campus are important security

    andsafetyissues. ForthewellbeingofallmembersoftheISM

    community,thoseenteringtheschoolcampusarerequestedto

    followthe

    procedures

    outlined

    below.

    VehicularAccess

    Duringdropoffandpickup mes,vehiclesmayenter through

    Gates2and3. ThoseenteringthroughGate2shouldproceedto

    thedropoffareaand,oncethestudenthasalightedorboarded,

    they should exit viaGate 1. Those vehicles entering through

    Gate 3must turn into the covered parking area and use the

    designateddropoffareas. AllvehiclesmustexitthroughGate1.

    Alternavely,vehiclesenteringthroughGate3maypark inthe

    covered car park. The spaces reserved for parentdriven cars

    should only be used by those vehicles which are driven by

    parentsthemselves. Vehiclesinwhichparentsaretraveling,but

    which are driven by a driver, should not use these spaces.Rather,theyshouldparkelsewhereinthecoveredparkormake

    useoftheoutsidespacesnexttothepowercenter.

    Pleasenote thatGate2mayonlybeusedbymembersof the

    ISM community in possession of a valid ISM ID and vehicles

    displayingavalidISMvehiclescker.

    Family/company drivers should not remainwithin school once

    theyhavedeliveredastudent. Theyshouldexittheschooland

    returnnosoonerthan1:45intheaernoonforpickup.

    VisitorstoISMmayonlyenterthroughGate3. Thereisanarea

    forshortstayvisitorsparkingnearGate1.

    ThePedestrianGate

    Locaon

    Thepedestriangate is located in theperimeter fencemidway

    betweenGate1andGate2. Thereisapavedareabetweenthe

    roadandtheperimeterfence,allowingeasyaccesstothegate.

    The pedestrian gate is solely for theentry ofmembersof the

    ISMCommunityatthebeginningoftheschoolday. Itwillonly

    beopenbetween7:00and7:45(8:00to8:45onWednesdays).

    Duetoparkingrestriconsandintheinterestsofsecurityitwill

    notbeopenintheaernoonforpickups. Duringthe meit is

    open, itwillbeunder the supervisionofmembers of the ISM

    GuardForce.

    DropoffProcedure

    Drivers should stop adjacent to the paved area and students

    should alight from the right side of their vehicle. The driver

    should then move off, clearing the space for other vehicles

    droppingoffstudents. Undernocircumstancesshouldastudent

    bedroppedofffromtheoutside lane. This isdangerousasthe

    studentwouldneedtowalkacrossthefrontofanothervehicle.

    Drivers are reminded that traffic regulaons forbidparking on

    the roads around ISM. Therefore, vehicles should only be

    stopping for the brief ne it takes for a student to alight.

    Driversmustnotwaitforanybodytoreturntothevehicle.

    CarSckers

    Thecarsckersfortheschoolyear2012/13areavailablefromthesecurityoffice.

    Each ISM family will be issued one vehicle scker free of

    charge. Any addional sckers will be issued following

    paymentofPhp100.00tothecashiersoffice.

    Inordertofacilitatetheeasyrecognionofauthorizedcarsat

    thegates,thesckersshouldbeaffixedtothetoprightcorner

    of thewindshield. Further to this,old ISM sckers issued in

    previousyearsshouldberemoved.

    IDCards

    IDcardsshouldbewornatall meswhileoncampus. Ifyou

    havenotbeenissuedanIDcard,oryouhavelostit,youshouldobtainoneby vising the securityofficeand compleng the

    appropriateapplicaonform.

    Vehiclechecks

    Thepracceof inspecngvehicleswill connue. Duringoff

    peakhoursallvehicleswillbecheckedbeforetheyareallowed

    toenterthecampus. Duringpeakhours(dropoffandpickup

    mes), all vehicles without valid sckers and randomly

    selected vehicles with sckers will be asked to undergo an

    examinaon.

    Whetheranexaminaon isconductedornot, it is important

    thatthe

    security

    sta

    ffatthe

    gates

    are

    able

    toiden

    fytheoccupantsofvehiclesenteringthecampus;thereforeIDsmust

    be clearlydisplayed. Vehicleswith ntedwindowsmust roll

    down windows to allow a clear view of the interior of the

    vehicle.

