with added features, such as: data storage;automated tests and results (internal calcu-lations of DAR, PI, DD and other factors);PC Control; and report compliant software. Our Ground Tester line finds its roots in

the early 1930s. A null balance gal-vanometer, a decade resistance box and aDC power source combined to make oneof the first ground testers on the market.Over 20 years ago, AEMC revolutionizedthe ground testing market by offeringclamp-on ground resistance testers, elim-inating the need to disconnect the systemto test it and eliminating the need for aux-iliary rods to do the test. Several genera-tions of improvements and additionalfeatures has strengthened AEMC’s posi-tion as the industry standard and leader inclamp-on ground resistance testers. Weagain led the way in fall-of-potentialground testing with the introduction of anautomatic tester in 2006 that automaticallylocked onto the optimum frequency to testat and calculated all test results for soil re-sistivity, ground resistance earth couplingand bond resistance, as well as, stored thetest data and generated computer reportsincluding fall-of-potential plots. Our lat-est introduction, a tower test system, againis an innovative design providing the abil-ity to test tower grounding systems without de-energizing them or removing theoverhead ground conductor, saving con-siderable time and money and improvingoperator safety.AEMC’s line of current probes has long

been the standard for Power Quality analy-sis with the world leaders in power qualityinstruments standardizing on these probes

for their current measurement source. Wealso manufacture and sell a wide variety ofPower and Power Quality measuring in-struments ranging from clamp-on meters tosingle and three-phase power quality ana-lyzers and digital power meters.

AEMC’S DataView® software designedto configure instruments, run tests, down-load and store results and generate final re-ports was added to the product offering inlate 1990s. Today DataView® is compatiblewith our Megohmmeters, Ground Resis-tance Testers, Micro-Ohmmeters, PowerQuality Analyzers, Data Loggers and multi-meters, thus offering the user a standard forinterface and control to all it’s productseliminating the need to learn new softwareevery time.In addition to its product offering AEMC

offers a one day accredited course in groundresistance testing, as well as courses in in-sulation resistance testing and power qualityanalysis. The Ground Resistance Testing seminar

is designed to give the attendee all the in-formation needed to understand proper siz-ing and testing of grounding systems.Through a combination of classroom in-struction and hands-on demonstrations, theywill learn the various types of ground resis-tance tests, the proper application for eachtest and how to correctly operate the equip-ment used in conducting these tests. In ad-dition, the student will have all theinformation to conduct ground resistancetesting correctly and efficiently, savingthem substantial time and money in the fu-ture. The Insulation Resistance Testing semi-

nar is designed to provide a thoroughknowledge and understanding of all aspectsof insulation resistance testing, as well as,the use of equipment required to performthese tests.

The old saying, “necessity is themother of all inventions” holds truefor Conduit Repair Systems, Inc.

Our split conduit products were originallydesigned and developed by a cable TVtechnician and his father in-law that workedas an engineer. The technician found thathe needed a repair product that truly re-stored damaged PVC pipe to its originalstate. The technician did some research andfound that what he needed didn’t exist atthe time. The two men then developed ourpatented snap together split conduit prod-ucts. Since the early days of the company, many additional applications for the prod-ucts have since been discovered includingenclosing exposed cables, relocating aeriallines to underground, enclosing cables onbridges, protecting cables on telephonepoles, enclosing fiber optics, and relocatingcables along roads.

Conduit Repair Systems, Inc. formallybegan business operations in 1995 andhas seen exponential growth ever since. Our company is headquartered in St.George, Utah, which is located about100 miles North East of Las Vegas,Nevada along Interstate 15. The com-pany chose St. George because of itsreputation as the “Palm Springs” ofUtah. The warm weather, the world-class golf courses, combined with a veryqualified work force made the selectionto locate in St. George very easy. by them were given the name Megger. OnMay 25, 1903, the company registered theword Megger as trademark number 254820in the UK. It has since been registered inalmost every country. The exact date the word Megger was

first used is not known, but it is believedVignoles devised it. Some sources suggestthat it is a contraction of the wordsMEGohm and metER, with the additionof a G, while others suggest that the orig-

inal words were MEGohm and testER. Ei-ther way, the result is one of thebest-known and respected trademarks inthe electrical industry worldwide. On Washington’s birthday in 1895, while

Evershed and Vignoles was being set up inEngland, James G. Biddle started his ownbusiness in Philadelphia. He acted as a man-ufacturers agent, arranging to import andsell scientific and electrical equipment madeby overseas manufacturers.

In 1910, Dr. Rowland, Electrical De-partment head at Philadelphia’s Drexel In-stitute told Biddle about a device formeasuring insulation resistance that wasmanufactured in England by Evershed &Vignoles, and that this company was, withthe aid of the British Consul in Philadel-phia, looking for US representation.Biddle traveled to England and, with a

handshake, concluded a deal with Evershed& Vignoles, which made his company the

sole distributor in the US forall Evershed & Vignoles testequipment, which includedMegger insulation testers, earth testers and Ducter low-resistance ohmmeters.Initially, Biddle ordered

five Megger insulationtesters, which he sent out onconsignment to his close en-gineering acquaintances andpublic utility companies.Four out of five recipients de-cided to buy the instrumentthey had been sent. The suc-cess of the products helpedBiddle to expand his opera-

tions. In 1936, the business was incorpo-rated as the James G. Biddle Company.Biddle retired in 1940, and in 1945 was

appointed Chairman of the Board. DuringWorld War II, because of the difficulty ofobtaining equipment from England, Bid-dle started its own manufacturing opera-tion for Megger insulation testers in theUS.After several ownership changes, Ever-

shed and Vignoles joined forces withAVO Limited, the company that devel-oped the world’s first multimeter, to formMegger Instruments. In 1991, Biddle andMegger, along with Multi-Amp, came to-gether to form the organization thenknown as AVO Megger Instruments. Today, the organization is known as

Megger Group Limited. With develop-ment and manufacturing facilities in theUS, the UK and Sweden it is, and has beenfor more than 100 years, a world leader inthe electrical test equipment field. The Megger name is so well known that

it is incorrectly used as a verb that means“to perform an insulation test.” Megger re-mains a registered trademark and MeggerGroup rigorously defends and takes allnecessary steps to address improper usagethat come to its attention.

For over a century, Megger hasbeen synonymous with quality andreliability in portable electrical test

equipment. But where did the famous Meg-ger name, a guarded trademark of MeggerGroup Limited, come from?Back in 1888, electric

lighting was growing in pop-ularity. Sidney Evershed wasworking for Goolden &Trotter, a company with adepartment that specializedin domestic installations. Toverify the safety of those in-stallations, a method of test-ing insulation was needed. At that time, insulation re-sistance could only be mea-sured in a laboratory, and themeasurements were carriedout at low voltages, typicallyaround 2 V.Evershed knew from re-

search that testing at such low voltages gaveunsatisfactory results, and to ensure thesafety of an installation, it was essential totest the insulation at its working voltage orhigher. He also knew that the laboratorytechniques for measuring insulation resis-tance were unsuitable for use on site. His response was to develop the first di-

rect-reading ohmmeter, which comprised asmall permanent magnet suspended at thecenter of, and controlled by two coils atright angles to each other. One coil wasconnected directly to the voltage source en-ergizing the ohmmeter; the other was con-nected to the same voltage source via theinsulation under test. This meant that theresults obtained were independent of thevoltage.Evershed energized his ohmmeter with

a hand-cranked generator, similar to thetype in use at the time for ringing tele-phones. The instrument proved so success-ful that Evershed patented it, and Goolden& Trotter started to manufacture and marketit in 1889. In 1895, Sidney Evershed and Ernest Vi-

gnoles, another Goolden & Trotter director, purchased the company’s instrument de-partment and set it up as Evershed & Vig-noles Limited. The insulation testers made

company was bought by two of his long-time employees, John Hannasch andKevin Eagan. They quickly expanded thecompany by opening a Sales Office andWarehouse in New Hampshire as well as awarehouse in Texas. They opened a ware-house in Tempe, AZ in January of 2012 aswell as an additional Minnesota warehousein Burnsville, MN in December. Northwest Lighting SystemsCo.was created in 1991 in GoldenValley, MN by James D. Miller.

Jim was a Chicago Lighting Rep who in-vested in a small HID Ballast Manufactur-ing Co. He was searching for a means tobreak into the aftermarket for HID BallastReplacement Kits and was frustrated by thetraditional Electrical Distributor Networkthat was dominated by the major manufac-turers. He saw how successful the “Directto Contractor” model was for some fixturemanufacturers. Why not give it a try withcomponents? Thus, Northwest Lightingwas born. For 21 years, Northwest Lighting has

provided HID Ballast Replacement Kitsdirectly to contractors, property managersdistributors and select national accounts atsignificant saving over the local electricalsupply house. Our large stock of both highand low volume models results in 95% ofall orders shipping the same day. Con-tractors have come to realize that waitingfor their local distributor to get a 480v bal-last or a F-Can ballast in from the factorymakes no sense when Northwest Lightinghas it in stock at a better price. In fact,

needed a complete replacement UPS rightaway. By 7 a.m. Friday, a new 9900B sys-tem was leaving the Mitsubishi plant nearPittsburgh, with two drivers in the truckcab. Nineteen hours later, the UPS was inDallas. And less than 48 hours afterLeonard made his call, ViaWest had theunit unloaded, installed, tested, and on-line.“It’s amazing enough that the GM of a ma-jor manufacturer would be available at allhours on his cell phone,” says Leonard.“But that he’d drop everything while hewas at a conference, take a machine out ofinventory, and put it on a truck with nomore than a verbal agreement is an extra-ordinary example of service. We have alot of very good suppliers, but I can’t thinkof any other who would have made the de-cision so quickly and expedited it so thor-oughly. Nobody else would have beeneven close. The moment I decided we hadto replace the machine, there was no ques-tion that we’d call Mitsubishi.”

Oklahoma City in May 2009. Ini-tially, working with local cus-