    Drivers,HelpersandBodyguards

    Drivers, helpers and bodyguards should not be waing on

    campus for students throughout the school day. Aer

    droppingoffstudentstheyshouldexittheschoolgroundsand

    notreturnmorethan30minutesbeforedismissal me. Those

    who repeatedly fail to complywith the regulaonwill have

    theiraccessprivilegesuspended.

    Only those vehicles carrying parents or other people withbusinesswithin the schoolwill be allowed to return to the

    campusbefore1:45p.m.

    Therearedesignatedareasforunaccompanieddrivers,yayas,

    helpersandsecurityescortstowaitforparentsandstudents.

    Unlessspecificallyauthorized,theymaynotenteranyother

    area.Intheinterestofsecurity,andtopreventcongesonat

    thepedestrianentrancestothecoveredparkingarea,parents

    are requested to emphasize to their employees the

    importance of cooperang with the security staff and

    remainingintheappropriateareas.

    TerminaonofEmployment

    In the event of the terminaon of service of a family

    employee, parents are asked to secure the former

    employees ISM IDcardandreturn ittotheSecurityoffice.

    Ifthisisnotpossible,itisimportanttattheSecurityOfficeis

    sllinformedofthechangeofcircumstances.

    Finally, I would like to thank all members of the ISM

    communityfortheircooperaoninhelpingusmaintainISM

    asasafeandsecureenvironmentforourchildren.

    Firearms

    Allmembersofthe ISMcommunityareremindedthat it is

    strictly forbidden for firearms to be brought onto the

    campus. This includes concealed weapons carried by

    bodyguardsforcloseprotecon.Anypersonarrivingatthe

    school with a firearm should inform the gate guard and

    arrangementswillbemadefortheweapontobesafelyand

    securelystoredduringthevisitorsstay.

    Securitystaffdirecons

    Oursecurityteamisendeavoringtomaketheschoolassafe

    and secureanenvironmentaspossible forallmembersof

    ourcommunity.Weasthateverybodycooperatewithusinthis important task. In parcular, all those entering our

    campusarerequestedtocomplywithanydirecongivento

    them bymembers of our guard force. In the event that

    anyone is unclear as to the purpose of such instrucons

    DearISMParents,

    Weareverypleasedonceagaintoofferanexcingcareer

    discoveryfocusedprogramdevelopedbytheHSGuidanceDepartmentincooperaonwiththeHSAdministraon:

    Asweallknowwell,highschoolforstudentsis(amongmany

    things)a meofselfdiscovery.Itisa mewhereourstudents

    begintobeeracknowledgetheiraptudes/likes,wheretheyhone

    theirstrengthsandwheretheybegintosortthroughthatrather

    complicatedmapknownastheireducaonalandfuturecareer

    path.Unfortunately,itisoenamapwithgapsbetweenwhatthey

    learnintheiracademicclassroomsandtherealworldtheir

    teachersareworkingtopreparethemfor.

    Inshort,wehopetohelpbridgethatgapforsomeofourHS

    studentsthroughafivedaysummerinternship(June10th14th,2012)withvariouscompaniesintheMetroManilaarea.This

    istheweekrightaerourschoolyearfinishes.

    Lastyearwewereveryfortunatetoplaceover120ISMhighschoolstudentswithabout30companies(includingAlaskaMilk,

    AsianDevelopmentBank(ADB),FedEx,Hya HotelandCasino,andMakaMedicalCenterjusttonameafew)intheMetro

    Manilaarea.Demandforthisprogramhasincreasedeachyearandweexpectthattoconnue.However,inordertokeeppace

    withstudentinterest,weneedaddionalreputablecompaniesfromavarietyofindustriestoformpartnershipswithusand

    takepart.

    Asparentsofourdedicatedandmovatedstudents,youmayown,beemployedby,orknowofacompanyinterestedin

    supporngthisveryworthwhileendeavor.WeaskforyoursupportinhelpingusdeveloppotenalCareerExperience
